HeartGold hack: Refined Gold Overhaul [COMPLETE]

The Changelog doesn't say what item Mew is holding and what the heck is ??? about? how do you even know if you've triggered it?
 
I got a weird bug on the pokedex, suddenly the seen and the caght are 001 and i can only navigate on the pokedex in A to Z mode.

I on Desmume and i used pkhex to edit pokemons and items, but nothing related to pokedex.
Edit: I edit my ID number too.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug on your end sorry I don't know what that is but it looks like you somehow corrupted the dex data of the save file or something???

Oh, you will know when you've triggered it. It's not relevant to anything at all though, it's just an easter egg. The Furret House is more important.
Mew is holding a Lum Berry I think?

And as a friendly request (if I may), I think it would be cool to somehow allow us to change the Trainer Battle Music at the Battle Frontier facilities to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Trainer Battle, I mean HG/SS Trainer Battle Theme is amazing too, but I just think D/P/P battle theme has A LOT more tension and it fits the Battle Frontier so nicely, so letting us pick which Battle Theme we want to hear for the entire grind would be a welcome addition.

It would only be that particular track really, nothing from Hoenn, Kalos, Galar, no man just that good old classic D/P/P track, to keep things simple, nice and smooth.

So this is basically impossible for me to personally do, as they use different instruments that do not exist in HGSS. You may notice that the facility themes are slightly different between HG and Plat as a result. It'd be cool to add in if I really felt like it, but I'm not well-versed enough to try and add more instruments.

Hello! First off, I'm ecstatic that this hack made it here, I've been following it since it started out as Refined Gold on RHDN and it's been my top favorite since day 1 ❤️

I wanted to ask if both patches in the zip file are for Overhaul? I didn't see one for the Coarse version
 
Technically technically they're both Refined Gold it's just one is Refined Gold Overhaul and one is Refined Gold Coarse in this paper I will-

Scratching my head bald over the Goldenrod Game Corner. I'm dead sure I used an US rom and I'm seeing the international gentleman's club with exclusively Voltorb Flip.
Is this intended??
 
Disregard, I must be turning senile. I misremembered a restored game corner from a different romhack along with the details of international laws regarding depictions of gambling in media.
 
Hello there
I downloaded the game 2 days ago so far so good also because HG was my very First Pokémon game, i picked up chikorita and defeated the First Gym leader.
However, since i play on real hardware the Red screen Is pretty tedious: Is there any fix on the way since ive see on the GitHub repository that a specific ap patch was made for version 3.2 or something.

some minor criticism - while I'm still very early into the game I don't think I'm a big fan of the dialogue additions. particularly the npc in cherrygrove that does an annoying (imo) fourth wall break and yells at the player about the skylights stuck out like a sore thumb to me. i know, humour is subjective and all that, but if this is trying to be a vanilla+ definitive edition hack then I'd prefer any additions to be more subtle and low-key, and for the game to feel like something game freak could have released. the additions seem like they're a little too in-your-face.

Mmm yeah that one's a bit jumpy, I like it but I get if it's jarring to have as part of the first impression. It is old text but *I* find it amusing haha. I think you'll find some of the later flavor text humorous and all but much more grounded.

At the end of the day this is my hack; it has some changes that are very carefully measured and placed, and some that are me bending things just for the fun of it. Whether you think this or that is the better approach, you are perfectly welcome to disagree! So long as you're having a good time with the hack overall, mission accomplished :D
 
I do definitely think that sprinkling in a little extra flavour text here and there is a good idea. that said, the original game's writing style/tone has a subtle charm that I think it's important to preserve and remain consistent to - otherwise you'd risk breaking the player's immersion. For the skylights bit, you could probably reword it so that it fits in better with the rest of the game. here's my somewhat shoddy attempt:

"The houses here all have skylights. Everyone thinks they're cool, but I'm not convinced. They leak easily, and if it hails, it's so loud I can hardly sleep!"

I'm definitely looking forward to playing more of this since the philosophy behind a lot of the changes seem like exactly what I'm looking for. While Drayano's hacks are very very good, I hesitate to call them definitive versions of those games cause I think lumping in every single national dex Pokémon takes away from the games' focus on that region's Pokémon. This seems more in the ballpark of thesmithplays' legacy series, which I'm also enjoying a lot.

Thank you very much for the advice nonetheless, very much appreciated! I would say this is closer to hacks like Chronosplit's 202 Emerald hack, or Ultra Violet; while I've given myself more leeway in specific areas, the focus is very firmly on the regional dex and overarching dynamics that the game has as is. Direction, intention, what parts to keep and what parts to discard especially in a game with such systemic flaws as HGSS is an entire discussion of its own and I'd rather have it on Discord than to clog up this thread.

I have identified the bug in question it is to do with a tool I used and the tool dev and myself are looking into it right now. It's not a gamebreaking bug (though it blocks you from getting the Diploma) and the gltiched out stuff only happens sometimes. Just save before using the Pokedex, and you can play as normal in the current version. It will be fixed within the next week in the next update.
To summarize:
- The bug is in the game's side, not the save's side.
- Your save will work in the next update.
- Nothing I know of will be lost by continuing to play as it is now.
- Just save before looking at the Pokedex until v4.0.3 is out.
