2nd Gen Shinies and rares

    Who catches shiny pokemon in gold, silver, crystal, even RBY?
    Does anyone have rare pokemon from events? Like the NYPC event in the 2000's?
    I personally love hatching and finding shinies
     
    Well, there were no shinies prior to GSC, so no one's shiny hunting in gen I Kanto, haha. I don't really care for shinies in gen II because I have no way to save them, so that for me would be the worst game to get a shiny in. It's the only gen I haven't found a random shiny though, along with gen VI.
     
    In GSC, I was able to find four shinies in total (aside from Gyarados). The first was Hoothoot, which I've found at the beginning of Silver. I kept this Pokémon on my team up until Pokémon League. My next shiny was Weedle, I think, which I ran into while exploring Viridian Forest in Pokémon Gold. Didn't use this Pokémon at all; as soon as I captured it, I put it into my PC. Then, in Crystal, I managed to stumble into a shiny Pidgey at Route 1. My last shiny, which was also in Pokémon Crystal, was a Machop. I didn't fully evolve this Pokémon, though I did train it up a bit. d:
     
    Found a Geodude and Dunsparce. Caught the Geodude, killed the Dunsparce by accident :(
     
    I found a Shiny Tentacool while level grinding to beat Chuck in Gold. It's currently in my Pokemon Stadium 2 box until I catch one hundred and fifty Pokemon in Crystal. I needed to have the batteries replaced and I's rather have it in Stadium 2 than have it be deleted. Unobtainable either way because it knows Icy Wind, so I can't withdraw with a Gen 1 game.
     
    I only found one shiny in and that was in crystal, it was a male bellsprout bubt as soon as I got it I traded it off to the boy who gives you an onix for a bellsprout

    When I originally played through GSC, I didn't have much luck with shinies. Most of my gen 2 shiny luck has been in a Silver file that I restarted after my Gold game died, or on emulators. I never actively sought shinies in those games.

    In Gold (my main file from the GSC generation), my only shiny was the red Gyarados from the storyline. I think my luck was similar in Crystal (don't think I got anything besides Gyarados again there, and no one I knew got a shiny from the egg that the day care gives you when you first visit, so I didn't realize the shiny chance for that was elevated). In Silver, I caught a shiny Sneasel and a shiny Mareep. I never had time to do much with them, though. I think I stuck them on Stadium 2, so they should still be there.

    I did discover that my Blastoise from Red had the right IVs to be shiny if sent to GSC, which was pretty cool. I never traded him over permanently, but it was neat to learn that I had gotten a shiny on my first try without any effort to do so on my part.
     
    When I learned the Odd Egg was 50% shiny (correct me if I'm wrong haha), I played and checked my egg, shiny Cleffa. Aw yisss.
     
    @ Flush'd, yeah I believe that's kinda accurate ^_^ you really had a high chance of this Egg to hatch into a Shiny, managed to get myself a Shiny Magby, Pichu, Igglybuff and Smoochum this way (always traded them over when I started a new game!), ofcourse multiple saved files throughout the years.

    My first shiny ever in this series (ASIDE from Gyarados) was a Pidgey, later I also caught a Gligar, Rattata, Spearow in the same Gold game. In my Crystal game I also caught a shiny Poliwag and Swimub, and in my Silver game I once caught a shiny Girafarig.
     
    I've tried and have been trying to get a shiny ho-oh and failed every time :(

    I didn't even know shiney's existed until a few months ago... (I just got back into Pokemon) so I probably killed a crap load of them in Gen 2.

    Yeah I was about to say the same thing about shinies in red, blue, yellow (and the normally forgotten green). But you beat me to it. Only shiny I remember is gyarados of course. I can not recall after several years of disinterest if I ever caught any other shiny, but I'm not really interested in them either so :\
     
    When I was a very small child, I caught a shiny Rattata in Crystal, Pidgey in Gold, and Venonat in Silver.

    More recently, while playing Vietnamese Crystal, this happened. She's an Ariados now, and is actually pretty decent for having what I think is the absolute worst type combination.

    Crystal was actually the first game I caught a shiny in. Tonbogiri, my Yanma. Even back then, I was infatuated with Japanese culture and named that blue beauty accordingly. I miss him :'C
