Also, I am avoiding moves like Rock Slide because in double battles (which I find easier than single in Orre Colosseum) they are not strong enough since they strike both opponents.
H i k a r i said:I have been trying to formulate a good team for the Battle Tower on Emerald and R/S and for the Orre Colloseum on XD. I like to think i'm an experienced battler, having gotten to 78 straight wins in the Sapphire Battle Tower and having earned all the symbols but one (Battle Tower) on Emerald. HOWEVER, I have hardly ever battled against any real, live experienced trainers so for all I know i'm uselss at battling. Computer or game controlled battles dont think creatively. So I'm seeking team advice for battles. I'm having trouble in Orre Colloseum - only beaten the first 4 battles so far-, and I have not got the gold symbols on the Fronteir, just the regular ones, and none at all for the Tower.
Those of you who really are experienced may be able to help me and suggest improvements. I always used to go for power. Now I lean more towards Defence, having gotten to a certain point with power before finding my defence left me whimpering in defeat. I have over 20 L100 Pokemon, but I want to train a fresh team, all carefully EV trained and bred for their natures. I'll list the Pokemon i'm Considering. There are more than 6. I tend to train around ten so I can switch them around. Can anyone give suggestions and critisism on the ones I consider and suggestions for ones I might want to add to my list, and why? Advice on moves, natures, stats, and held items is welcome.
My skill....or lack of it...will likely be evident from my choices of Pokemon. I havent posted movesets for all of these yet, suggestions greatly welcome as well as reasons for the choices of moves.
I'm sure my suggestions are full of flaws and weaknesses, and as far as double battle strategies I am still learning. Please lend a Hand!
- Articuno. I love using the Mind Reader, Sheer Cold combo. I plan to have it know Ice Beam as well, the other move i'm not sure of yet. Try Reflect and train it in SD. This will help Arti survive attacks between Mind Reader and Sheer Cold.
- Tyranitar. Crunch, Earthquake, Flamethrower, ?. I choose Tyranitar because its strong offensively and defensively. I had a hard time defeating one in the Orre Coll.
- Golduck, Ability Damp. This may seem like an odd choice. Its chosen purely because in the second round in Orrre Coll, trainers repeatedlty use Explosion. This drives me nuts and knocks me out. Having Golduck in action stops them using it. I bred my young Psyduck with Cross Chop and Psychic, which do respectable damage. Any suggestions on other Pokemon to help me defeat the Exploding Teams?
- Tauros. Tauros appears to be one of the few Normal types with high defence to stop those annoying fighting moves. Planned moveset: Earthquake, Body Slam, ?, and does anyone know how to breed Megahorn into Tauros?
- Registeel: Higher Defence and Sp.Defence than the other Regi, and a reasonably good range of moves. Moveset Undecided, except definately Explosion for when Registeel is nearly out, to do passing damage.
- Slowbro or Slowking, Own Tempo. Does anyone have stat listings for these two? Which one is better to train, (I want the highest Sp Defence mainly) which one should I use? They may be slow but i find them hard to KO, and they have respectable attaking power. Psychic, definately. Ice Beam. The rest i'm debating. Slowbro explained at bottom
- I am stuck on a Fire type. My L100 Charizard gets whacked by water types and too many Pokemon know rock attacks. My Blaziken is too weak with so many knowing either Earthquake or Psychic. Charizard is not very strong except on NB, when you can get HP Grass. Physical Zard is actually better in-game, where you want my set listed below.
- Swampert. Mine has always served me well and was first in my team when I reached 78 in the Battle towerr Sapphire. Ice Beam, Earthquake always. Surf is no good in double battles, so perhaps Hydro Pump. I dont know whether to choose Endeavor or Mirror Coat. Mirror Coat over Endeavor, but use Surf.
- Cradily? High defense and Sp Defence, if I can breed it with Mirror Coat and Sludge bomb and teach it Giga Drain and something else, perhaps it could be useful.
Finally, does anyone have comprehensive lists of where to find all the Battle CD's on XD? I have beaten most of them, but annoyingly cant find the remanining 15 or so. I checked the locations listed in my guide with no luck. Perhaps there is something I have not done?
Many thinks, experienced ones ^_^.

Tyranitar@Leftovers
Nature: Adamant (+Att, - Sp Att)
EV: 4 HP/ 252 Att / 252 Speed
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide/HP Rock/Ancientpower
Taunt
Nice one, you have Taunt. Tauntratar can be awesome if you can predict right, can stop slow tanks like Umbreon who generally don't have any direct attacks, can stop people hazing away your Dragon Dances, and gives you the time to set up DD for sweeping.
In order to get Dragon Dance onto Tyranitar, you'll have to do a bit of chain breeding. Since Tyranitar is only in the Monster egg group, the only other Pokemon in that egg group that learns Dragon Dance is Charmander and his evolutions.
Chain is: Gyarados -> Charmander -> Larvitar.
Zapdos: generally looks ok. Consider HP Grass or Ice over Light Screen, it can hit opponents that would stop Zapdos in his tracks like Swampert.
Skarmory - Drill Peck and Whirlwind is an illegal combination of egg moves (they can have one or the other, but not both). Use Roar if you want Drill Peck, and if you want Whirlwind, use HP Flying. You can even use Steel Wing over your flying attack if you like.
With Skarmory, you want to use his Defence to your advantage. Fixing up his Sp Def won't help him much, since he'll die just as quickly and it'll be a waste of EV points. The key here is switching to something that can take special hits for Skarmory, on your team Cradily does that role, and Registeel to an extent. Skarmory's role on a team is usually to take physical hits, set up Spikes, and use Roar or Whirlwind to force as many Pokemon to hit those spikes doing up to 25% damage per switch.
Slowbro - awesome Pokemon. I'd use Surf over Psychic, Slowbro doesn't get STAB for Psychic, and besides Surf hurts more stuff. Bold nature and high Defence and HP EV, Calm Mind covers his Special stats.
Registeel - Curse + Explosion hurts. Registeel can stall enough without Rest, but I'd recommend using that if you want to stall rather than explode.
Cradily - Mirror Coat set, works ok. I've only used Cradily a few times competitively, and I found they could be a little too easily countered. Maybe I just didn't have enough luck.
If you're looking at Wobbuffet and Latias, try making an uber team instead. Wobbuffet is generally banned from standard play because it can be very easily and cheaply utilized.
Oh good! I know how to do that, that's easy. I already got most of the others that Duking wants, so that should be simple to get,. Thanks!!Synchronize said:The power doesn't decrease because it strikes both opponents. Attacks seem to do less damage in colosseum battles because these pokemon have actually been somewhat EV trained, while yours, quite possibly, aren't. Such as my DD Salamence not outrunning a Raikou with 1 Dragon Dance, because I had not EV trained it for speed at all.
As for a Dragon Dancing Tyranitar, I believe Altaria is in the chain as well, but other than that, you can receive an automatic DD Larvitar in Pokemon XD (if you ever get around to buying/playing it) through a mini-side quest.
I played XD all through, Battle Bingo and Battle CD's and all!
