Rise of A Hero: Dawn of A New Age

    Introduction

To be short and to the point, RoaH: DoaNA is my first RPG Maker game I been putting time into. It is being made with RPG Maker XP (the Japanese "Postality Knights" one, so don't go about trying to edit my games if you have the English editon released by Enterbrain before you end up screwing yours up).

    Story

With the start of a new evil, marks the legacy of a new hero...

Before the world learned about magic and the like, there was the Pyro Cult. They were known for their love of fire and wish to burn the world down to a crisp. For years this cult stayed secret from society, until recently. They have promised the world with a cure for the chaos that torments it. All the world had to give them was knowledge about magic (since the cult didn't know the first thing about magic for around twenty years due to staying away from society). We were fooled into believing it. Now we pay the price. With their newfound power, they're raiding the towns one by one, conquering them, destroying them, whatever you can think of. Most areas are unaware of this, and are destroyed quickly. They're searching for beings called "Elementals." Unfortunately, we don't know the first thing about these creatures, and the Pyro Cult refuses to listen...

    Characters

    Yuki
    Age: 19
    Gender: Male
    Profession: Unemployed

Your average run-of-the-mill hero. Yuki was training to become a master swordsman. Due to this, he only has a wooden sword and bronze armor at first. Yuki managed to learn one healing spell when his foster mother tried to make him a cleric instead of a swordsman. His foster mother and his parents abandoned him, saying that one day the village will be doomed and one of the newer generation must help save them... A bit annoying at first also.

    Luka
    Age: 21
    Gender: Male
    Profession: Assassain

Luka is an assassain who was hired to take out Yuki as a "test of skill." Specialized with swords as well, she also manages to manipulate light and darkness. She eventually joins sides with Yuki.

    Eiji
    Age: 23
    Gender: Male
    Profession: Farmer

Eiji is obviously a farmer. He tries to provide Yuki with a home long as Yuki doesn't attack him and helps with defending the estate when Yuki's there.

    Sakura
    Age: 22
    Gender: Female
    Profession: Thief

Sakura is a thief who helps Eiji get his crops to a city to sell them. She's wary of Yuki at first since she and Eiji got mauled by a pack of wild Fire Hounds by someone who was stupid enough to lead them to the Ezo-Fi Estate.

    Ezo-Fi
    Age: 30
    Gender: Male
    Profession: Mage

Ezo-Fi is one of the five people who helped defend King Lorimore from an unwanted death ten years ago. He ran off from his estate, leaving Sakura and Eiji to care for themselves when they were only about 14 years old, abandoned, and looking for work.

    King Lorimore
    Age: 39
    Gender: Male
    Profession: King

King Lorimore is a fool who'll behead you if you say anything negative and his guards or himself hear it. He's selfish, and knows a fine bit of magic himself. Ezo-Fi and the other four people were actually forced to defend him, or face death. The end of Lorimore's reign is something many people hope for, because his rules are quite strict in the castle town of Seracruz.

    Fire Elemental
    Age: ???
    Gender: Female
    Profession: ???

Short-tempered and dangerious, she'll burn you to a crisp if you get on her bad side. Not much is known about her other than she has total control over most fire spells.

    Water Elemental
    Age: ???
    Gender: Female
    Profession: ???

Wise and gentle. This elemental can easily cause flash floods to douse flames at her own will. Due to this the Pyro Cult has an extreme hatred of this elemental.

    Earth Elemental
    Age: ???
    Gender: Female
    Profession: ???

This elemental is full of energy and loves to spar. With full control of nature and ground, she can cause earthquakes and can summon a variety of creatures to protect her or attack her foes.

    Wind Elemental
    Age: ???
    Gender: Female
    Profession: ???

The fourth elemental, and the most mysterious. Only the other elementals know anything about her.

    Time Elemental

    Age: ???
    Gender: ???
    Profession: ???

This elemental isn't exactly a person. It's a crystal which contains unlimited power. It manages all of time, and can revert time incase of a disaster. Said to be placed by the first elemental itself incase of a massive disaster as a failsafe switch. Locked in the deepest sections of the Cave of Brave, though no one was able to get down there... Yet...

    Pyro Cult

Like their name implies, they have a facination with fire. The cult specialize in magic now, and wish to burn the world to a crisp. They're searching for the elementals, which they say have a "untainted power" yet to be unlocked.

    Fire Hounds

Captured and raised by people, they're essentially the dogs of this world. Very hard to tame, and occasionally will wander off. Often they'll gain powers due to being in a new region. For example, a Fire Hound wandering around the ocean will gain water -esque powers and dark blue fur, but will be weaker. Rumors have it that they're the only species that managed to get down to the Time Elemental, and thus, were granted this ability to gain powers based on the enviornment by an entity of the like. This rumor started since recently a rare breed of the hounds have been found that can slow down time and speed it up.

