What is your personal belief in magic? Is it pseudo nonsense, or is it an actual force that binds us? Is it a good thing, a bad thing, or both?

I ask this not just because I've been listening to Katy Perry, but also because I've actually talked to a few people who believe in magic, two of them going as far as to say they've witnessed magic themselves.

Personally I don't believe such force exists, but I'm certainly open to the possibility. I treat it as a superstition, but should I come to encounter it, I'm more likely to stay away from the unknown and possible evil.

I'm a firm believer in the fact that most street perfromers are just exceptionally good at slight of hands movement and visual illusions that anyone could do if practiced enough.

I do believe magic exists, but I view it more as extremely advanced science that no one has figured out how to control and utilise yet.

Sometimes I wonder if I exist, too.

You know what, in my imagination magic would be a fantastic thing to exist. To a point where I'm pretty sure, if I could make it so, I would let everyone have magical powers.

However... I don't think it exists at the moment. Unless those who can use it are hiding extraordinarily well. Would magic even be a good thing for us to have in the world? Sure, some people would be able to make a positive difference and help people - but the majority of magic we see in TV and films is destructive, do we have any real need for that?

Magic is fake... The Bible days wizards, wiches, black magic, etc. are evil things and to stay away from them. Magic isn't real, anyways. I think magic tricks can be fun- because they are fake and obviously fake.

Magic is fun because you don't understand how it works, but there's always a trick that you don't see, and once you saw it, everything becomes obvious.
Very often when in a cartoon magic is present, it's considered as an evil thing, it's like the cartoon is saying "Kids, stay away from it: it's dangerous, and it doesn't even exist at all!".
Or at least, that's my opinion.

That sounds rather contradicting. How can the Bible say something that doesn't exist is evil?

I meant witches and stuff who try to do "magic". I should have put in quotes, my bad.

Magic is totally real. But the way we were discovering it was totally backwards like, we knew magic was a thing way back and then we started studying it but by the time we realised we were studying magic we were already calling it science.

I don't believe in magic, or anything supernatural, for that matter. There's just no evidence for any of it. Of course, as humans our knowledge and understanding is limited, so there have always been things that we haven't been able to explain, but in almost all cases they were proven to have naturalistic explanations.

The way he said it was kind of confusing. Basically, the Bible says that people who claimed to be magicians in their times were not to be trusted, because they were consulting demons or deceiving people and taking their money to perform various "magic" acts. The Bible simply warned against them because most of them were just trying to scam people, essentially a modern day psychic. It doesn't warn against magic tricks, like card tricks and those types of things. Such things are merely for mundane fun, and they provide enjoyment, they don't base their tricks on supernatural forces such as demons or evil spirits. Basically, card tricks and stuff like that isn't bad, but consulting a psychic is not a good idea, according to the Bible.

I personally don't believe in psychics, seers, or magic, but I don't mind if someone else has differing beliefs about such things, as I don't expect everyone to think the same ways I do. If you believe in magic, that's fine by me. Hopefully I clarified what he said a little for you though:)

Healing energies, or spiritual things aside, I believe that "magic" in the stereotypical sense doesn't exist. Fictional series like to play it up, and that's cool, and it would be neat if it existed in even one of those ways, buuuut I don't believe in it at all.

When you factor in energy, spirits, or things like that, that some people believe in in different ways, I wouldn't really call that magic.

It's obviously not real. I don't think I'd be able to take anyone who claimed otherwise seriously.

Sleight of hand and other manner of performance magic aren't nonsense, though. They're an artform and really, really cool.

    I laughed.

Isn't magic just the name for things that we don't understand yet? Weather was magic until we understood that it was a complicated set of mechanisms caused by variables like heat, water, humidity, ect. Just an example. What about electromagnetism, which we now believe is carried by little particles according to the Standard Model?
