IC:

Kayley's eyes widened, Railey's words repeating themselves in her head.

Hammer that little runt down with Rock Slide and don't stop until it doesn't move!

She clenched her fists with fury, watching as the Camerupt and their doubles began their latest assault. She wasn't going to let him do that to Fishy! She had to catch that Camerupt off guard somehow! But to do that, she needed to know where the real one was out of that Double Team. That would be easily accomplished with Foresight.. which was an attack that Fishy had trouble with. She couldn't risk it right now, she just had to stop that Rock Slide from hitting.

"Fishy! Use Rock Smash to get rid of the rocks coming towards you!" Kayley shouted, desperation gone from her voice this time.

The Mudkip blinked a few times, still shaking off the last of his confusion. It was then that he finally noticed the great shower of rocks heading towards him, eyes widening for a second before he registered his Trainer's command.

{Uh, right! Rock Smash! I got it now, hee hee!} Fishy yipped, stiffening his tail, which began taking on a soft glow within moments. The Mud Fish, slowly regaining his normal thought patterns, leaped into the air, flipping about in order to strike the first rock and break it into harmless, smaller pieces. He then returned to the ground, where he was forced to quickly swing his tail back towards other boulders that were going to hit him, soon breaking those as well.

There were several lame moments where he tried to strike illusionary rocks, which caused him to hurt himself due to lingering confusion, but for the most part the Mudkip was just breaking rocks that were definitely going to hit him if he didn't break them. He just ignored boulders that were slightly off.

Kayley was still clenching her fists, hoping that Fishy would be able to fend off the whole attack. The chances of that happening were low, but so far the only damage he was recieving was when he struck at illusionary rocks and hurt himself because of it. If Railey tried to change his attack, she would just use that time to risk a Foresight. If he kept going with the Rock Slide.. well, Fishy probably wouldn't be able to keep up, unless..

OOC:

What? It's possible.. xD

Jena had that usual worried look on her face, the one she always had when something was wrong. Or bad. Hazy had been knocked out by Railey's Camerupt. Now the cow was going for Fishy.

Still, it was obvious that the boy didn't become a gym leader by trying his luck. Hopefully, Kayley would think of a way. She seemed to strike the Coordinator as the type of person who would. Like Rai, Zachary, Maxie and Silver.

The girl looked up as Railey told his Camerupt to..squash Fishy? Jena glared at the boy and it seemed that Kayley had heard him too. She continued to watch from the sidelines as Fishy began breaking up the rocks with his tail. Uneasy as she felt, the Coordinator was wondering whether it was acceptable to cheer or not. The rest weren't. Probably because they didn't want to break the girl's concentration.

{Tres Bien, Fishy! Good, good! Very good, Tres Bien!}Tania cheered on impluse, having let her wings fall back to their original places on either side of her small self.

OOC: Yayness! I got done with Alter's present!

Clicky for the awesome drawing!

Yep, and my brother sat there watching me color it, which made me very anxious. I'm not sure how a Dunsparce can play checkers, but perhaps it just nudges the pieces with its mouthpart. *shrug*

OOH! More manga scans!! *gives Yibber cake* You don't realize how excited I get when I get to see manga scans from you. ^-^ Um... wait... why don't they work for me?!!! ;_; *dies* Nooooo! Do they work for everyone else?

Anyway... before I start to cry...

Zachary
============

"Um... wow, that was unexpected," Zachary commented, his eyes wide in surprise at Fishy's smashing escape from Rock Slide, "Could you have done that Ron?"

{No,} the Aron said plainly, looking admirably at Fishy as well, {Are you insane? Why would I have wasted all of my time doing that? I would have just sat there and hudled in my armor in a Harden attack.}

"Oh yeah, that makes sense," the boy replied, nodding, "Come on Fishy... beat this creep!" He wasn't saying it too loud though, the others seemed to be keeping quiet, and so Zachary wasn't about to break it.

Ron looked over to Kaika, and felt suddenly sorry for the little Vulpix. He wished that Kaika never had to come back to his old master, Ron knew that he would never want to see his old master again. It was probably so confusing and painful.

