Someone suggested we have a forum which a Bot automatically posts anything new found on a RSS Feed it is designed to scan.

However I am highly against this idea, as I know quite a few of you are because that would only be a waste of b/w but we would need to force a already hard working mod or upper to be commited to editing the duplicate or SPAMMED posts 365/24/7.

I for one don't feel like we should impose such a burden, so I have found a hack to make it so a *page* can hold three RSS feeds (you can make more pages if needed) and has the headline and a portion of the story. This page(s) can be totally customized from top to bottom, and would be optional and would not bring an increase of SPAMMERS.

I have an attachment of what the default looks like, however when I used it on my forum it was highly customized and didn't look ANYTHING like it (it looked way better).

    vBulletin.org Link: here

I mean if anything lets have a RSS Feed where can add a personalized touch and not give our wonderful staff the burden of always having to edit it.

The problem with your idea is that it doesn't facilitate/allow for discussion of the news. It's just...there. =/

Well, you can obviously make a sub forum for it anyways and there already.

And what is more important, making it easier for the staff who would have to *always* edit posts, edit threads, lock threads, deal with spammers....

Or make a page, and if you want to have a section in Chit Chat for them I mean it isn't like there isn't a place for them already.

So, if you were going to make a subforum for the RSS feed, what's the point in installing it in order to avoid making a forum in the first place?

That really is the problem, there is no way of making comments about it without starting a new thread.

That in turn creates a copy of the original post, which clogs up the database.

If we make a subforum than people can just TALK about the news, and not have the staff delete duplicate posts the Bot will post.

I mean honestly this is by far a easier system to use and you can have a whole page totally customized for it and not have the hassle as a RSS Forum.

<< What are you talking about? My hack is a *page* it doesn't use posts, threads, etc... It is just a mere page where it is located on. An easy solution to a whole big forum

You're still ending up with duplicate news stuff.

One entry in the database for the rss feed, one for the forum post by a user.

I find it highly unlikely you are going to make a post for every single news bulletin. I mean besides, my way I still take less pressure off the staff who have to do all sorts of operations which waste b/w

Steve has plenty of extra BW.

And it would only take one or two mods, tops. The bot doesn't get all that much to post. Most days there is a tops of 2 articles =/

Greg, please talk about your idea in *your* thread. I specifically made this thread so I could tell people my idea which is by far less of a hassle.

And besides, two mods who need to do it all the time. We both know a lot more of news will spill it once we get closer to the Diamond/Pearl launch.

Richie, it sounds like your idea is going to wind up using even more bandwidth than the forum idea, and is gonna wind up with the same work for the mods as that idea. I'm really not seeing where it's less of a "hassle".

How are the mods going to be doing more work? You don't even *need* a forum for it. I mean that is why we have the forums as Other Chat, Pokemon, Chit Chat.

We don't need a specific area for it because there already are NUMEROUS areas you could put it XD

Other Chat is for other stuff, same with Chit Chat.

General Pokemon is full of "what poke is your fav?" and junk like that.

Which would currently entail it to news, but it would be too quickly lost in the junk that is "blaziken or charizard"

Assumptions can be bad at times, unless you have tested something out you will never know.

I have done both RSS Forums and RSS Pages, and I can tell you for a fact RSS Pages are better.

Yeah, Pokemon General is too spamified to be the news forum.
We'd need somewhere where there would be *GASP* intelligent conversation. =O

Here it's a lot bigger audience, and a forum would be much more appreciated.

Yea, I support the forum idea myself... why just make a page... make a forum so it can atleast be somewhat organized... making a page so the same topics can be in a forum is idiotic...

There are only like 5-6 people who would have a intelligent conversation, I mean seriously do you honestly believe it would work out that way and you told me yourself last night you weren't keen on JKaizer's idea.

And JKaizer, that was uncalled for and was a blatant vicious vindictive attack because I do not agree with your statements. You don't know any other forum I go to and that was totally rude.
