For those of you who battle competitively by Smogon rules on Pokemon Showdown, are you happy with the recent suspect tests and how they've resulted? Do you think that they need to focus attention elsewhere in order to make a certain battle style better? (i.e. banning knock off so stall can keep passive recovery). And for those of you that have gotten reqs and voted in the past few suspects, what did you vote for?

At the battle server we had a pretty in-depth discussion on why certain things are broken and we never really came to the conclusion of why they aren't already banned or why the suspect test allowed them to stay -cough-megametagross-cough-. Do you have an idea for why smogon doesn't focus on things that the majority of players find broken because it is? Or why they focus on things that players think are broken even though they might not necessarily be? Just curious on some things and wanted opinions.

i think the focuses have been fine. i don't expect knock off or scald to get suspected any time soon because there isn't a precedent for that really. stealth rock is as objectively broken as a move can be, but i completely get why there is little support for a suspect. i think moves are a lot more difficult to tier than pokemon because they're so reliant on their abusers, distribution, etc. spore was 100% broken before its nerf this gen because sleep is 100% broken as a mechanic. i think you could argue that u-turn is similar because it forces players to either take risks or remain in unfavorable positions. moves are complicated. the only one i would ban if given the choice right now is scald.

as for pokemon, i feel like their focuses have been right. i voted to ban greninja and mega metagross. i don't love how the mega metagross suspect ended, and while the meta has adapted to it alright, i still still it's broken as shit and wish it got banned. no problem with the landorus suspect despite the obvious bandwagon going on because, well, landorus is kinda bs lol so while i am not convinced it's broken, i think there is plenty good reason to suspect as much and want it out. it's definitely not as broken as metagross though in my opinion.

i also felt like the aegislash retest was necessary because its ban in xy happened under dubious circumstances.

i am pretty satisfied overall. i don't love the results, but oras is a difficult metagame to tier well with so many moving parts. there are a lot of "not quite broken but definitely not the healthiest for the metagame" pokemon like altaria. i don't know what you do with such pokemon to be honest.
