4th Gen Shiny questions

    Hi, I'm new around here, and I was wondering if someone could help me. I've been trying to get a shiny starter in Pearl by restarting the game if the Pokemon wasn't shiny. In the part where you're picking a Pokemon from the three in the briefcase and it shows their picture and asks if you want that Pokemon, would it show up as shiny then, or would you have to wait until you took it into battle to see if it was shiny? If anyone has gotten a shiny starter through this method, please answer my question.

    Also, I have kind of a broad question of ethics about shinies. I know a lot of people use cheating devices like AR to obtain as many shinies as they want, and I don't think this is fair. I'm trying to collect some shinies without cheating, and I fear that if I'm ever going to show them off, people will accuse me of cheating to get them. All that hard work and searching will have been for nothing. My question is, what does everyone think about this unfair aspect of Pokemon collecting? How can the honest, hard workers be distinguished from the lazy cheaters?
     
    you have to wait to battle to see if its a shiny pkmn. Your wasting your time because the odds are very low.

    Well I think that most people see it unfair when you catch a shiny legendary that runs around Shinou.

    Yeah, I agree with Queen Boo. Your wasting your time, you should probably just wait untill you find one.

    And, it isn't unfair, I dont like cheating either. I just get over it. I dont mean to sound harsh, but if you are mad at them because of their advantage, get an AR...
     
    I don't care if they cheat to get shinies. Shinies may have value in trade but they usually have bad natures, so suck at fighting.

    The chances of a pokemon being a shiny are like one in 8 thousand, or something. I've played for over 200 hours the past two months and have only found ONE.

    If you really want a shiny starter, reset until you get a female, and then when you get access to the breeding center start breeding it like crazy. The way you're going now, you'll probably break your ds before you get one.
     
    Yeah, you have to wait until the battle scene. A lot of my friends have shiny starters because of that. It's not a waste to some people... It just depends if you have the patience to soft reset for a shiny. It could be your second try or 20,000th try so if you're really determined, you'll get it sooner or later. It only took me 3 hours to soft reset for a shiny Lugia and I've been trying to get the shiny Ho-oh since last year. x_X I wouldn't trade it if I were you but keep it to yourself. Only you will have pride in your shinies and to others, it's trade bait. xD You can't really tell hacked shinies from legit ones unless it's badly hacked or the person has a bad personality. Behave right and nice and people will trust and believe you and know you're pokemon are legit.
    Don't breed for a shiny pokemon, it's even worse and takes longer than soft reseting but you might get a shiny with a good nature/attack. I think soft reseting is better. A shiny is a shiny. They are eye candy, not battlers. :D
     
    wellthe only shiny ive evr caught in my say 6 years of playing pkmn is tentarcuel, the others i got through trades, and for that i think its unfair to cheat and its a waste of time to soft recet
     
    I've played over 240 hours in Diamond and I've haven't encountered my own Shiny yet.

    However, I still don't cheat because Gamesharks and ARs can mess up the game's coding. To make matters worse, Nintendo refuses to repair damae done to a game via a cheating device.
     
    In total, between my Crystal, Saphire, Ruby, Leafgreen, and Diamond and over several years I have never seen nor encountered a Shiny Pokemon. That's, I'm sure, well over 6 or 700 hours of play time.

    I've had three outbreaks of Pokerus, though. Hahahaha!

    my pokemon sapphire had 550 hours by itself, and i'd seen 1 shiny pokemon

    the only case ive ever had of pokerus was in my gold version in the silver cave place
     
    I must be kinda lucky. I've been taking the game seriously since Crystal. Here I am now playing Diamond and I've only encountered and captured two shinies. Both on my Diamond.

    A Growlithe - Leveled it up and evolved it. Now a part of one of my teams.

    A Nidoran female - Leveled up and is now a useless Nidoqueen.

    I wish I had that black & gold Luxray though... One can only dream though.
     
    probubly have to wait till battle.. because when it hatches it doesnt look like a shiny if it is.. (atleast I dont think)
     
    Yeah, don't waste your time resetting. I've encountered some shinys, but you'd be wasting too much time resetting for one, just mass breed them instead, since you can also get shiny pokemon out of eggs.

    If you want to go shiny hunting though, you can use the pokeradar.
     
    well whats really not fair is how someone can get so lucky & get a shiny charzard at the beginning. I mean i just got done doing it 51 times still no black charmander.

    oh & i like yalls trainer cards!
