It's likely any sort of area like that will be expanded. The way GameFreak now structure their events for their legendaries (since Generation 4) we've seen more of a story attached. In Generation 3, you kind of hop on a ship, walk up a stairs, see a Legendary Pokémon. There was no real quest about it, and I think we'll see that change. I reckon they learned from their mistakes when it comes to event Pokémon, if you look at how much more went into Darkrai's story when you go to meet it, you see that the direction GameFreak have started to go in involves a lot more "events" to the event Pokémon. The same goes for Victini and so on.

We may not see an expansion of Southern Island (or any of the event areas), so to speak, but I reckon we'll see the events surrounding them fleshed out a bit better.

I think Generation IV handled their events the best. We could capture them ingame (after obtaining an item of course) and battle the legend in order to catch it. It was a more rewarding experience than BWB2W2 and I'm assuming XY events turned out to be. Also unlike Gen III events they had story like you said.

I also hope they add the islands to the map as I don't think they were on the map at all...Hoenn could have some of it's islands on the map used...

I agree, since gen 4 they started giving background story to the event legends, that started to give meaning of why they exist and the effects they have in the pokemon world. Arceus was one, if not the most, with more background story when you were searching for the plates and some extra stuff they added in hgss. And lets not forget keldeo and his relation with the other musketeers. They should definitely give more background story to the soul dew and the twins, like what's the true purpose of the soul dew and the mechanism behind it's creation, the role the twins play in the pokemon world and why they reside in southern island.

I'm sure it'll make a return - although I'm not sure what else could be on it besides Mega Stones/Soul Dew/Lati@s.

Ontopic: I'm hoping they add the story of the Soul Dew into the games. It's kind of a strange item in that it's the soul of a fallen Latios(/Latias?)

Ooh, sounds like a good idea. I hope they put something about the item in there. Maybe there will be a Lati@s caretaker on the island, and we get to talk to them briefly for a bit like the Zoroark event?

It'll be cool to see the Latis talk to us, after all they can take human shape among other shapes according to their dex entry and their appearances in other media (at least Latias has).

Haha, that is interesting. Perhaps if we talk to the Lati@s with it's counterpart in our team the Lati@s would join us straightaway? That would be pretty interesting imo

Or they may get angry thinking we're like the trainers N hated...

Sure, why not? If it were expanded, we'd be able to spend more time here exploring. Plus, it'd give them a reason to put more range of wild Pokémon, especially those that are not native to Hoenn such as Axew, Gible, Deino, and perhaps Riolu. Personally, I'd really like it if this place were freely accessible from anywhere, and didn't require you any ticket of sorts to reach it. This is one of the major reasons why much people weren't aware of Southern Island's existence in RSE; would be great if they could avoid that in ORAS. :b

It'd be cool to see the Southern Island expanded. I know in my first few runs through the original games, I had no idea the island even existed. That could easily be changed with an expansion, possibly with some puzzle or event that you have to go through to get to the legendary.

It could be something similar to the zorua and zoroark you find in black and White

And they will commence to fight us in a higher level or in their mega forms? That would be cool as well.

that would be something interesting to mention, the level, in the original ruby/sapphire they were at level 40 when roaming hoenn and level 50 when in southern island, in hg/ss they dropped their levels to 35 roaming and 40 in the pewter city event. In b2/w2 they raised their levels to 68, going back to the trend of making then versión exclusive with latias in White 2 and latios in black 2

I wonder what level are they going to put them this generation, maybe something according to their movesets (at least they don't learn roar like raikou, entei and suicune*)

*suicune used to have roar but in the transition of being a roamer to being a stationaty pokemon between gold/silver and crystal roar was removed from it's moveset.

All the unoccupied islands need to have training regions set on them like the Sevi Islands. Mirage Island and Birth Island as well need to be openly accessible too now.

I think they'll leave Mirage island the way it was but merely increase the change to see it.

I wonder how they'll handle the Mega stone event...hope it's not as simple as finding it next to the Lati like they did with Mewtwo's.

This. It was an absolute bummer, too. I thought they'd make it something like you'll actually have to work to get it, and I never felt I truly deserved Mega Mewtwo X tbh. That being heard, I would not like to see it like right next to the Lati. Perhaps Latias can have Latiosite and Latios can have Latiasite as their respective hold items? That way, we have to catch both to have mega stones for either.

Or maybe get the stones from X and Y and you have to either trade it from ORAS to XY or vice versa to get them?

It's hardcoded into X&Y that any Pokémon holding these two mega stones cannot be traded to any other game, so I don't see that as a possibility. There's also the very obvious chance that Game Freak would once again pig out and give these two stones via events.

It is still possible that they could release another patch for it. I mean they would most likely add new megas in ORAS and maybe add some content into X and Y.

Possibly, but I wouldn't really like it if they'd patch the game, you know. Like, I always feel that when we buy a game and they release a patch for it afterwards, it feels as if they rushed the game and sold us the 'incomplete' version.

It would be a nice idea, though. I mean, if they add new megas in ORAS they have to add a patch for X&Y because they ain't there in the game data.

I hope that they don't make us have to get them from XY. I want them to be in these games as it fits better with the Eon duo.

I think one of the main reasons for making ORAS is to introduce new stuff that were not in xy. One of them is the mega stones for the lati twins and their mega evolutions. it doesn't make sense to have to go to other game and transfer it to the new game when it was not released in the previous game in the first place. They most probably will release everything in ORAS and will not have to include stuff to transfer from XY, I think the reason they have that data in XY is for compatibility reasons with new games from the same generation (ORAS) so that we are able to trade and transfer between the games of the same generation. And example of that are the berries that are not all found in kalos and that the rest can be found in other regions (hoenn (place that properly introduced berries)). speaking of berries it would be a good idea to add a Berry that can only be found in southern island like the liechi Berry that was only available in mirage island.
