Seeking advice on my team ^_^

I have been trying to formulate a good team for the Battle Tower on Emerald and R/S and for the Orre Colloseum on XD. I like to think i'm an experienced battler, having gotten to 78 straight wins in the Sapphire Battle Tower and having earned all the symbols but one (Battle Tower) on Emerald. HOWEVER, I have hardly ever battled against any real, live experienced trainers so for all I know i'm uselss at battling. Computer or game controlled battles dont think creatively. So I'm seeking team advice for battles. I'm having trouble in Orre Colloseum - only beaten the first 4 battles so far-, and I have not got the gold symbols on the Fronteir, just the regular ones, and none at all for the Tower.

Those of you who really are experienced may be able to help me and suggest improvements. I always used to go for power. Now I lean more towards Defence, having gotten to a certain point with power before finding my defence left me whimpering in defeat. I have over 20 L100 Pokemon, but I want to train a fresh team, all carefully EV trained and bred for their natures. I'll list the Pokemon i'm Considering. There are more than 6. I tend to train around ten so I can switch them around. Can anyone give suggestions and critisism on the ones I consider and suggestions for ones I might want to add to my list, and why? Advice on moves, natures, stats, and held items is welcome.

My skill....or lack of it...will likely be evident from my choices of Pokemon. I havent posted movesets for all of these yet, suggestions greatly welcome as well as reasons for the choices of moves.
    • Articuno. I love using the Mind Reader, Sheer Cold combo. I plan to have it know Ice Beam as well, the other move i'm not sure of yet.
    • Tyranitar. Crunch, Earthquake, Flamethrower, ?. I choose Tyranitar because its strong offensively and defensively. I had a hard time defeating one in the Orre Coll.
    • Golduck, Ability Damp. This may seem like an odd choice. Its chosen purely because in the second round in Orrre Coll, trainers repeatedlty use Explosion. This drives me nuts and knocks me out. Having Golduck in action stops them using it. I bred my young Psyduck with Cross Chop and Psychic, which do respectable damage. Any suggestions on other Pokemon to help me defeat the Exploding Teams?
    • Tauros. Tauros appears to be one of the few Normal types with high defence to stop those annoying fighting moves. Planned moveset: Earthquake, Body Slam, ?, and does anyone know how to breed Megahorn into Tauros?
    • Registeel: Higher Defence and Sp.Defence than the other Regi, and a reasonably good range of moves. Moveset Undecided, except definately Explosion for when Registeel is nearly out, to do passing damage.
    • Slowbro or Slowking, Own Tempo. Does anyone have stat listings for these two? Which one is better to train, (I want the highest Sp Defence mainly) which one should I use? They may be slow but i find them hard to KO, and they have respectable attaking power. Psychic, definately. Ice Beam. The rest i'm debating.
    • I am stuck on a Fire type. My L100 Charizard gets whacked by water types and too many Pokemon know rock attacks. My Blaziken is too weak with so many knowing either Earthquake or Psychic.
    • Swampert. Mine has always served me well and was first in my team when I reached 78 in the Battle towerr Sapphire. Ice Beam, Earthquake always. Surf is no good in double battles, so perhaps Hydro Pump. I dont know whether to choose Endeavor or Mirror Coat.
    • Cradily? High defense and Sp Defence, if I can breed it with Mirror Coat and Sludge bomb and teach it Giga Drain and something else, perhaps it could be useful.
I'm sure my suggestions are full of flaws and weaknesses, and as far as double battle strategies I am still learning. Please lend a Hand!

Finally, does anyone have comprehensive lists of where to find all the Battle CD's on XD? I have beaten most of them, but annoyingly cant find the remanining 15 or so. I checked the locations listed in my guide with no luck. Perhaps there is something I have not done?

    Many thinks, experienced ones ^_^.

    Hikari.

