Saddam guilty of Dujail Massacre

    The court convicted the former Iraqi president for spearheading the massacre in Dujail following an assassination and recommended the death penalty for him and Barzan. Taha Yasin Ramadan gets 15 years.

    You all know the drill.
     
    Just saw something about this on TV. He seemed really pissed after he heard what his sentence was going to be. He's probably going to appeal, but that's just going to be prolonging the inevitable. For everything he's done, this is a fair result.
     
    Even the Iraqi PM says it's fair.

    It's a good thing that he's going to die, but now we face the possibility of a backlash from Sunnis, who have been calling for the trial to stop. And we already have indications that a civil war could be on the way with all the mosque attacks.

    And they'll do well to deny him an appeal — the citizens won't have it, Bush won't have it, Europe won't have it....

    Yeah, I read it. He probably thinks he's going to be a martyr now. I'm generally against the death penality, but in a case like this, it really would do the world well to make sure he can't hurt anyone again.

    I just read up on this about an hour ago. I think it's great news, although I'm very concerned about the backlash that is going to occur. The hardline Sunnis are not happy in the least bit about this. =\
     
    I guess Saddam deserves it. But I thought noone did hanging anymore, I think being hanged is a bit harsh but in Saddam's situation, it's one of the best options.l
     
    I think he deserves to die..I can't say anything else or my Muslim friend who hates him will probably kill me XD

    But really, he was evil..so one less bad thing in this world to complain about everyday.
     
    I think he deserves every bit of it. I also agreew ith Fuz on the backlash this will have. Not gonna be pretty. I heard today he was sentenced to hang (which I know has been mentioned) And I think he should get it. He is a murderer. He has killed hundreds. he should hang there....for awhile. And xx NIca xx, one less to worry about another one will just take his place.

    Any time a leader is executed, there will be some degree of backlash...I can see a great deal of bad come out of this, even if it will do some good.

    Ever since Lawrence of Arabia, the middle east has learned to abhor western civilization like nothing else. And almost everything to occur after has only served to strengthen this hatred. And if both sides get nukes, it could end very badly for everyone involved, and then some.

    Oh well.
     
    The Sunnis aren't going to be using nukes to attack anyone. You don't need to worry about that. They have neither the technology or the funds to pull that off. This is why they resort to guerrilla warfare...suicide missions and hit and run attacks.

    While I believe that it is not the business of the United States to meddle around in countries that are nowhere near a threat to national security-wheter it be to crack down on their ills or some weapons program or just for the spite of nationbuilding-I also believe Saddam deserved the sentencing. This has been a long-awaited (and possibly to never come) moment for (just about) all.
     
    The verdict was right and just and I support the death penelty for the most heinous crimes.

    Or they may just step out and gun everbody who is not a sunni down, and make things worse for the troops and inocent people over there, actuall they will probally do both. XD. They think violence is how to settle things.
     
    And, unfortunately, that's sort of the way we have to go now. Why, just look at North Korea! We tried making sanctions, but noooooo the stupid Kim Jong Ill had to be a bastard and keep using his freaken nukes. Obviously, the "nonviolence" path ain't really working right now, so a country's got to do what a country's got to do.

    Really mature, he did a lot of bad stuff, but you don't need to go IN ALL CAPS LOCKS about it, it makes you look like you haven't got a mature opinion... o_O; Oh, and stop saying bastard and freaken', if you can't say your opinion without swearing... it does kinda make it look bad...

    I never support the death penalty; but life wouldn't do him any good. He's so old as it is. Of course, when you kill someone controversial, there will be controversy -- it is fair, but obviously people are going to be unhappy about it, but overall I think it'll be for the good of the world that they get rid of him... At least if he wasn't in jail, you'd know he wasn't trying to escape... Heh.

    Well, Kylie-chan, lets just say I've been waiting for this moment for quite a while, and I'm simply expressing my opinion of Saddam Hussein, which, of course, is complete hatred.

    And, yes, I do have a mature opinion if you didn't figure that out by now. Mature opinions can be expressed like that. And it seems you're trying to sort of pardon Mussein of his horrible past crimes when you say I don't need to all caps. That's how opinions can be expressed. The United States of America has the rule of free speech just to let you know.

    And it is a big deal, whether you realize it or not. But you should realize it, because this is one of the madmen terriosts that made the Middle East and other parts of the world more unsafe.
