Rock and Ground- types....Alike....?

    Has anyone ever thought of the Rock and Ground types the same? I sure have! Just think. The ground is rock and rock is ground. Why would they make two types so much the same? I see no difference between the two. Do you?
     
    Ground is not a literal object, and is present in the same way as dark type- Rather than the pokes being physically made of it, they instead represent aspects associated with the type. For example, hippowdon creates sandstorms, and pokes like dugtrio and sandshrew bury into the ground. In this sense, the two types are completly different.
     
    Actually rock is more of a solid, sturdy, hard and tough type but when I think of ground its more og things like sand, dirt and mud.
     
    I don't think they are the same.

    -Ground is stronger than rock

    -Rock is not weakness to ice, but grounds weakness is ice.

    Those are the differences I can think of right now... lol ^_^
     
    The same? Nope. Similar? Yeah...

    I mean, they are both based of aspects of Earth (Rocks, mud, ground) but then, you could argue that Water and Rock are the same, and so are Grass and Water...:\ Honestly, I think the reason they seem similar is due to the fact there are quite a few pokemon who share the type combination of Rock/Ground, however you could argue that Grass/Poison are similar too...:\
     
    Well considering ground is made up of small rock it could be said yes.
    But for some reason, we always classifie the small rocks differently then the big rocks.

    I suppose ground and rock could be closely related because one is the ground and one is the rocks on the ground. But, if that makes them the same- then, poison and grass would be the same. Since a great deal of the poison Pokemon are grass. And, in real life, a great deal of plants are poisonus. And, bugs and grass would be the same, too. Since bugs live on grass or on plants.

    I think they're completely different. But, like many of the other Pokemon (Grass/Poison, Bug/Grass, etc) they are closely related to one another. Which would be why in the card game they require the same energy. ;)

    The TCG connection is the best response yet IMO
     
    They're definitely similar. But not the same. A big reason a lot of people think this is because rock types are almost always dual typed with ground.

    Rock type pokemon are made out of rock, while ground types just share characteristics with the ground. Like onix is made of rock, but also lives on and in the ground. Therefore, it's rock/ground.

    Rock types almost always have high HP and defense, while that's not necessarily true with ground types.
     
    They have a lot of simmilarites like there primary colour is brown or Beige a colour like that there pokemon a primarly those colours there are a few more but i got a mental block but the differences are there attacks a quite different ground attacks usually have something to do with the ground underneath the pokemon while rock attacks use rocks but they manily use them selfs to attack moves like rollout if u dont get what im saying
     
    They are closely related but never the same. Ground attacks never hit flying types but Rock types resist flying attacks and deal super-effective hits on flying types. This is however, different in TCG. Rock types deals twice the damage on ice-types while Ground types are weak against Ice attacks. Ground types deal super-effective hits on steal types while Rock types are weak against their attacks. They are treated as similar because these two types are often seen as dual-types like Onix, for example. The rocks are solid and compact while the ground is loosely connected. It is just a matter of aspect really.
     
    Actually, i'm confused about that too. Well, rock is part of the ground..