Well if youare leaning more towards defence you might want to try this stall team:

    Zapdos @ Leftovers ** Quetzalwhata
    Trait: Pressure
    EVs: 236 HP / 100 Def / 20 Spd / 154 SAtk
    Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Hidden Power [Grass]
    - Rest
    - Sleep Talk
    - Thunderbolt

    Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers ** Metal Bird
    Trait: Sturdy
    EVs: 240 HP / 56 Atk / 196 Def / 16 Spd
    Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
    - Hidden Power [Flying]
    - Rest
    - Spikes
    - Whirlwind

    Blissey (F) @ Leftovers ** Whore
    Trait: Natural Cure
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Aromatherapy
    - Seismic Toss
    - Softboiled
    - Thunder Wave

    Dusclops (F) @ Leftovers ** Cyclops
    Trait: Pressure
    EVs: 252 HP / 56 Atk / 176 Def / 24 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Pain Split
    - Seismic Toss
    - Shadow Ball
    - Will-O-Wisp

Claydol @ Leftovers ** Clay figure
    Trait: Levitate
    EVs: 236 HP / 252 Def / 20 SDef
    Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
    - Earthquake
    - Ice Beam
    - Rapid Spin
    - Rest

Suicune @ Leftovers ** Mineral Water
    Trait: Pressure
EVs: I don't know the ReflectCune EVs.
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Reflect
    - Rest
    - Roar
    - Surf

    That should work well.

Sorry it's doesn't have any of the Pokemon you suggested but that would work the best as far as a stall team (which is defence) goes. Hope this helps.

I always thought Hidden Power was incredibly weak. How does that help me?

I need defence, yes. But due to inexperience, im not sure how I would use those movesets. I still need to be able to KO my opponents. Skaromory has hardly any attack moves in the suggested moveset. How would I make best use of those movesets?

Usually I wouldnt use Claydol, because i always find them very easy to KO. I dont like dusclops, I never train Ghost types. I have my own reasons, please dont ask. Zapdos, hey good idea, I didnt think of that.

I hope I havent offended you questioing your suggestions. Oh, and I have a Lv100 Blissey, EV trained, at my use ^_^.

OHKO moves like Sheer Cold should be avoided. Your opponents will not let you set up and you'll probably get a Rock Slide to the face.

    Articuno @ Leftovers
    Trait: Pressure
    EVs: 188 HP / 188 Def / 132 SDef
    Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
    - Ice Beam
    - Rest
    - Sleep Talk
    - Roar/Heal Bell

Arti's job is to stall the opponent out of PP with Pressure, using Rest and Sleep Talk as its main moves. Roar is for phazing, but since you have XD, you have access to the handy-dandy Heal Bell that can wake you up from sleeping.

[*]Tyranitar. Crunch, Earthquake, Flamethrower, ?. I choose Tyranitar because its strong offensively and defensively. I had a hard time defeating one in the Orre Coll.

    Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Sand Stream
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Dragon Dance
    - Earthquake
    - Rock Slide
    - Taunt

The preffered Tyranitar is the Dragon Dancer, which pwns things hard and prevents status or phazing by using Taunt.

[*]Golduck, Ability Damp.

Explosion is easy to defend against if you can predict. Protect, or use resistant types like Ghost or Steel.

[*]Tauros. Tauros appears to be one of the few Normal types with high defence to stop those annoying fighting moves. Planned moveset: Earthquake, Body Slam, ?, and does anyone know how to breed Megahorn into Tauros?

Tauros can't learn Megahorn at all.

    Tauros (M) @ Choice Band
    Trait: Intimidate
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Return
    - Earthquake
    - Iron Tail
    - Sleep Talk

Basic Choice Bander. Iron Tail is for stuff like Gengar and Aerodactyl. Sleep Talk lets you keep on fighting even when you're asleep.

[*]Registeel: Higher Defence and Sp.Defence than the other Regi, and a reasonably good range of moves. Moveset Undecided, except definately Explosion for when Registeel is nearly out, to do passing damage.

    Registeel @ Leftovers
    Trait: Clear Body
    EVs: 252 HP / 56 Atk / 88 Def / 112 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Curse
    - Explosion
    - Earthquake
    - Thunder Wave

If you're using the Explosion set, go with the following moveset above. Except you should definitely go with Rest as like Articuno, Registeel job is to stall, not to attack.

