Do you guys ever set special goals when starting a pokemon game? Like beating it with the same six pokemon you first caught, or something else? (I'm at a blank for goals here)

Tell us about your goals, discus goals and whatnot in this thread. I'll go first.

My goal was to beat the pokemon league with the first six pokemon that i caught, only using different pokes for HMs, in which case i would catch the pokemon for the HM, use it, then release it.

    The first six caught
    Chimchar
    Shinx
    Magikarp
    Starly
    Eevee
    Budew

The six that beat the Pokemon League
    Infernape
    Luxray
    Gyarados
    Staraptor
    Glaceon
    Roserade

Look at that!! I did it!! lol woot go me!! XD
Now tell me about your goals!! I wanna hear 'em!! :P

I'm not entirely sure that this counts, but I've pretty much sworn off of post-Johto Pokemon. If I have any in Platinum, I'll have them to trade.

    That counts dude;).

I always set a goal to take all my pokemon to lv 36 or above before challenging the 2nd gym.

My goal was kind of a lousy one :(
I wanted to try and raise my starter pokemon to 100 before facing the E4...I failed :P

I have a few goals when playing the games:

I always try to keep my Pokemon at the same level. I'm actually quite obsessive about this -- as soon as one of my Pokes becomes a level higher than the rest of them, I stop using it completely until the rest catch up. I also set certain level goals before each gym -- usually level 15 before the first gym, 20 before the second.

Like Shadow also said, I only use the Pokemon that I plan on taking to the E4. I won't waste my time leveling up ANY Pokemon that will just end up in my PC. I'm pretty crazy about that, too.

I also dont move on from an area until I catch all of the Pokemon that are available in that area. This is sort of a new goal for me since I reset my Emerald -- I usually go back at the end of the game to try to "catch them all," but I'm trying to go through the game and catch them as I see them.

As far as post-ending content, my goal is to collect shinies. Someday, I'd like to have all 493 Pokemon shiny... we'll see ;)

Same Here, I'm obsessive about levels, and I make sure my pokemon have an advantage against the E4/Gym leaders

In Every Pokemon game I own (Wich would be all of them) I'm doing what I call a Gotta catch 'em all+Train 'em all to lvl100. Once I catch all the Pokemon in one game, I'll breed/re-catch some Pokemon and trade it to the other version :P it's sad how this was my New Years Resolution XD

ehhh I don't really have goals. My goal is to just win the game.

As of right now, I have set one of my first goals for a Pokemon game, in my Platinum, I shall catch all 493 pokemon! 113 to go currently. (I'm after you Barboach...)

Don't you think that it will take some time and its kinda hard?

That's the fun of it, though! I'm planning to do the same on my newly-restarted Pearl -- I haven't had a game with all the Pokemon collected since my original Red version. Having wi-fi should help immensely, however.

I always keep them at the same level, except in Gym challenges, where one can OHKO the leaders team. In that situtation I get the badge, then train the rest of the team to catch up to whatever level the other was at.

I've done that. That was a goal in years past. Also for that goal, I would, for example, catch a Starly. I would level it to Staraptor, then breed 2 starly eggs and evolve one egg to Staravia, then put it in its box. Also, be sure to have Pokemon Ranch to put most of them in in the future!

I'm much the same for the first goal, i get more lenient towards the end of the game and post game however; because outside of competitive gameplay if you have super effective moves and aren't ridiculously underlevelled, than even Magikarp can be a killing machine. I do let one or two pokemon lag a bit if they are super effective against an upcoming gym leader, as they can gain good levels in the gym with the type advantage. I also train pokemon who are weak against the gym first so if they are required to fight, they can.

I have this little thing where i sometimes avoid as many trainers as possible in a route, no matter how long it takes, until i reach the end of it, then return from the end with underlevelled pokemon and beat all the trainers without healing.

I also have another goal on my Leaf Green right now, to catch all 150 kanto dex pokes, since I missed out on Mew. Only 16 to go...dang you Doduo...evolve already!!!
