The Rom Hacking Newsletter is under a deep period of change

The RHN has become a part of the community and it should stay a part of it.

Recently I took it over and pushed it off a cliff it seems with quality getting many complaints so now I am counting on you the public to be good writers, good supporters, and good energy to help speed this newsletter.

I am counting on hacking veterans to pay there dues and help us out.

Review of Mitchel1's Pokemon Dark Cry: The legend of Giratina

Well most people around the Rom Hacking section with know Mitchel1. This is because of his fantastic scripting. His first hack was Pokemon: Dark Cry; which was unfortunately stolen by pirates. I first became aware of Mitchel's awesome hacking skills because of his hack Pokemon Thunder Emblem. TE was and still is a brilliant hack and I knew the TE would be hard to beat.

Straight from the off; this hack started to look like one of the best hacks ever. It has awesome graphics. Dark Cry is set in the newly discovered region of Trion. This fantastic hack is already won Hack of the week #52. The story is well set out and starts off with the hero waking up in a cave and only seeing black and white. And when he/she awakes he/she notices a couple of suspicious people standing by a dark altar. They were strange, and they were discussing a certain 'Shadow Plate'. Then the hero tries to attack the villains but the hero discovers that he/she has no Pokemon. Then a person with a large R on their shirt walks right through the hero.

This is when the hero wakes up and discovers it was all a weird dream. The hero gets up and finds he/she has woke up and late and has missed a chance to receive his/her first Pokemon. Later the hero discovers that this dream was coming true.

Well the above was the story of the hack. I think it has a very strong story. I see no flaws in it and it excites me as a story that could unfold into something quite marvelous. It's something that really wants makes me want to play it and discover all the secrets that mitchel has put into it.

It has many features that have been listed my mitchel. I believe that these features are nothing but excellent. Some of these features are: New Hero/Heroine sprites; these are Gold from Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal or Special. And Solana the female Pokemon ranger is the heroine. New and better scripts, New Professor, New region, new textbox, new music, awesome maps, Way harder and better than Pokemon Firered, Better graphics and scripts than TE, New tiles and palettes, Two rivals and new gym leaders.

I've looked through the screenshots of the hack and they are flawless. They show a brilliant title and boot screen. New intro sprites, A Torterra icon to replace the default Pikachu one at the intro and some very brilliant tiles; one thing that has me stunned are the Torn World tiles. They look better than the ones in Platinum and they are so good. Also there are some amazing battle backgrounds. There is a new text box, HP box and choice box they all look great.

The hack has a lot of support banners so if you like the sound of this hack. Go check it out in the Progressing Hacks section and put one in your signature.

There are also some amazing videos in the thread which show off some great scripts. They are the 'Dream', the grass animation, Professor Rowan's script and the Radio script and they are all fantastic.

And to round this review off; the hack is really close to an Alpha release so watch out ;).