[*]Slowbro or Slowking, Own Tempo. Does anyone have stat listings for these two? Which one is better to train, (I want the highest Sp Defence mainly) which one should I use? They may be slow but i find them hard to KO, and they have respectable attaking power. Psychic, definately. Ice Beam. The rest i'm debating.

Slowbro is way better due to its defense. It works best when using Calm Mind, and since Calm Mind boosts Special Defense, you should focus on putting EVs into its physical Defense.

    Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Oblivious
    EVs: 212 HP / 252 Def / 30 SAtk / 16 SDef
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Calm Mind
    - Surf
    - Psychic
    - Rest

[*]I am stuck on a Fire type. My L100 Charizard gets whacked by water types and too many Pokemon know rock attacks. My Blaziken is too weak with so many knowing either Earthquake or Psychic.

You don't NEED a Fire type in every team. In fact, one reason people don't really use Fire Pokemon is because they are weak against so many types like Water and Ground, which are everywhere.

[*]Swampert. Mine has always served me well and was first in my team when I reached 78 in the Battle towerr Sapphire. Ice Beam, Earthquake always. Surf is no good in double battles, so perhaps Hydro Pump. I dont know whether to choose Endeavor or Mirror Coat.

Endeavor is bad because Swampert isn't fast enough to pull it off after reaching a low health. It should only be used on fast Pokemon like Sceptile or Swellow.

    Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Torrent
    EVs: 172 HP / 68 Atk / 156 Def / 56 SAtk / 56 SDef
    Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
    - Earthquake
    - Curse
    - Ice Beam
    - Rest

This is standard Cursepert. Destroy stuff with a boosted Earthquake and Ice Beam Flyers that get in your way. The nature can vary, most people choose Brave, but it can be Relaxed or Sassy as well.

[*]Cradily? High defense and Sp Defence, if I can breed it with Mirror Coat and Sludge bomb and teach it Giga Drain and something else, perhaps it could be useful.[/LIST]I'm sure my suggestions are full of flaws and weaknesses, and as far as double battle strategies I am still learning. Please lend a Hand!

    Cradily (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Suction Cups
    EVs: 220 HP / 116 Atk / 80 Def / 92 SDef
    Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Recover
    - Barrier
    - Rock Slide
    - Mirror Coat

I like this Cradily set. With Suction Cups, you can take advantage of Barrier without fearing Pokemon who can phaze you away. Then they'll be forced to attack you specially, and that's when you Mirror Coat them.

Finally, does anyone have comprehensive lists of where to find all the Battle CD's on XD? I have beaten most of them, but annoyingly cant find the remanining 15 or so. I checked the locations listed in my guide with no luck. Perhaps there is something I have not done?
I don't play Pokemon Gamecube games (or even have a Gamecube), so this would be better in Pokemon Consoles forum.

I always thought Hidden Power was incredibly weak. How does that help me?

You must be talking about in-game Hidden Power (or as we like to abbreviate, HP). In-game HPs are always random in type and power depending on your stats. That's why you might find it weak because your HP is imperfect. In order to get perfect HPs with max power and an appropriate typing, your Pokemon need near-perfect stats. This is nearly impossible to obtain in-game, which is why HP isn't recommended in-game.

I need defence, yes. But due to inexperience, im not sure how I would use those movesets. I still need to be able to KO my opponents. Skaromory has hardly any attack moves in the suggested moveset. How would I make best use of those movesets?

That's because Skarm's job is not to attack, it's to DEFEND. And not just against any attack, it's job is to Defend against physical attacks. For Skarmory, your first priority is to check for Magneton, which are Skarm's ultimate arch-enemies. To do this, you would use Whirlwind to blow any potential Magnetons away. Once you think you are safe, you would use Spikes three times. Three layers of Spikes cuts your opponents HP by 25% every time they switch. If they won't switch, you can FORCE them to switch by using Whirlwind. If you are weak on health, use Rest. Only use Drill Peck on things that you know you can kill.
That's Skarms strategy. I will be posting up a moveset list soon with explanations on different movesets to help newbies. For now, visit https://www.smogon.com/advance/pokemon for further strategies on Pokemon.

