Snatch + Baton Pass?

    I was pondering over a move set for a Baton Passer, and I thought of the interesting idea of using the Snatch move instead. In effect, you steal the stat boosts of the opponent, they don't recieve the benefits, then you can BP to your sweepers...

    Anyone have any clue about any Pokemon which can learn these two moves? May or may not work in actual battle, but it's an interesting idea to try...
     
    chances of snatch working for a baton passer is very low... baton passers generally aren't very good in defense, so the opponent will most likely prefer to just sweep you instead of buff up against someone else who can possibly buff up.

    Thanks.. I was really hoping Umbreon was one of them (I knew they could get Snatch, wasn't sure about BP). Not all Snatch BPers have such low defence, it seems.

    Ok, how's this for a move set for Umbreon

    Umbreon @ Leftovers
    Snatch
    Baton Pass
    Bite
    HP Psychic

    Leftovers helps you stay in the fight while you Snatch the buff, then you can Baton Pass over to your team. Not sure about the HP though, may drop it for Confuse Ray instead (so he becomes a semi-annoyer as well, with confuse + occasional flinch from Bite).
     
    I'm iffy on both moves. Definately have recovery for this great mon, uh... Moonlight or rest. Confuse ray also sound like a better idea than HP psychic, and since Umbreon has like no speed, flinching with bite isn't really an option...
     
    Yeah, I was thinking Moonlight, but with Umbreon's high defence and sp defence, plus Leftovers, the only thing he has to really worry about is Fighting types.

    At least give it substitute instead of Bite so you?ll have something to pass even if they don?t have a single stat upper in their team for one reason or another. =\
     
    I personally prefer rest... I'm toxic paranoid o.o; and umbreon using bite is still a bad idea... even with full EV in sp.atk it's still a terrible attacker along with STAB. No stats in it at all plus personality nerfing down sp.atk is going to be nothing more than a tickle for the enemy. Even an Alakazam will survive that... o.o;
     
    I considered Rest, but I'd prefer Umbreon to be awake to actually Snatch the boost :-p

    After Kairi's suggestion, a better idea seems to be...

    Provided you don't get toxiced to death or have some other wacky status affliction stopping you, that set doesn't look that bad =/
     
    I love this originality, but it will be tough to pull off. I hope it works for you. Status will be your worst enemy, but that is sorta avoidable.
     
    it will be tough, as the only advantage u seem to hav is if they decide to boost their stats while u hav ur substitute up. and even though umbreon has good def. and sp. def, w/ the sub. taking some of ur HP, they may just decide to, like Frosty mentioned, send out a staller and build off the damage from sub by toxicing (which i'm not sur if moonlight can heal). most stallers don't hav status building attacks, so that could mean trouble. none the less, hope u can manage and pray that they decide to use a lot of calm minds.
     
    well at least you can retaliate by using toxic at the enemy too through syn? o_O;

    Most of the time, you'll either see...

    a) people like me who realize that Umbreon can't do junk except to rely on mean look or baton pass, so send out pseudohazer immediately to roar you away

    b) the Kairi type of people who just sends out a Metagross out there and punch away regardless of mean look or double team baton pass (I don't understand her on this one)

    ^_^; Umbreon got such a good reputation for baton passing, that it lures out pseudohazer/sweeper more than another stat buff user...
     
    They can rest/Refresh off the status, but Umbreon can't so Syncro really doesn't do much =/