    The Necromancers

A group of people who are obviously necromancers. They'll create zombies and such to guard their most important possessions, having no regard for spirits and the like. Also able to use darkness spells, they've been known to input so much darkness into a corpse that it actually becomes immune to light. They're searching for the Time Elemental to create creatures which will enable them to conquer the world.

    Locations

    Cave of The Brave
A system of caves that go to the deepest parts of Earth. Once a special cave that only the most noble had access to, now more and more entrances are appearing, allowing anyone these days to enter it, including monsters and demons. Several sections are blocked off until you manage to have a special badge. The Time Elemental is at the deepest and most dangerious section of the cave, where it's said to actually be an alternate reality.

    Seracruz

The capital city of the region the game takes place in. King Lorimore resides here, and sees fit that he recruits people every day for his military. Due to this, he made a small deal with the Pyro Cult to attack the town. The citizens were worried of their safety, and had their finest magician craft a distortion in time. This distortion is actually a dungeon where newcomers with a weapon are thrown into. If the newcomer survives and isn't wounded much, he's deemed as someone with a pure soul. If not, he or she is deemed as someone with a tainted soul, and is thrown into the castle's dungeon until arrangements are made to escort him out.

    Yatogi Village

A desert town which also tests the soul of people, but due to Kobolds (or Sand Pirates as some call them) attacking the town often, they're wary of just about anyone with a weapon. Guards are at the main entrance, and attack anyone with a weapon. Then he or she is thrown into a dungeon, and is later on tossed into a room called a Test of Purification. If his soul is pure, nothing happens. If it's tainted, a spirit comes and attacks. Works 9 out of 10 times.

    Ezo-Fi Estate

The estate the great mage Ezo-Fi lived in. Before he left, it was a luxorious manor. Now, the manor disappeared one day for a strange reason, and inplace, is a small area where there are three houses. Eiji and Sakura live there, and make their living by growing crops (Eiji) and stealing (Sakura).

    Features:

    - New songs in your journey.

    - Instead of earning skills as you level up, buy them or earn them from quests!

    - A RTAB (Real-Time Active Battle) which requires you to not only think fast, but intercept your opponent before it can strike!

    - Some characters will have new battlers, instead of their RTP counterparts.

    - Complete side quests to recruit new party members. Due to this, some towns will allow you to take out and insert party members at an Inn or the like.

    - Forget about exact HP and exact SP. The bars were all you ever need, and it's all you have in the intense (or un-intense) battles!

Here we see part of a beach in an editor.

Part of the Cave of the Brave in editor. It is said that the ladder leads to a hot spring with one of the entrances to the Time Elemental. Thus people guard the cave making sure that no one misuses the spring or the entrance.

The first cultist who fights you. Unfortunately, he meets a swift demise by your wooden sword. The good thing? He drops a bronze sword.

    That's no problem Dash.

Anyways, I got a bit more of the maps done. Eventually I might release a demo that'll take about five to thirty minutes in total.

Your outside mapping is pretty good, but the cave mapping could use a little work. (I am surprised I am going to say this, but...) You need to use less diversity when mapping caves. Also, the cultist needs sharpened up.

Anyway, the stoey sounds good and you have a solid base of characters. So I wish you luck! (Also, I have RMXP Postality Knights edition :P)

Thanks for the compliment Don. I'll also keep the mapping tip in mind.

Anyways I should have a real short demo by tomorrow, or today if I get lucky.

I agree with Don Patch, the outside mapping is good, although the mountains could be a little more irregular.
Also, the battle background could use some better artwork.

    ^^

    Good game anyway,

    ~Azura.

Edit: oh, and don't mind Dash... I've the 'legal' version and support any game that is good.

I just got it ready for a short demo. Leads up to the water cave. Once you get rid of the crystal, the demo ends. The size is due to songs included within the BGM (which you don't need my permission to use for whatever reason). I'll see if I can include a version that doesn't require RPG Maker XP later.

Note: Even though I have Postality Knights RMXP, you only need the same version to see and edit the project itself.

Edit: Crap, it's messed up. For whatever reason important switches don't work.

Edit 2: I fixed the ones I noticed right away. Signs and such I know about, however they're minor at the moment and can be easily fixed.

Edit 3: Uploading the 5 minute demo. I'll update the first post with it when it's ready.

Edit 4: Removed it. Thought it'd be better if I released a demo with more maps and one boss than a quick demo that'll take five minutes to complete. The game doesn't really get into the story until like the second boss. You'll just be proving your worth to Sakura and helping Eiji until then.

Edit 5: I just got the English RMXP (due to compatibility issues between scripts and the like), so the game will be delayed for a bit (not like I announced a release date though anyways).