Usually I wouldnt use Claydol, because i always find them very easy to KO.

Claydol should not be easy to kill or else you've fought some very weak Claydols. A well trained Claydol is awesome, it's immune to Ground and can Rapid Spin, an important strategy against Spikers like Skarmory mentioned above.

I dont like dusclops, I never train Ghost types. I have my own reasons, please dont ask.

I bet they're not good reasons, because Ghost types are awesome. Immune to Normal and Fighting, and can specialize in a wide variety of different attacks.

Oh my bad I forgot this was in-game. Umm if you want to use Wirlwind use Aerial Ace insted of HP [Flying] also if you want to use Roar go with Drill Peck only because WW+DP=not obtainable. Seems aragorn covered me there thanks dude.

In-game refers to I guess you could say "non-competitve" or non-NetBattle game play. Another words using your game cartrage to play the game, lol.

Choice Band strengthens all the power of all of your physical attacks by 1.5 times. So say we have a CB Mence with Aerial Ace, with Choice Band it increases it's power x1.5, then it gets STAB (same type attack bonus). It does limit you to that one move so choose wisely.

For future refrence this guide I wrote could help you.

Okay. When Using Choice Band do I have to switch my Pokemon out before I can use a different move?

I printed out all the suggestions so far so I can go through them properly at home.

Further advice is always welcome ^_^ The more I have, the better, thanks so much you guys.

I appear to be a crummy trainer after all. XD

Addressing the CB question yes you do.

I linked you to the guide. That has a lot of good info in it. If has advice on building a good team too. Stuff you can do in-game as well, well except pefect HPs.

You should definitly download NetBattle it is a great program. It can help you test a your movesets out against some good players. Go to www.NetBattle.net to download it.

I have never heard of it. How is it used?>

    ~*^*~~*^*~ ~*^*~ ~*^*~ ~*^*~~*^*~

It's a free program that you download. After you install it, you build a team, then connect to a server, and now you can battle Pokemon online with other players!

I actually meant to make a list on that in the XD forum, but I haven't found the time (and in some cases the resources). I'll try to help if I can. In the meantime you can try gamefaqs.

Oh, Yea, I Got A Better Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you can buy a Gameshark SP or an Action Replay Max to get Ho-oh, Lugia, Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and {(Deoxys) [in other forms]), and get infinte rare candies, and master balls and other useful stuff in the game, but the systems devices cost around $31-40 dollars so you won't go to pokemon.com just to spend $10 downloading netbattle just only getting to pokemon at a time.;)

This is one guy you DON'T listen to. Netbattle is a free download for your information. Cheating devices suck the fun out of 95% of games IMO.

LOL pay for NetBattle.... thats a new one. If you wan't to test your team and make it better and learn more about the game and the ways to own your Nubbish friends, then download Netbattle. Trust me i was in your position a month ago

Please Don't Pay Attention To Those Failers

Please take my advice! I will feel your dreams with any kind of pokemon, secret islands and items! And will tell you were to get them besides netbatle! I'm realy a nice person you can trust! Making friends with users that hardy don't have any friends is a bad dession!

How many of them do you actually talk to on a regular basis? Not many most likely your probably like: "OMG PM ME AND WE ARE FRIENDS." While all the people that are totally socially-able are like *put on our lollerskates* because we actually have real friends and a life. All the people in my sig I actually talk too all the time. Like I said there are more...

I have more friends than you could ever hope for, and so does everyone else here in Strats and Movesets.

IMO just because we're not your friend doesn't mean we don't have friends. Thats a very condescending thing to say.

You report people for going off-topic, yet here you are: going off-topic! Everything I bolded in your post is not only off-topic, it's also false.
Don't try to fool Hikari, I'm sure she's smart enough to see who is right and who is wrong here.

Also, I'm going to advise future posters to stick to the main topic or else this thread will be totally derailed and I'll be forced to lock it. If you've got a beef to pick with Tory, sent it through PM instead of cluttering the forum.
