    [PokeCommunity.com] Sonic The Hedgehog Discussion

We've all heard of this speedy hero. Amazingly fast, dashing blue fur, and quite the personality. Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the most iconic characters in all of video gaming, and one of SEGA's most popular series. It all began in 1991, when the first game was released. In the beginning, the games were primarily platformers, but later on they branched into other genres like action-adventure, fighting, role-playing, racing, and others. Even with all the fame the series has, it did experience a downfall a few years ago with some negatively-viewed games, one of the most recognizable being Sonic 06. Since then, SEGA has worked on reviving the level of gaming that they set for fans in the more popular additions to Sonic, and continue to develop games for this hedgehog today. Share all your thoughts on Sonic in this thread!

If you'd like, here's a topic: What's been your favorite Sonic game?

    Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
The story line was amazing, and the greatest part was getting the stuff for your Chao's and leveling them up and stuff. Greatest Game I've ever played, I think.
    Also, the music was phenominal.

Sonic Heros for the GameCube has been my favorite for years. It's the only Sonic game I've ever finished (with each team, too :P). I really liked the level designs and their themes, especially the Jungle and Casino levels. I think I would like Unleashed more, but I've only played a third of it...

Completely forgot that I owned Colors until a couple minutes ago, so... I think I've only played it for an hour :(

Sonic Generations is my favorite game from the series. It has great gameplay and graphics and such, but what makes it a masterpiece is that it refers to all of our favorite levels and characters from previous Sonic games. Sonic Generations has everything that we love about Sonic, from past and present. My favorite stage from this game is Planet Wisp, which debuted in Sonic Colors. My favorite boss is Time Eater. He's very different than all of the other Sonic bosses that we've seen before.

My all times favorite Sonic game is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. At the risk of repeating what Curtis talli already said, the level design is fun, the music is great, the game is replayable, and it has two games' worth of content (I know, physically, it's two games, but it started out as one before being split in two) . I love replaying it from time to time.

Sonic CD is a close second, especially the recent remake that fixed most problems the original had. I know I'm probably the only one, but I enjoy looking for robot generators and Metal Sonic holograms, the time travel is done well, and both soundtracks are pretty good.

    In the 3D department:
The Adventure titles I thought were pretty good. Having recently replayed them, I can honestly say I still enjoy them.
Heroes as well, I thought this game did very well what the Adventure titles never did: bridging the gap between the 2D titles and the 3D titles in terms of structure and gameplay.
Sonic 2006... I actually bought it earlier this year out of sheer curiosity that was building up for years, and I'll be honest: I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would, I even enjoyed some of it, but the fact that it was rushed really showed, and the story was... just bad.
I played both versions of Sonic Unleashed (on PS3 and Wii), and to be honest I preferred the low-def version. Sure, it had less content, but it also had no medal hunting, no over reliance on QTEs, and the Wiimote+Nunchuk actually made the Werehog gameplay quite enjoyable.
Colors and Generations... nothing to say, I loved them both from start to finish.

On the subject of Sonic 2006, I found a review of it on Youtube that, IMO, did an amazing job tearing the game apart. OK, it's 3.5 hours long (7 parts) , but IMO it's entertaining from beginning to end, obviously more entertaining than the game itself. If you have patience and tolerance for occasional strong language and a verbal tic or two, here's the link: "ClementJ642 reviews Sonic 2006".
