So theres a few observations. Just in the opening bits of the demo Im sure everyone noticed. For one Mom and Hero came from Kanto region. With very few men seeming coming from that region.

Red's Kid: Watching the Origins saga you can similar features between Red and Hero being the game is 20 years old presuming Red is 30 at this point. It isnt out of the possibility that Red met someone and had a kid. Then decided to he still wanted to be a trainer and continued to train and the Mom was fed up and left.

Red's Brother: This one is a stretch for me running this thru my head but its could be possible. Perhaps Oak and Reds Mom had a thing and Hero was a result. Given timing and presumed ages of Reds mom it possible but highly unlikely.

Red's Aloha form: Since Most if not all Aloha region pokemon have Alt forms. Why not Red be no exclusion. Game most times doesnt have to make sense and it could be that Mom and Red left Kanto the year after he caught all 150 Pokemon. In Aloha age 11 is minimum to pursue a trainer career and at this time if he had done that in a years span Red would be 11 going into this. (only took 20 years to go up a year but anyway)

Now I could be all wrong 100% and it could just be thats how Game Freak makes their characters and Im full of crap xD.

Anyway I would like everyone elses thoughts on this.

I don't know if I'd say they were trying to make Gen I fans happy so much as tie these games to the original games. A callback. The new forms for Gen I Pokemon seems to be the biggest sign of that.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't other protagonists been from Kanto originally?

Anyway, no, I don't think the protagonist has any connection to old characters. I mean, it's possible, but so are lots of other possibilities.

I think all of the protagonist have been from the region they are in other than Silver and May or Brandon. One of them is from Johto, but not Kanto. I think. I am pretty sure they moved from Johto. And Silver is from Viridian City.

As for being related to Red? I don't think so. I don't think they would have Red marry some random character unless it is stated to be Leaf (Blue or Yellow in the Manga)

However, I do think there will be a lot of call back to old character. I for one am hoping that the characters from Unova make an appearance. With Unova based on New York and Alola based on Hawaii, I think there should be some type of connection between the 2 regions. I know they are supposed to be far away, but New York and Hawaii are a extremely long way from each other as well.

I doubt this for a number of reasons, mainly that the games timeline is not necessarily the same as ours since Gen I/III take place at the same time (give or take) as does Gen II/IV take place 3 years later. If anything I'd wager by the time S/M comes out, Red would be 23 by my count so the hero is definitely not his son or anything. Beyond that, I'm not seeing anything that could connect him to Red in any meaningful way.

I feel the reason why people speculate the Sun & Moon protagonist is a descendant of Red (or in the case of the demo, Ash) is because he/she moved to Alola from Kanto. Personally, I believe the Kanto shoutouts is to do with Pokemon's 20th anniversary, and of course Genwunner pandering.

My thoughts: Red has absolutely nothing to do with the character whatsoever. I think you mean Ash, who's a different character altogether.

Although if I'm going to be truly honest I think Game Freak was just trying to shoe in a reference to make Gen I fans happy.

If I was referencing Ash I wouldve stated that. Considering that Ash is a running 10 year old character yet. I dont think that would be plusable. Hense why I stated Red

Red is a PC, not just an NPC. They cant tell you what you've done. Brother might get by as a stretch, because of the RB re-release.

I kinda have to agree that the player character(s) and their mom originally being from Kanto is just another bit of Gen 1 referencing.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't other protagonists been from Kanto originally?
The only other protagonists I'm aware of that originally came from other regions are May/Brendan, but they came from Johto, not Kanto. Everyone else seems to be native to the region their game takes place in.

edit: Calem/Serena are from another region as well, but it's never stated where exactly they came from.
