3rd Gen Sevii Islands

The Sevii Islands were nothing more than a poor man's Orange Islands (and Johto). I found them to be extremely bland and generic (they didn't even use their own music, ripping off themes from Johto instead), and all of those sidequests were just tedious. It's painfully obvious that the Sevii Islands were only put into the games as a dumping ground for post-Gen 1 stuff they were too "afraid" to give us in Kanto (like berries, breeding, and Gen 2 Pokémon).

Luckily though, Game Freak seems to have realized that they made a mistake with these islands, as they haven't been seen or heard from in any other game since FRLG. I'd love to see a game based around the actual Orange Islands, although sadly it'll probably never happen. :(

Yeah, I think they're pretty underwhelming. :(

GF wanted FRLG to be accurate to the classics to the point of zealotry. While I didn't mind having only the original 150 Pokémon to choose from, this choice of design hurt them because they didn't seem to know where to take Red's story after he became Champion.

The only thing of significance that happens there with a character from the canon is the brief encounter with Lorelei, and, considering they didn't bring her back in later games, it didn't have any impact.

I haven't played the post-game Sevii Islands for Firered yet, but personally in my opinion it would work better if the Sevii Islands can be visited only during the post-game and not after you beat the Cinnabar Island Gym just to get Moltres. Also, in my opinion Moltres should be in Victory Road instead of in the Sevii Islands considering that Articuno and Zapdos are in Kanto.

Still, from my glance of browsing through three islands just to get Moltres, I find them great since they're a fresh new experience.

Yeah, that was very much a waste. :rolleyes2: Seeing as that whole Sevii Team Rocket plot was supposed to be a precursor to the Lake of Rage plot from Gen 2, that really should've been Lance down there instead of Lorelei, anyways. He actually plays a significant role in the sequels, and it would've been nice had FRLG properly set up his story in Gen 2 instead of blindly returning to the cardboard, OOC characterization he had in RBY.

If you're going to try to foreshadow GSC's Lake of Rage plot, why ignore one of its most important characters? Especially if it's in favor of "fleshing out" another character who has zero relevance to the sequels and is ultimately never seen or heard from again after that? It makes zero sense.
