Red was the 'superboss' of Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal. To battle him, you'd need to defeat all of the 8 gyms of Kanto, then talk to Professor Oak, who would give you permission to enter a place called Mt. Silver. In the depths of Mt. Silver, you'll meet Red, who greets you by.. being silent.

In terms of levels, he has the strongest pokemon in the game, and his pokemon party is quite diverse, so you'd need a strong, well balanced team to generally defeat him. For you, how tough was Red? Do you remember your strategy of beating him? Any thoughts? You can share them here!

He's very beatable if your team is at least Lv 55 - 60 and balanced. Honestly I think I found traversing Mt Silver more of an ordeal than the battle itself.

Also, I legit didn't realise until I watched a YouTube video about it recently, but the Red you battle is the same Red you played as in Pokemon Yellow; Pikachu as the starter, and the rest are Pokemon you collect/meet on your journey through Kanto. I cannot believe it took me until all this time to notice..

Red was easy enough to beat in HG/SS imo since the post-game there had more training opportunities thanks to Gym Leader rematches, but he was a nightmare to beat in G/S/C given the awful leveling curve in those games. Not to mention that the movesets for most Pokemon back then were pretty basic and TMs were still one-use only (plus the good TMs were pretty rare), so having a team with powerful and diverse moves that would have the advantage against Red's team wasn't exactly simple.
