I see the comments raging at me for saying this, but I've done my research. Charizard was good back in the day, but now things are a little different. Stealth Rock was invented, making Charizard's life difficult. However, it is absolutely impossible for Blastoise to learn this move. So, if he can't learn stealth rock, than what about him makes him so special? Well, this is the deal. The Special Charizard in X & Y has the ability drought, making solarbeam easy to perform (and still, it has to be taught via TM,) however Blastoise has a new ability: Mega Cannon (Or something like that.) This powers up the moves like Water Pulse or Dark Pulse. Already having same-type-attack-bonus, Super-effectiveness, and now this new ability, Blastoise has an even EASIER time taking the Fire-Breathing Dragon to its knees. Let us also not forget, if you do research, or do process of elimination, You'll know that Blastoise can learn the TM Stone Edge. This move has 15PP, maybe 20, has a base power of 75, is Quad-effective, and can cause the target to flinch. I'm sorry Gen 1ers, but Charizard is no longer the ideal choice. HOWEVER, what about the last one, Venasaur. (I might have mispelled that,) What does Blastoise have against him? Well, unless you do this right, Venasaur can still do good damage on Blastoise. However, if you use a TM Gyro Ball, that is super effective on Him (even though due to the weight issue it wont cause much damage.) If you have a heart scale, you can have Blastoise learn FLASH CANNON. Flash Cannon is a Steel-Type move, with 80 base power. Unfortunately, these are as good as it gets, unless you're playing other previous games where move tutors can tech him Iron Tail (there might be one in X & Y.) SO, if you have trouble picking which Original Starter to pick, Squirtle is the Ideal starter. If you don't mind taking up 2 slots for Flash Cannon and Rock Slide, you sir, can demolish anything. ONE MORE THING. If you're worried about Electric-Types. Don't. Because Blastoise can learn (I'm not kidding,) Earthquake by TM. So if you get this TM, you're set for all of Blastoise's weaknesses, and he can DEMOLISH CHarizard. Thank me later.
