Should One Of Our Heroes (before Iris and Dent) Have Won A Tournament By Now?

^ Something like that, it just makes it so much more obvious that the writers "purposely" make Ash lose. They couldn't have Ash beaten by a "normal" trainer this time, they had to actually put in some random guy with legendaries to make him lose. It annoys me that pretty much the whole way around Ash and co.'s journey there are just normal trainers, no one seems to hear about any powerful trainers apart from the E4, or random stories about some weird guy with legendaries. The writers get to the league and are like, lol, forgot we need to make up some guy for Ash to lose against again. If they really want Ash to lose, why can it not be to a recurring character? Ash losing in the last round to Paul or Gary would be much more satisfying than losing to a random last minute made character. Yeah, sure, you can explain away that the writers are "trying to make it seem as though there are many powerful trainers we don't even know of" (yeah right, it's just lazy writing), but every single time? I'm sorry, but that does not make for enjoyable watching.

If Ash is just meant to be a normal Pokemon trainer that can't win in any league, why exactly are we watching his story?

I'm glad that Zoey got to win the Grand Festival rather than some randomer. I would be more glad if she were actually a remotely interesting character. But it just makes watching Dawn's journey seem so pointless. She couldn't win against Zoey at the start, and she couldn't win against Zoey in the end.

Note: I did not say anywhere I hate the anime or whatever, no one give me "advice" to stop watching if I hate it so much, I'm just annoyed that Ash will never be allowed to win a regional league :D Yes, I do know that he won Orange Islands and Battle Frontier, don't repeat this to me >_>

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I also don't like how Zoey beat Dawn as she's barely an interesting character and dull as dirt. If she had a more lively personality at the very least, then I wouldn't hate how Dawn didn't win so much.

I wouldn't mind Ash's tendency to lose all the time if it weren't for the fact that he tends to lose for reasons that he shouldn't--namely, the fact that he hasn't learned a bloody thing since the series started. It's the fourteen season and he still evidently doesn't know how to use a pokéball. Ash has not been singled out as the hero because he is destined for greatness; we're watching the very special story of a very special boy and his struggle to be normal in spite of his mental handicap.

Alternatively, this is just what happens when you send untrained ten-year-olds out into the world to travel alone and fight with monsters.

NO.

I think it's a common fallacy to think that Ash was so powerful that he needed a person with legendary team to beat him. The fandom has a tendency to overestimate him, Ash isn't an Übermensch. His pikachu may be stronger than the average pikachu, but even with all the training and experience, he's not his strongest pokemon. Haven't you ever had a pokemon (in your games) that was a higher level than the rest but you had a more useful, lower level pokemon? I know that anime =/= games, but the same concept can be kinda related to the anime world (if level=experience).

If you remember correctly, he barely scraped by with Paul. Had it not been for Infernape's blaze activating at that exact moment, who knows what would have happened?

I think the only reason why they added Takuto in was because they needed to make Ash lose in one episode. The quickest way to do that was to make him face off with someone completely out of his league. Trust me, if he had to face off someone even slightly better than Paul, he probably would have lost. But that would require at least a two part episode to make it enjoyable/believable.

In short, I'm fine with the slow-paced direction the anime is taking with Ash's journey. He still has a lot more to prove in my eyes.

Unfortunately, I don't have much opinion on the contests, sorry XD

And it hasn't even been a year yet so he hasn't been training for years and years so you could say that Ash is relatively new to the game as well.

In the anime it has been a year, Ash celebrated his first anniversary with Pikachu in the Pichu Brothers short.

Don't count any thing what the anime says at all, if that were the case Ash wouldn't still be 10 now and Best Wishes has confirmed that he still is. Ask for School, it would have made every one a lot smarter if they they did take it. This way Ash and his friends go on more adventures. Ask for the wins, Ash is still pretty new, it may seem like along time to the viewers but to him and his friends its still new. Ash has achived a lot in this short amount of time.

Ash shouldve won a tournament by now. I really dont care for Dawn that much, but I was please on how far May got. What really bugs me is that Misty became a water pokemon gym leader (her dream) before Ash became a pokemon master. That ticks me off quite a bit. For once can't they let Ash win something? The orange leauge doesnt count in my book. Sorry Ash.