OOC: Like...I'd love to see your scans, Yibber, but all I get is this little piccie that states that the actual picture is no longer there. *Stabs Photobucket* And erm...nope, didn't work for me either. Those greedy bastards keep deleting hosted piccies to make room for new ones unless you get yourself the very special member position (Pay X amount of dollars every <Enter Time Period Here>), I bet. <.<

Nasty hosters aside...OMEHGEE PRETTIFUL PICCEH! ^_________________________^ *Downloads before some evil image hoster tries any funny stuff* Thanks Melissa, I love it. Heh, the Psyduck and the Lileep are so cute. ^0^ And the Houndoom...hee, dogs really do sleep like that, one eye always just a bit open. ^^ Aww...heck, they're all cute. ^^ Oh, and Dunsparces have a lot of supernatural powers which allow them to play checkers, even if they are...ahem, a tad lacking in the limbs department. Oh, and I love the way the Shuckle is so concentrated on the game. Thankies... ^^

And nope, I don't feel any more mature. Well, unless you count having stiff and aching legs as maturity. Bleah, we didn't have any stretching in the last Jujitsu practice and unfortunately it shows. (Poor legs) Oh well, at least I made it through the free practice rounds without loosing once, even beat one of the dudes. And well...that doesn't tend to happen very often. ^^

As for the Rock Smash thing...well yeah, it does make sense. xD Looks like someone finally found an actual use for Rock Smash. ^^

IC:

As Fishy kept making it through the barrage of rocks, Railey's expression grew ever sourer.

"Come on, Camerupt!" he growled indignantly, "Stop fooling around and nail that pipsqueak!" he glared in utter frustration at the continuous dodges of the water type, his patience soon failing him.

"Camerupt!" the gym leader called, "Let's give that runt something real to smash! Sunny Day and Eruption!"

The six identical Camerupts nodded in response, the constant shower of rocks slowly coming to a halt as the camel pokémon and his identical copies all shut their eyes in concentration, the fading rays of sunlight that actually made it into the gym becoming amplified tenfold, suddenly bathing the battlefield in a bright glow and raising the temperature within even further. Rai immediately took a step backwards, not wanting to get caught in the glare of the sun and suffer further heat. He couldn't help wondering how Kayley had to be feeling down there, though, that arena had to be practically scorching by now.

As the boy pondered this, Railey's Camerupt had once again taken up shaking violently, another barrage of rocks soon erupting from the six identical camel pokémon and spewing out in Fishy's general direction, this time however, there was far more noise to be heard, and the boulders were red hot, projecting further heat around them as they flew down towards the Mudkip. Although most of them were, fortunately enough, illusory, trying to smash any of them would still undoubtedly be a painful process.

As the battle raged on, Kaika stood huddled close to Rai, staring at the scene in complete silence with his eyes wide open, obviously intent on not missing a bit of it even though he obviously didn't like what he was seeing.

{Comings on, strange fish person...} he muttered very quietly, {Focusings on the real one and strikings now.}

OOC:

Gawd, yesterday was very dreadful, and today as well, for Plushie. 'Cause I somehow managed to get a head cold. >.< That's why I didn't bother posting. But since it's wearing off, I gotta go back to school tomorrow. Sucks. Majorly. =P

Looking at Melissa's picture for Alter made me feel a bit better, though. Seriously, it's a miracle. xD I wish I could see Yibber's scans, too, but Photobucket ish being ebil. *stabs Photobucket where Alter stabbed it*

And on the subject of the Rock Smash thing, yeah, I figured the least useful move in the game should get some spotlight. xD

IC:

Kayley couldn't help gasping, despite her previous determination, at Railey's latest command. How was she supposed to counter an Eruption at its absolute maximum power? She highly doubted that Fishy's natural resistance would spare him from total defeat. She had to end it now.

"Fishy! Use Foresight!" She shouted, watching as Fishy grimaced in response. Well, there wasn't any point in not trying at all..

The Mudkip, having already ended his Rock Smash a while ago, was now glancing between the many Camerupts on the field. After a few moments, his eyes began glowing very softly, although the glow would only last a few moments before it went away, coming back again several moments later. Apparently the attack wasn't working properly.

{I-I'm sorry, Kay-Kay!} Fishy squeaked, shivering as the Camerupts prepared for an Eruption. {I can't tell which one's real!} If he had had the time, he would've hung his head in shame. Of course, in this situation it was kind of hard to look away from the Camerupts. Kayley finally unclenched her fists, sighing. This was all she needed..

"Alright, then pick one of the Camerupts and use Waterfall on it! If you get the real one, it should be enough to get rid of all the copies!" And, assuming he picks the right one, Kayley added to herself, Maybe it'll be enough to stop the Eruption.

Fishy would've laughed if he were on the sidelines. Just pick one and go for it? Wow, that was well thought-out. He was probably going to pick the wrong one. What would he do then? Just hope that he could outrun the ensuing Eruption? Regardless, Fishy locked eyes with the Camerupt directly in front of him, trying not to get blinded by the Sunny Day.

