Alright, I've updated the main post from last year, so all we should have to do is stick in a bit of CSS and we'll be good to go. And I've just stuck some placeholder emblems in the layout until I come up with some real ones, but I'll be sure to run them by you to see if you like them.

Hey there PokéCommunity, welcome to the 4th annual retro gaming event here at our 11th Get-Together, hosted once again by Brendino and Nathan! This year, we've got three exciting games for you to participate in: Snake, Arkanoid and Asteroids- three favorites from the 70s and 80s, right to today!​

How do I play the games?

It's easy! All you have to do is click on the picture of the game you want to play at the top of this post, and you should be sent directly to the game. If that doesn't work for you, click here to play Snake, click here for Arkanoid, or click here for Asteroids!


It says game over. How do I submit my score?

To submit your scores, we ask that you take a screenshot of the game once you're finished. To do this, either hit the print screen button on PC, or press Command+Shift+3 if you're on a Mac. After you've done this, upload your screenshot (sites like TinyPic work well), and include this in your post alongside your username and score.

NOTE: We ask that you include all of your scores in one post to keep the thread tidy. If you wish to update your score(s), please just edit your original post, as any subsequent entries won't be recorded.


What if I don't want to play all three of the games?

If you'd rather just play one or two of the games, go right ahead! We added multiple options in the hopes that there's something for everyone, and so that it'd be easier to participate in.


What mode should I be playing Snake on?

Since the game gives you three options, we've decided to go right down the middle with the "Worm" difficulty. Feel free to practice on "Slug" if you'd like, but we'll only be accepting scores from the "Worm" difficulty.


How long do I have to enter the event?

If you're reading this right now, the event has already started! The Get-Together ends on July xxth at 11:59 EDT, and we'll be accepting entries until then. Don't wait until the last minute to post or update your scores though, or you may not be eligible for one of our prizes (which we'll talk about below).


What if my question wasn't answered here?

If you're still confused about something, feel free to either post your question here, or send a VM to Brendino or Nathan so we can help you out.

For finishing in the top three of any of our games, you'll receive one of the special emblems seen below. If you don't manage to finish as a top-scorer in either game, don't worry- everyone will receive a participation emblem for their efforts. Even if you don't think you can win, it doesn't hurt to give it a go and pick up a fancy emblem just for trying!

That layout's looking pretty great! There's a bit too much spacing, though; one thing you could try is removing those line-breaks between questions and their answers. Aside from that, everything else is pretty easy on the eye.

How does this look? Not a lot of strain on the eyes I hope.

Looks really nice! It needs to be centered, though, so to do that, change your margin element from "6%" to "auto," and you should be all set. Try doing the same for all headings, such as "GT11 Gaming Event," "Rules and F.A.Q," and so on; add "margin: auto;" throughout end of their code.

I just tried playing around with the CSS myself and screwed up, so I'll leave that to you, haha. I do like how it looks though, but maybe we should go with a slightly updated background (perhaps this one), since as it stands, it's a little hard to see your name in the post. We could also use a slightly darker version (like here or here) for the headers.

Looks pretty good to me! Of course, if anyone else has suggestions they can let us know, but I'd be happy with that as our main post.

 

[Oryx]

One thing that might be important - the link colors, when you don't color them yourselves, look like the link color from the theme. I use a dark theme and the links are white and it's kind of hard to read. If you put a color tag inside the url tag it gets rid of the link color and replaces it with the color you want, and that might be a better choice.

It's not impossible to read though and that might be a pain so up to you! :)

Yeah, link color definitely needs some replacement. One more thing you guys should probably do is perhaps lighten up the border color a little bit? Not that your background is brighter, the current one doesn't exactly seem to go along with your flow. Instead of black, try #cccccc, and it should be all good, hopefully.

I gave those suggestions a shot- let me know if it's any better. Like I've said in the past, I probably couldn't code my way out of a wet paper bag, so hopefully everything looks okay.

Alright, I don't see any objections to the CSS updates, so I'll assume everyone's happy with that.

I gave the emblems a shot, and think they turned out alright. I was having some issues with Photoshop, so I just decided to go the MS Paint route and do them pixel by pixel, while keeping them somewhat similar to last year's set. I like the simplicity of these ones, but if you'd prefer more colorful ones, let me know.
