Yeah they really cant implement the protags as being champions because than the champions would all be the last protags and that would be insatiably boring
 
I wouldn't find them appearing as champs boring...
Alder could've gotten some more powerful bug Pokémon (he's pratically a bug trainer like how Steven who's team is half Steel is a steel pokémon trainer) like Heracross, and Scisor for his tournament team.

I wouldn't have liked it if they made him a bug trainer. He just doesn't seem like one. Even though he had three bugs in BW, it seemed more coincidental. I don't like how much they changed his team, but I guess none of his Pokémon except Volcarona really made sense in BW.

Steven is more like Rock trainer in PWT... but well, maybe GF wanted to try new teams that could be used in R/S remakes.
 
So Serebii is updating the Trainer list for the PWT. Bianca is a battleable person in the PWT in the Driftveil Tournament, Mix Tournament, and Unova Leaders. She's also in the World Leaders tournament, although Serebii listed her twice with the same team.

Why is she in the Unova Leaders and World Leaders? XD

So far the only Pokemon restrictions I found are:
The following aren't eligible; Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta
 
I have no idea why Bianca is included into the Leaders, but maybe it's because she's one of the strongest trainers? Idk, but it's odd that we can't have Keldeo as opposed to the other three.
I do like that they include other trainers in the Type Expert category, rather than JUST the Gym Leaders.
 
I like the way it's not just purely gym leaders but also strong trainers and other important characters such as Bianca, Cilan etc. It will certainly take a while to beat ALL of them.
 
I'm glad they included some strong trainers that specialise in the otherwise forgotten dark type. It's kinda unfair how Keldeo is banned probably just because it's an event Pokémon, as it's stats aren't any better than the other legendary musketeers.
 
I really wish Gamefreak would go off Smogon's ban list for the PWT (Except for Blaziken) and just have a Wi-Fi event every time something went up / down.
C'mon, I really wanna use Shaymin in PWT!
 
All of the Mirage Legends (the small guys Mew, Celebi, Jiranchi, Shaymin, Victini, Meleotta) as well as Event Only Pokemon are usually banned from the In Game events. Genesect isn't listed because it doesn't technically exist yet.

From Serebii:

Two new Wi-Fi downloads of Pokémon World Tournaments have begun. These tournaments both have different rules and currently have no end date known at this point.
First is the Gathered! Gym Leader! tournament. This tournament features various Gym Leaders of the regions with teams that they did not have before. This is a Double Battle tournament and requires you to choose 4 Pokémon
Second is the Challenge the Champion, Lance! tournament. This tournament features the Champion Lance and Gym Leaders, again with teams they didn't have before. These are Single Battles and require you to choose 3 Pokémon
We'll work out teams from these and update as soon as possible.

So, does that mean you must get these event downloads to get those Leaders included into the Tournament, or does that just mean that these events give you the same Leaders but with different Pokemon?

Also, I can see Genesect being excluded from the Tournament, as well.

Same leaders already shown with new teams and items on the pokemon.
 
You may need world Champions, though I'd see if its a Wifi Download first.

I don't have a copy of the game and it may very well have a special lock like I've heard rumored to exist on Japanese copies needing to be in Japan to receive the Downloads.

Still try Nintendo WFC first. If no luck, then unlock World Champions and try again.