The Mudkip spewed a Water Gun directly into the air, coating himself with the now steaming water, taking a step back before he began to charge straight for the Camerupt he had chosen to attack, even as all of them began their Eruptions.

Darn. My headache's back. o.O AND HOMEWORK. *compels thy homework*

We're at the halfway point, guys.
I don't really have much to write, as Maxie just watching... Alter and Plush, hurry up and kill the guy!}

Maxie watched the battle through narrowed eyes. She hoped Rai and Kayley creamed that silly little gym leader - not just because they were her friends, of course, but because that kid was a little brat that had hurt Kaika
There I go again, using the 'F' word... she thought irratably to herself, and continued to watch the camerupt.
Without warning, her mind drifted back to Sephy; after all, the little Ralts had been gone nearly two days, and Maxie had hardly noticed. She had been far too busy. For a split second, Maxie felt a pang of guilt; Sephy was hers to look after, to keep from harm. Her eyes slipped to Rai. It's his fault... After all, if he hadn't been around, Sepy wouldn't have been stolen as a hostage.

OOC: Bleah, I've been soooo slow with posting lately...~_~ On a positive note...NO PHYSICS LESSONS THIS SATURDAY! ^0^ W00T! My dad's got a seminar to attend to in South Africa so he'll be gone for a week and can't do the teaching thingumwhatsits. Small favours...small favours...although I seriously hope he doesn't run into trouble over there.

And sorry to hear about your headache, Plushie. Don't you just hate it when you aren't sick enough to stay home but are still too sick to call yourself cured? I know I do...-.- Well, hope you get better soon. ^^

Oh, and it looks like we won't get too see the secret of Railey's arena either. Bleah, I'd have thought that she'd go for a Rain Dance to counter that since it would kind of have removed most of the heat and made the eruption rocks more...well, Rock Smashable.

IC:

Railey's expression grew ever more triumphant as Fishy failed in his attempt at a Foresight, however, the smirk vanished just as quickly as it had arrived as the Mudkip's choice of Camerupt had turned out to be the correct one, the water-streaked tackling attack striking the genuine camel pokémon square in the chest, disrupting his focus from both the Double Team and the Eruption attack that he had maintained and knocking him a bit backwards. Despite the weakness, the blow had been far from fatal however, as both the Camerupt's Amnesia and the drought caused by the Sunny Day attack took their toll on the damage deal and the Camerupt soon regained his composure, now looking slightly present and very much annoyed.

"Camerupt!" Railey growled, his expression even more aggrevated than that of his pokémon, "You've got that little squirt right where we want him! Howl and Double Edge!"

The aggrevated camel pokémon was qucik to oblige, letting out a cry far more aggressive than those before and proceeding to take what little distance was available for him before charging towards Fishy at full speed, apparently intent on knocking the Mudkip clean off the arena.

Jena's expression brightened as Fishy struck the correct Camerupt. The Mudkip had actually chosen the right one, that was just..lucky. Things were looking up, even if it was for a short period of time. Railey's Camerupt was charging towards Fishy.

"Come on, Kayley! Fishy! You guys can do it! Teach that person a lesson for what he did to Kaika!"Jena clenched her fists as she closed her eyes, resisting the urge to cheer them on. They couldn't lose their concentration now, someone who could do that to a Pokemon surely wouldn't be able to have good relationships with his current team. Kayley and Fishy had an advantage, hopefully.

OOC:

Yup. I'm still sick. -.- My headache went away, but you see, I also had a stuffy nose which failed to go away because I was remaining active at school. So.. the unmerciful congestion moved to my chest. So now I have a cough that just won't go away~! ;.;

As soon as Physics stopped bothering Titan, too. xD

Bleh, I shall stop complaining now. So anyways, since you really wanted to unveil the secret of Railey's arena, I shall not rain on your parade. Well, technically I am, but still..

IC:

Kayley had put on a triumphant grin when Fishy had actually managed to strike the real Camerupt. However, Railey's next set of instructions quickly wiped the grin away. Double-Edge? Even if Fishy was able to dodge it, the Camerupt would just turn around and hit him anyways. Kayley, now sweating profusely, basically had no time to add onto those thoughts. All she could do was widen her eyes as the Camerupt charged, and instantly give another command.

"Fishy!" Kayley shouted. "Jump on his head! Rain Dance!"

Fishy, having remained where he had landed after the Waterfall, resisted the urge to grin, which was especially easy since that big dude was now charging straight at him with full power. The Mudkip took a mere moment to bend his knees and wag his tail, taking to the air in the blink of an eye.

