I noticed that they redesigned every character that has had a remake so far. I prefer classic Gold and new Red (the one with the hoodie and the one with the hemicircle hat) and I find it somewhat annoying that they changed Gold's look ( Crystal/Lyra transition was OK, somewhat) because he looked epic until they gave him that doll collar and complicated look. What do you think?

They wont make any dramatic changes, maybe some hairstyle/colour alterations and some clothing differences but that's pretty much it, they will maintain all the characteristics etc.

I actually liked the changes, but yeah, some of it's known characteristics weren't changed. :') .. Except for Lyra .. unfortunately..

Yeah, Crystal was my first game, i still miss the classic but WHY DID THEY CHANGE GOLD? He was perfect until they changed him.

Because Ken Sugimori's an artist. Anyone who designs and draws characters for a living isn't going to be content to take someone you drew nearly ten years ago and draw them the exact same way when you come to re-visit the game. Especially with characters in Pokémon who are supposed to be everyday kids it makes sense to take another look at their design from today's point of view.

Not to mention, Ken's drawing style has changed a lot since 1999.

Honestly, May's redesign from R/S to Emerald (not even the remake) was horrendous. I actually preferred R/S over Emerald because of that. Both R/S trainers would benefit from a major overhaul in any remake.

As for the redesign for the currently made remakes, I don't know or care since (a) only the guys had been redesigned; the girls were newly introduced designs, and (b) I don't play as the guys in Pokemon game. Not until they redesign one in a remake to wear a suit, top hat, and monocle.

I liked Red's FR LG design! It made him look way cooler than his Ken Sugimori R/B/Y artwork which looked like Ash (No offense). Green's first design was okay but bad. I'm glad that they reintroduced her into Leaf. The funny thing with Blue was that I liked his first design better than his FR LG design. He looked more better. Gold's reintroduced design was okay but I prefer the crystal design of him. I wonder how they will reintroduce May & Brendan.

OK, as far as Blue's changes over the generations, the changes he got in Generation III were very appealing to me, as he looked just about identical to Gary in the anime. But, when he appeared in HG/SS, his changes just don't really appeal to me; I like his FR/LG design the best.

With Red, all of his changes over the generations have been appealing, and his HG/SS sprite is my favorite.

With Ethan, his G/S/C design is the best. I don't like his changes when it came to HG/SS.

It still would've been nice if they were actually able to implement Green into the original games because everyone has talk about how Red is a legend, without there really being a female counterpart to say it to, although I agree that Leaf turned out to be a nice design.

I also dislike how Silver turned out a little nicer in the remakes and how he almost looked like a male version of Mars from DPPt.

Other than that, I don't have too many complaints about other characters. Lyra isn't too bad, it's just I think they could have at least based her more off of Kris' look.

I'd say so as well. I think also that Gold should have kept classic look. HASN'T ANYONE NOTICED SILVER'S REDESIGN?

Less of a square face, baggy clothes trimmed down. That's pretty much a prime example of how Sugimori's style has changed.

For the artwork, that is. What about the in-game sprites? I don't care about really anything except the character having an edge over the other characters. Brendan: Bandanna thingy. Gold: Hair sticking out of hat (In the new design this is not as noticeable which is why I don't like it) Red: Really, kind of a "classic" look for the original, and a "memorable" look for the newer one. Lucas: Three words: EPIC. DUCKBILL. CAP.
    Hilbert: Weird hair (lolz)

I actually like the remake (even Gold), but I think that is just me.

May and Brendan would really benefit from the remakes if ever.
Nah, it's not just you. I really like the redesigns, too. I actually like Lyra a lot. I can't wait to see if May and Brenden will receive similar treatment.

No mention of gym leaders? this makes me sad actually. Since most of their redesign perfectly suit their character.
Well, maybe not all of them but its still a good example of how redesign should be.
I agree though that Kris deserve the place more than Kotone. Kris was the first female player character that officially introduced, why would they need to create a whole new character? Market demand I suppose. If I remember correctly, back in the 2010 moeness was in hype in Japan. Because Kris isn't moe enough to begin with, they need to replace her with brand new character.
    That's my theory.

Kris doesn't exist in Gold and Silver. HG/SS are remakes of those games so there's really nothing to stop them from designing a new player character that they feel fits the games better than Kris did, especially because there's probably a lot more people who played Gold and Silver who either don't know who Kris is, or don't remember her.

That argument doesn't really work for me since the whole "Mikuni chasing Suicune" is still happen in the game. If its really only a remake of Gold/Silver, why would Mikuni Chasing Suicune still happen? That's originally only happened in Crystal (CMIIW).
I just don't like when they thrown up character like that.
