1st Gen So I got my hands on an authentic pokemon green...

Japanese Green is generally English Blue with different sprites.

If you wanted something different, you should have bought Japanese Blue. It's the TRUE unreleased (outside Japan) game.
Actually, no. The international releases of Pokemon (Pokemon Red & Blue) were translated off of the Japanese Blue. The Japanese Blue version is EXACTLY THE SAME as Pokemon Red & Blue. The only differences between the Japanese Blue version and the International Red & Blue versions are the Pokemon that appear, and the language. Yes, those are the ONLY differences.

Here's what Red/Green looks like:

Look familiar?

To clarify, let's pretend that Pokemon Diamond/Pearl was never released in countries other than Japan, and Japan already got Platinum. Now let's also pretend that they wanted to finally release Diamond/Pearl, what they would do is take Platinum, change the Pokemon, translate it, and then release it in America as Diamond/Pearl.

Now in the above paragraph, change "Diamond/Pearl" into "Red/Green", and change "Platinum" into "Blue". Change the last two words in the paragraph into "Red/Blue".

Basically, they took Pokemon Blue, the original 3rd version, and used it for translation. That's why I don't view Yellow as the 3rd version, I view it as a spin-off. IMO, the true 3rd versions are Blue, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum.

Yellow was not a spin off so much as pokemon pinball, pokemon statium and all the other games. I think yellow is just the 4th in the generation. Just because it was never done in further generations doesn't mean it should be catigorized as a spin off.

Its practically the same game!! Just different pokemon a different starter, and pikachu follows you like a creepy stalker.

Hey, I have a legit Green and everything from the box, 1st edition, and I just beat Erika if there's anything someone needs me to test. I'm free almost 24/7 for now, so if you want something I can do it and respond quickly.
Just so you know, ChrisTom, the cat/mouse thing is not true.

And for the Japanese Blue thing, US Red/Blue is Japanese Blue with the in-game trades and version exclusives of JP Red/Green.
In JP Blue the guy in Cinnabar Island wants a Kadabra for his Graveler (or Machoke, I forget) and in JP Red/Green he wants a Raichu for his Electrode. Because US Red/Blue has the translated text from JP Blue and the in-game trades from JP Red/Green, the text says "The RAICHU you gave me evolved!" but Raichu can't. That is because the text in JP Blue means Kadabra evolved, but you traded a Raichu.

........Confused yet?
EDIT: The save battery in my Green version just died, so testing stuff before Mt. Moon is the only possible thing now.

I hear that after fiighting everybody on the S.S. Anne, right before you leave, go back into the "Dining Hall" and you will see a man dressed up as a mouse/cat (hard to tell what really...) who will battle you. But I'm not sure myself.
That was a rumor created as a joke on Pokebeach earlier this year with the intention of parodying/homaging early PokeGod rumors. It's not real, though there was some "evidence" otherwise.

This thread details the method for replacing a dead battery for early carts, so if you want you can get full saving back.

I just bought pokemon Green,Red,Blue and Yellow from japan All C.I.B (complete in the box.). So If anyone wants scans of the manuals or pics of the Carts/Mobo feel free to ask.
Got it all for $50 shipped :P

I could do for scans of the manuals for my site, if you're up for it.

I recently bought Pokemon green from eBay and I was wondering if anyone else has this. Unlike my other Pokemon games that I have bought like yellow blue red, they couldn't do the tinted thing. By tinted thing I mean when you turn on the gameboy advance and push the d pad, the color would change to Blue, red, inverted ect., and for my Pokemon green I can do that. Thought it was weird, thinking my game is just a fake, is anyone else able to do this?

There is a Simple Questions Thread right in this board for that sort of questions, but please don't revive threads that have been inactive for over a month D: If you want to post an update, just create a new one!