In moments the Mud Fish had landed with precision on his opponent's head, grinning from ear to ear now that he had gotten the jump out of the way. He instantly began glowing a faint shade of light blue, wagging his tail as he began summoning rain to the arena.

OOC:

I've always fancied the idea of riding atop a rampaging Camerupt. xD

OOC: Like, yayness for the piccies! I can see them now! ^0^

Oh, but sorry about your cough, Plushie...get better soon, yes? Wait, did I already say that? o.O Meh, doesn't matter, I still felt like I should say that again. ^^

And pwhee! I get to play around with Railey's arena after all! ^^ Oh, and it's actually worthwhile from Fishy's point of view, because...

IC:

"Wha-?" Railey's jaw almost dropped in surprise as he noticed the ease with which Fishy had not only dodged the Double Edge attack but also managed to land on the, now rather confused, Camerupt's head. He grew all the more triumphant as Kayley ordered a Rain Dance, however.

Rai's eyes narrowed in suspicion as he noticed the gym leader's expression, in fact, it looked like he was...laughing? Had he gotten completely unhinged?

"What's so funny?" Rai asked, unable to contain the question.

Railey merely smirked at him as the raindrops began pouring down, "You'll see soon enough, tinkerbell..." he replied, "In fact, you'll see right about...now."

At the end of the gym leader's sentence, Rai finally noticed a hissing sound emanating from the black rocks surrounding the battlefield and constantly growing in intensity, in queue with the temperature.

The boy flinched a bit as the heat in the room intensified further, despite the lack of sunlight, and thick clouds of black smoke began rising up from all around the combatants, soon engulfing the battlefield alltogether.

"What's the matter, blondie?" Railey taunted from somewhere behind the veil, "Can't take the heat? Camerupt! Shake that runt of with Magnitude then knock it out with a Rock Slide!"

Yet another battlecry was unleashed from within the smoke, the battleground trembling once more as the camel pokémon attempted to shake his troublesome opponent off before the Camerupt himself began trembling once more, preparing to spew out a barrage of rocks from within the humps of his back.

OOC: This, of course, only occurs in the old fashioned saunas. Incidentally, the black smoke is a form of active carbon and kills bacteria like no-one's bussiness.[/Pointless Trivia]

OOC:

So.. how does the Camerupt plan on aiming for Fishy? xD

Yar.

Unless the smoke is only around the arena, so it's just that the Trainers can't see 'em?

Right, I may have to edit this post.. o.o

IC:

Fishy didn't ease up on his grin in the least, happy that he had gotten the chance to perform a Rain Dance. He had no idea why all that smoke was appearing, but for the most part he didn't really care. However, his grin was soon wiped away anyway as Railey's Camerupt began using Magnitude. With a yelp, Fishy was soon forced off of the Camerupt despite his efforts to remain there, and in moments he was back on the ground, just as the Camerupt prepared for another Rock Slide.

Kayley bit her lip in an attempt to block out the total discomfort she was experiencing due to the increase in heat. She had no idea what to do now, since she couldn't see where Fishy was through all that black smoke. She could assume that Fishy had fallen off of the Camerupt because of that familiar yelp, so..

"Fishy! Water Gun, and then try another Waterfall!" Kayley commanded. She certainly hoped that her Mudkip, unlike her, was able to see the opponent.

And so Fishy did as he was told, a battle-frown appearing on his face as he inhaled. In an instant he had fired a round of Water Gun towards the Camerupt, but he did not wait for it to strike. Instead, the Mudkip fired a second Water Gun in the air, which he soon coated himself with before he began charging towards the Camerupt as before.

OOC: He doesn't, he's planning to just fire rocks at random until they strike, because odds are that Fishy won't be able to dodge either. And nope, it's not just surrounding, it's covering the whole arena. Oh, and wouldn't it be just a wee bit hard to inhale for a Water Gun with all that smoke in the air? o.o

IC:

From his side of the smoke mass, Railey continued staring intently at the place where he had last spotted the two combatants, and even though his eyes didn't really see any more than anyone else's, he could hear Kayley's commands loud and clear.

"Camerupt!" he called out, "Forget about the Rock Slide! Block that Water Gun with Protect then finish that little critter off with an Earthquake!"

Within the smoke, Railey's Camerupt was blind as a bat, his eyes staring towards the place where he thought that the Mudkip was with tired anger as he fired stone after stone up into the air. As the commands came, the camel pokémon promptly stopped however, immediately putting up a green barrier of energy, similar to the one Fishy had used but far bigger, and allowed it to remain in front of him for as long as he could manage, irrelevant of whether the ordered Water Gun was heading his way or not, before rising up to his hind legs and slamming down on the ground once more, yet another shockwave surging through the arena in all directions.

