OK, so I just came out of something that I really don't understand and I'm not happy about.

So I walked into fight Lusamine in the Aether Foundation feeling determined and expecting her to have a rant at Lillie and Gladion about them running away, and then use the energy from Cosmog to release the Ultra Beasts across Alola, before Gladion steps in and tells us to fight Lusamine, much like it was in the original SM. However, I walked out pretty annoyed.

The reality was, we ended up with Lusamine giving us a monologue about Necrozma and how they can use Cosmog to bring back Necrozma (sorta can't remember, even though I just beat her), and then having the player step up to battle her so she can see if they're good enough to continue on the island challenge and possibly...buy her time? All of this was done in a rather casual manner which was pretty jarring, especially considering in the scenes prior she was ranting at Lillie for running away from Aether and the scenes before played out like in SM. To be honest, I feel like this destroyed Lusamine's character and what made her a likeable villain, as an abusive parent. This overall casual manner, especially considering the music didn't become more frantic, also destroyed the sense of danger that was arising about Cosmog - it was pushed to the point of death, for goodness sake!

Anyone else feel that Lusamine's character was destroyed in this game with that scene alone? Or is there more to come?

To be honest, I like what they did. US/UM show us the real Lusamine as she is without neurotoxins and... well, things are just different this time around. Very different.

I don't think they destroyed Lusamine, for one simple reason that has nothing to do with US/UM's scenario: in terms of canon, she's not the same Lusamine from S/M. US/UM have always been advertised as taking place in another dimension. Basically, unlike previous "third versions", US/UM don't supersede S/M in terms of canon: there are two dimensions in which Lusamine got high on Nihilego and went nuts, and two where she didn't.

Just got done with this scene myself, and I can't help but feel nearly exactly the same as you.

Really, I think the scene could've been executed right if they just kept some of the dialogue and features the same from SM, namely Hau prompting you to fight Lusamine, the dark clouds over the foundation, etc. Some epic music also would've really helped the scene, rather than... Whatever they actually played.

WITH THAT SAID, I don't think it damaged Lusamine's character too much. It's evident that she's still on Nihilego's jelly drugs and still an evil person/terrible parent. I've just arrived on Poni as well, so I can see things taking a turn soon.

Lusamine is still a good character. She and Gladion are still the best of their family.

spoilers Lusamine is NOT villain in US/UM... that is like you saying they destroyed Guzuma's character cause he was not a real villain.
    Lusamine in US/UM=/=Lusamine in S/M.

I actually feel... entirely the opposite? They did so much good with her in this game. They kept her right in the shades-of-grey area that they should have kept her in. They introduced the concept that maybe, even though she's not the best parent on Earth, she's still a caring mother deep down; they introduced the possibility that with this iteration of her, she really is concerned with protecting the Pokemon of Alola, and even her family, especially with what happened to her husband. She's really, really well-written. I've always thought that the ambiguity of her moral alignment was her best characteristic - we don't have many other characters like in this series.

    And that goes without mentioning...

    Spoiler:

I might be a little biased, but Lusamine is one of the most complex and interesting characters in the history of the franchise, and I love what they did with her in these games.

same. I actually liked USUM version of Lusamine better than S/M Lusamime... there is just something adorable about her actually showing love and care to her children and people.

I am mixed about the way it was handled. I like how Lusamine showed more of a caring side, but the battle against her felt more anti-climatic than what I had expected. SM did a better show at presenting the danger to Cosmog.

I prefer Lusamine to remain cruel to Lillie but a bit nicer to Gladion. I think that would have been better for USUM.

I also prefers the USUM Lusamine to SM's.
Tbvh, I liked how she really wanted the Ultra Beast but still decided to protect her own children in the end-- That's how parents usually are and I like how she's a much better parent in USUM.

She's also not overly cruel with Pokemon and actually like what Aether Paradise should have been, protecting Pokemon and helping them, pushing the bad thing to Faba instead, which right from the start, we all knew Faba had always been up to no goods.

It does disappoint with her battle and especially without the UB flare on her Pokemon any longer though.

Lusamine is suppose to be a villain so USUM didn't really do her justice. SM Lusamine was awesome.

Who says Lusamime needs always be a villain? Like I said before US/UM lusamime =\= lusamime s/m
They are two different characters who happens to share same name and similar backgrounds.

I actually like USUM's Lusamine rather than SM's. The SM one was a little too over the top even when you think that she was hopped up on Nihilego juice. But with this one, you can actually see a woman that cares about her kids, but is going about trying to protect them the wrong way.

Well, USUM is set in a alternate universe. But i prefer Lusamine of SM because she was the first female evil leader we had. This is my opinion. I know that others would have different opinions.

I like Lusamine from the USUM version because he personality is developed far more better, but i do like the Lusamine of SM because she was the first evil female character to ever be part of a main series game.

I disagree with your opinion. USUM Lusamine has not developed at all. She pretty much got her character development decreased in my opinion.

SM Lusamine had the most development of gen 7 in my opinion.

Here's hoping we see more female bosses in future games.

    Your opinion.

USUM Lusamine character had a lot more development in the Gen 7. SM Lusamine was okay but doesn't seem to have very much development.

My posts do say "in my opinion" so why are you keep telling me that it is my opinion when i know it is?

And no, Lusamine in SM developed more in SM in my opinion.

I think that SM Lusamine had the most potential to develop out of the two. I would say that USUM Lusamine developed, but at the same time they way they handled her felt like she was already half of the way there so it didn't have much impact.
