OOC: Maxie running off? You know, this could actually be...fortitious. Yeees...with her out of the way we can get a bit more NK action as well. Nyuk, nyuk, yeeesss...I think that this turn of events was a good one indeed, good from a plot development perspective at least. >D
IC:
It all happened a bit too fast for Rai's tired mind; the re-appearance of the Nidoran, the pained scream from Maxie, and finally...the revealing of her hand. And what a hand indeed, much like Zachary, Rai was experiencing serious problems with not staring at it, it was so...so utterly vile that it held a peculiar kind of nauseating attraction, the kind which attracts crowds to freak shows and nasty accidents, and for several moments, Rai found himself simply standing there, feeling an increasing urge to vomit while at the same time being unable to tear his eyes away from the sight. Such a horrible wound...he couldn't even begin to imagine how it had to feel to go through life with something like that. What had happened? Surely the Nidoran's bite could have accomplished such damage? No, of course not, no venom acted that fast and especially not if there had been a thick glove in between. Whatever had caused that had had a long time to fester. But why? Why hadn't Maxie had that treated before it got so bad? Only Jena's uncertain call made the boy snap back into the present, just in time to watch Maxie depart.
"Maxie!" he finally managed to call after her, feeling a terrible sting of guilt within himself. Why had she left? Was it his fault, because he had stared so openly? Why had he stared? Why oh why had his ever constant companion, social ettiquette, suddenly chosen to abandon him when it was most essential that it wouldn't? "Maxie!" he repeated, "Wait! Come back!" the boy would have broken off into a run, but he was tired and already knew that it was too late. The girl had already run off to goodness knows where, and even if Rai had known where she would have gone, he seriously doubted that he'd have had any chance of catching up with her on foot, and Ashura was in no condition to help.
"That was..." Rai said quietly, staring off into the distance, "That was just...I shouldn't have...it was wrong to..." he gave a sigh of forfeit, giving the others a helpless look, "What should we do?" he asked at last, "That-that wound...it's so...we can't just..." he gave another sigh, dropping down to a crouch. What should we do? he wondered for himself, What on earth should we do?