OOC: Yayness! The pictures work! Aww... they're so cute together! That is like the sweetest thing I've ever seen! ^-^

And thanks for the compliments on the piccie. ^^

I'm one of the judges for this month's art contest in the art forum (again XD)! This month's theme is starter pokemon. You guys should enter! We need more participation in that thing!! I'm also making the banner pictures for the winners. ^^ I'm wondering what pokemon I should put on them....

Zachary
===========

"Huh... this battle is getting, urk, crazy!" Zachary coughed a bit, the smoke being the source of his cough. He couldn't wait to see what surprises were in-store for the rest of Kayley's battle and Rai's too. Kayley was trying so hard... he sincerely hoped that she would win over Railey. Not to mention he still had this feeling of hate for the guy, and wanted see him to get pummeled by something.

Ron squinted, not being able to see a thing. At one moment he thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye, but it turned out to only be Maxie, standing there watching the battle. {I hate this stuff!} Ron said in frustration, closing his eyes. Smoke was so... annoying.

{ooc| That picture's brilliant, Melissa, but I think I've already said this to you at least once. xD ^^;
I still have nothing really to post in here.}

Fang screeched cheerfully. {It's no problem for me!} he told Ron cheerfully. {My sonar can see straight through it, as easy as-}
Maxie grabbed her bat by the tail and yanked him back on her shoulder. "Stop showing off!" she hissed.

OOC:

Oh dear, this won't do. ;;

*huggles Showgan and gives it this post*

IC:

Kayley frowned. Fishy couldn't dodge the Earthquake if he couldn't see it, so commanding a dodge would be totally futile. What was she supposed to do now? In the few seconds that her brain could afford to think over the matter, she came to the conclusion of striking Railey's Camerupt with an attack that required a jump.

Wait.

That meant that Fishy would have to pinpoint the Camerupt first. So..

"Fishy!" Kayley called out, pausing to cough because of the smoke around her. "Stop and use F-Foresight, then jump towards Camerupt and continue your Waterfall!"

Fishy completely halted in his tracks, still coated in his own Water Gun, and also the rain that was still falling to floor. It took much will power to resist the urge to drop his jaw in shock. {What is Kay-Kay thinking? Fishy can't do that..!}

"I know what you're thinking! But if you don't, then the Earthquake will hit you!" Kayley shouted through the smoke, knowing that her Mudkip hadn't started yet.

Gritting his teeth with doubt, Fishy grimaced before attempting another Foresight. His eyes shortly began to glow, but as before, the light didn't last very long, and the glow flickered on and off as he tried to properly use the attack. He was about to give up and go for a blind Waterfall, but, as he was on the verge of doing just that, a rather large and intimidating silhouette appeared before him, almost where he had last seen Railey's Camerupt. In fact, the silhouette did appear to be shaped like a Camerupt..

{Nope. It's my imagination.} The Water-type thought to himself, although he wondered why the silhouette didn't fade out of view when he ended his attempt at Foresight. {But.. it's all Fishy gots right now.}

Unfortunately, in pausing for these thoughts, Fishy had forgotten about the commanded Earthquake, and in moments the Mudkip was feeling the power of the earth beneath his feet, yelping in shock as he began shaking about. Immediately wanting to get off of the ground before he was forced to take more damage, Fishy bent his knees and took off, sailing towards the Camerupt silhouette that he sincerely hoped wasn't imaginary in a continuation of his previous Waterfall, which had now gone aerial.

OOC:

Okay, so it's not much strategically, but I feel kinda bad for making Melissa, Charon, Yibber and Flissie wait so long. xD Besides, I wouldn't want my headache coming back.. x3

And.. since I didn't wanna completely dodge, I just made it so that Fishy took part of the attack, then headed for the shadow he'd seen.. yeah..

It's good to be back..

OOC: Yeah, we've been holding this up for long enough. I'll just play both parties of Rai's battle so that it's over in a couple of posts, m'kay? ^^

IC:

Railey scoffed at Kayley's commands, "You're wasting your time, girlie." he remarked, "That pathetic little fish couldn't Foresight his way out of wet paper bag! Camerupt! Double Edge straight forward!"

The camel pokémon let out another loud cry for good measure in acknowledgement of the command, stamping the ground a few times like a bull preparing to charge before rushing forward into the veil of smoke with his head lowered. What the Camerupt hadn't anticipated, however, was that his own Earthquake had knocked the target a good bit aside from the spot where the Mudkip had been before, and so, when the water-coated Fishy suddenly came charging from behind the camel pokémon was caught completely off guard, the powerful impact combined with his own speed knocking the fire type forward in an uncontrolable sprint.

