Something just popped up in my head not too long ago. When I noticed how there was some closed threads in the CQ&F forum, it made me come up with an idea of using prefixes in creating new threads that have the prefix "ROM Hacking Question" or "Game Question", and when the prefix is selected, it could then disable the message area when it is used and display a message saying something like "Looking for ROM Hacking Help? Click here for the ROM Hacking Simple Questions Thread".

Ah, that also made me think that having even more prefixes with a message for directing the user to, like "Emulation Question" and many more that anyone can think of. :o

And I wonder... if making the "(no prefix)" come up with a message saying "Please select a prefix" in the CQ&F forum could help alongside the prefixes that come up with a message to direct them to the right forum or thread?

I wonder if this could become useful? I also wonder if it is possible to do this in vBulletin? Because to be honest, there are some things that I don't know about the vBulletin codings.

I would like to hear everyone's comments on this. ^^

Thing is, if they're not smart enough to see the large notices at the top of the forum, then I think the chances of them clicking a prefix are pretty low. It's a nice idea, but yeah, I don't see it being of use tbh. People just simply can't read sometimes and injecting a prefix system probably won't do any good. Though that's not saying if it can be coded that it shouldn't be done, but meh the usefulness of it is questionable, that's all.

There's a big notice that talks about ROM hacking.
Although the idea is pretty neat, it's kind of unneeded.

What I've actually realized... is that if the user is prompted to select a prefix, they would also have to select the one that they know is relivent to their question. And of course, this doesn't involve in removing the "(no prefix)" from the list, the "(no prefix)" will act as something that tells you to select a prefix. So if the user is prompted in that sort of way, it's a low chance that they'll end up selecting "New Problem" or something else like that.

If it is successful, then it would cut down the ammount of threads that don't belong in the CQ&F forum.

They aren't prompted to select a prefix, and I think that forcing them to select a prefix would cause more hassle than what's needed. This is a nice idea but honestly I think that if they don't see the notice then that's their fault. Besides, the amount of threads like that seem to have been cut down lately anyway...