A loud cry of pain became audible from within the smoke, just as Fishy's Rain Dance started to subsidize, resulting in a few anxious minutes of staring into the thinning veil of smoke until the last wisps suddenly vanished into the air, revealing Railey's Camerupt lying on the edge of the battlefield, the camel pokémon's hefty bulk trembling with the strain of attempting to remain upright until he finally gave up, sinking to his knees with one last, weak moan, KOed.

For a moment, Railey just gaped at the scene, his mouth open but unable to phrase up a proper sentence;

"I-That's not-You couldn't-You-" the gym leader turned to glare at Kayley as he scooped up his unconscious pokémon, "You were just lucky, that's all!" he spat out, "That victory was pure fluke and nothing else! But rules are rules..." he cast a distasteful glance at the floor as he reached in beneath his sweater once more, retrieving a small object which he hurled over to Kayley. It was a piece of gold-coloured metal, oval shaped with a miniature image of an erupting volcano, this one red in colour, located in the middle.

"That's the energy badge, in case you didn't know." he remarked in a tone that still failed to be anything but bitter, "Proof of your luck, as it were. But don't get kocky..." he added, "The other leaders will put you in your place, and your luck won't last forever."

Rai frowned at the gym leader, What a sore looser... he thought with distaste, shaking his head as he stepped forward to the battlefield, Kaika walking up beside him with a surprisingly determined stride.

"Luck, eh?" he inquired, finally catching Railey's attention again, "To me it seemed more like you messed up."

"Say what?" the gym leader inquired, rage quickly entering his expression as he turned his full attention to the boy.

"You heard me." Rai continued calmly, picking up one of the pokéballs on his belt and weighing it tentatively in his hand, "And quite frankly, I didn't expect anything more from someone who loses even with a type advantage."

"Are you blind as well as daft, prettyboy?!" Railey spat out, glaring at him, "I didn't have a type advantage!"

"You did..." Rai replied calmly, "When you challenged Kingsfield gym..." a small smile spread across his face as he continued, plumbing his mind for the memory of that battle, long ago... "Didn't you loose six, zero...against a team of Ice types?"

"Wha-?!" Railey took a step back, his anger building further, "That's-how did you know-" he cut himself of in mid-sentence, his eyes narrowing, "Oh, I get it..." he suddenly continued, his expression calming, "You're Isabel's brat, aren't you?"

Now it was Rai's turn to be surprised, his face paling slightly at the mention of the name, "I...don't know what you're talking about." he protested, but the words sounded hollow even to him.

"Oh, but I think you do..." Railey continued, his old smirk returning with a vengeance, "Those blue eyes...the light skin colour...that constant pretense of superiority in your facial expression...oh, don't bother denying it." the gym leader continued, noting that Rai attempted to protest, "And by the looks of it you haven't told your little friends here about it either." the boy continued, relishing his opponent's weak moment, "My...my...haven't you been a naughty little boy..."

"Shut up!" Rai growled, his face now reddened with anger and his hand clutching the pokéball tightly, "That woman is not my mother!"

"Oh, whatever you need to tell yourself..." Railey replied, shrugging, "It will be all the more fun to send you off with your tail between your legs. Now what's that?" he added, smirking at Rai's anger and the way in which he held onto the pokéball in his hand, "You're just dying to use that, aren't you?" he pulled out yet another pokéball from beneath his sweater, "Two-on-two, do your worst, princess!"

"You can bet that I will..." Rai replied darkly, "Ashura! I choose you!" he quickly flung the pokéball onto his side of the battlefield, the Scyther emerging in a flash of white light and quickly surveying her surroundings, here eyes narrowing slightly as she focused on the battle to come.

"This is almost too easy..." Railey commented, shaking his head, "Magcargo! Stamp that pesky little bug out!"

As the second pokéball struck the battlefield, the slug pokémon, apparently a female, materialized on Railey's side, blinking slightly in confusion before she caught onto the situation, at which point she took up a determined expression as well, staring down her opponent.

OOC: Pluuuushie! Glad to see you back! Yayness, we can get on with Showgan now! ^-^

Zachary
============

"Kayley won...?!" Zachary said in half-surprise. It wasn't that he didn't think Kayley was good enough to have won, he just had his doubts about Fishy going against that huge pokemon. He was certainly happy for her; for more reasons than because she got a badge. He was glad to see the shocked and quite angry expression of Railey.

Suddenly the battle shifted attention to Rai and Railey, and it shifted to Rai's... mother? Isabel was his mother? Isabel the gym leader?! Zachary tried to act as if this didn't matter to him in the least, but he couldn't stop his mind from thinking about this too much. This certainly explained Rai's proper way of manners and such, and it also explained his reasons for disliking his mother. When Railey had brough up the fact that Rai hadn't told them of this, Zachary felt a twinge of anger.

"Quit smirking about yourself Railey, I for one don't care that Rai never told us. It doesn't change anything, so don't worry about that Rai," he said, his attnetion shifting from Railey to Rai as he spoke. He wanted Rai to crush this guy, not be worrying about what he should or should not have told them.

Ron frowned, {This guy's really annoying.}

Fishy, after realizing that Railey's Camerupt had been knocked out, nearly forgot to hurry off of the battlefield. Of course, when he did remember, he was in no rush to leave the field right away, pausing to shout towards the Camerupt before he was returned.

{Oh yeah. No smoothie for you-ou~!} Fishy exclaimed in a sing-song voice, sticking his tongue out at his fallen opponent before turning around and strutting back towards his Trainer.

As for Kayley, she too almost forgot that it was Rai's turn to battle, resulting in a rather awkward catch of the Energy Badge. Oh, but it had been so worth it.. to see that expression on Railey's face. She wasn't about to say anything regarding Railey's comments, though; she was in no mood to start anything with that.. guy.

Pocketing the badge within her jacket, since she didn't really have time to put it somewhere better, Kayley bent down to pick up her trumpet case from its spot on the floor (apparently it hadn't suffered any damage in the least), then proceeded to move away from the battlefield as Rai took the stage.

As Fishy arrived at her side, however, Kayley paused as Rai and Railey began talking about Isabel. She's his mother? She thought, as Zach shouted out words of reassurance. Hmm, that actually makes sense.. I wonder why he didn't really talk about it before.

OOC: Meh, sorry for not posting yesterday...I was caught up in a lit. analysis assignment for Swedish and ran out of time. Feeling so sleepy today...*Yawns* ~_~ Oh well, I'll post all the same.

Incidentally, what has become of Yibber? Or Flissie for that matter? I swear it's a curse or something...always someone missing from here. o.o

Despite feeling far from comfortable about the current situation, Rai couldn't help breaking a smile as Zachary spoke up in his defense, although the boy couldn't entirely shake off the nagging suspicion that Zachary was merely saying that to wipe away Railey's smirk rather than because he actually believed it. Still, Rai wasn't exactly in a position to be picky about allies and friends.

"I...thanks Zach..." Rai said, giving the other boy a grateful smile before turning his attention back to the task at hand.

"Aww...looks like the little fairy princess has a boyfriend..." Railey remarked in a drawling voice, "Ain't that just too precious?"

Rai gave the gym leader an irritated glare, out of all the bratty things-

"If you are quite done with your little fantasies, Railey..." he said in a cold tone which was hauntingly resemblant of Isabel's, "Could we get this battle started already?"

"Aww...did I ruffle the peacock's feathers?" the other boy continued in a taunting voice before shaking his head, "Enough of this nonsense, it's time I put you into your place once and for all! Magcargo! Defense Curl and Rollout!"

The slug pokémon, who had been mostly spacing out until then, took up a bit of a more alert pose, quickly retreating into the confines of her shell before suddenly springing herself into the air with all her might, the rock-covered shell beginning to roll across the floor much like a wheel, small chips of rock dislodging from the shell now and again and flying off in various directions.

Noticing the attack, Rai quickly blocked out his opponent's voice from his mind and focused on the battle instead. Granted, Ashura was a skilled and powerful pokémon, but a double type disadvantage was a serious handicap and he really couldn't afford many mistakes;

"Ashura!" the boy called out, "Agility and Double Team!"

The mantis pokémon gave a curt nod in acknowledgement, dashing straight towards her approaching opponent with blinding speed but jumping up into the air just before they came into contact, the mantis pokémon briefly turning into nothing more than a blurr, only to reappear as no less than eight images which landed in a complete circle around the now rather confounded Magcargo who had now stopped to peer out of her shell once more.

"Now Swords Dance and Steel Wing!"

The eight replicate Ashuras immediately took up moving in such complex patterns that they were, if possible, even more dizzying and confusing to watch than before, the real mantis pokémon rapidly gathering up power to strike before finally charging forward, the identical replicates joining in and attacking the slug pokémon from all sides.

"Now Magcargo!" Railey ordered in return, "Weed out the illusions with Overheat!"

Rai's eyes widened slightly at the order, "Ashura!" he called out, "Forget about the Steel Wing! Leap back now!"

The order had truly come at the last minute, as the Magcargo had already started drawing the heat which was available in abundance in her surroundings, the slug pokémon's whole body glowing and trembling with energy before she had reached her limit, unleashing all of the gathered heat in one devastating blast which spread out in all directions, striking most of the fleeing illusions and shattering them. Much to Rai's relief, the real Ashura had made it through however, landing a few meters away and only seeming to have been slightly singed by the heat and looking all the more eager for a fight, the mantis pokémon's features now bearing a truly fierce expression.

"Not too shabby, tinkerbell." Railey remarked, "Let's see you dodge this...Magcargo! Yawn and then Overheat again!"

The slug pokémon quickly snapped out of the daze that the attack had left her in, inhaling deeply before letting out a wide yawn towards Ashura, the mantis pokémon's expression immediately growing sleepier, even though she fought against it to the best of her ability.

Rai bit his lip...what was he to do now? Ashura had no way of reversing the Yawn attack now that it had already struck, and once the Scyther fell asleep she would be a sitting duck.

"Ashura-" the boy began at last, but before he had the time to give his command the Scyther had already set out on her own accord, charging straight towards the Magcargo with her wings spread wide, even as the slug pokémon had started gathering up heat once more.

"Ashura!" Rai repeated, now beginning to panic "Don't-!"

But it was already too late, the Scyther had made contact with her foe, striking the fire type hard with a Steel Wing attack, the slug pokémon flinching at the pain but maintaining her focus and unleashing another tremendous burst of heat, although this one was not quite as powerful as the last one, the blast briefly obscuring the combatants from view and forcing Rai to blink.

"Whoa..." Railey remarked, for once actually seeming just a bit frightened by what his pokémon could cause, "How could I have known that it was so stupid?"

"Ashura!" Rai called out once again, lacking the words for anything more specific as he anxiously scanned the battlefield for his pokémon, only to find her...standing?

{I'm...allright..} the mantis pokémon managed in reply, trembling slightly as she stood up, but still looking ready for a fight, a slightly manic grin spread across the mantis pokémon's face as she flinched slightly at the various deep burns on her body.

"But..." the boy continued, still looking nonplused, "The yawn...how did you-" he took a pause, finally realizing...it was the burn! The pain was keeping Ashura from falling asleep! She must have somehow calculated that it was worth the risk. Rai couldn't help smiling in pride at her pokémon's achievement, worried sick though he had been.

{Spare your speeches.} Ashura cut in before the boy could phrase his emotions, {And let's finish this.}

Rai nodded, turning to face the now rather shocked-looking Railey and his even more shocked-looking Magcargo.

"Ashura! Swords Dance and Reversal!"

The Scyther made no show of acknowledgement this time, merely charging forward in a mesmerizing show of mobility once more before slamming straight into the Magcargo, exploiting the weakest spot of the slug pokémon's body to its fullest, the fire type letting out a pathetic squeal as she was flung through the air, colliding with the wall behind Railey with a dull 'splat' sound and then slowly dribbling down it, KOed.

"No!" Railey called out, looking just about ready to pull out his own hair as he rushed to recall his fainted pokémon.

Rai ignored him, merely walking out into the scorched battlefield and quickly heading to support his Scyther.

"Ashura..." the boy repeated quietly, "You really didn't need to-"

The mantis pokémon scoffed weakly, giving the boy a tired grin, {Of course I did...} she replied, {It's not like I was going to let Chupon or Kaika take that thing on.}

The Vulpix, who had been silently following Rai this far, froze as he heard these words, his eyes widening.

{You...you bes sacrificings yourself for little Kaika?} he asked in a voice choked with emotion, {That-that bes-}

{S-sacrifice nothing.} Ashura interrupted as briskly as she could manage, {I survived and one trip to the pokémon center will make me good as new so there was no sacrifice. Don't start thinking that you owe me anything.}

{Y-yes ma'm...} Kaika replied, {Erm...Kaika meanings no, m'am.} he added in a slightly puzzled voice {That is...Kaika meanings...}

"He means to say 'thank you'." Rai noted, believeing that he had a fairly good grasp of what was being said, "Ashura, you'd better return before that burn gets any worse."

The Scyther nodded in response, making no resistance as Rai pulled out the pokéball again and pointed it towards her.

{Just promise...} she said, just before the beam struck, {Promise to teach that twerp a lesson.}
