God I need more of this thing. Stardust is used along with candies to power up your Pokémon and raise their CP. How much Stardust do you have? How often do you use Stardust? Do you hang on to it and hoard it or do you power up your team and keep improving them? Do you have any methods for farming Stardust to share?

I frivolously spent Stardust on my top 6 or 7 Pokémon I use for attacking/defending gyms. They're in a good spot now so I'm back to hoarding.

Since I tend to catch more than a hundred Pokémon a day and hatch anywhere from 10-20 eggs, that's already 10K+ dust from captures and potentially 20K+ dust from hatching eggs. Take today for example: I started the day with about 800 Stardust and ended the day with about 35K.

Best tip? Catch everything you see.

Yeah, I have very little stardust. I tend to spend it just as quickly as I earn it.

Wish there were more ways to get stardust in the game, but I understand making a well balanced game.

I spend it as quickly as I get it powering up my top two; a pidgeot and a fearow. I know what you're supposed to do is hoard it until a high level because by then you'll have found a higher level version of the thing you levelled up and you'll have wasted a lot of dust but really... I'm just playing for fun, not min-maxing, and seeing their CPs go up makes me happy. I religiously catch everything I see though so it doesn't take me long to build up a supply.

I'm with Jae on this one. Catch pretty much everything you see. That's your best strat for getting more.

Also, don't spend it willy-nilly. Like Jae, I only really use it on my top 6 or so. And then, only when I'm confident that I'm going to be using one of those Pokemon for a while.

I agree with that for sure, I'm maxing out a Butterfree with it right now whom I know will obviously never be that strong but it'll be awesome to have him on my main team. I've only ever used Stardust on two, maybe three Pokémon at a push throughout my time playing, but it's still just sooo hard to feel like you have enough. I wish you could trade in spare candy for it or something haha.

I have over 20k at the moment, and I spend it every now and then, but I usually keep at least 10k in case I happen to get a Pokemon I really want so I can power it up if I need to.

I wish there was a quicker way to get it. I do try to catch lots of Pokemon, but when I do it tends to drain my supply of pokeballs quickly.

Pretty wild, I was going to make a post about stardust today. Since I saw this post, I'll just add it to this thread. Check this out.

I'm now a level 19 (almost 20). I've been noticing that Stardust at this very moment is pointless until end game. For example, if you spend stardust on a 200 CP Pokemon to get him to 450 CP, then head out and catch a pokemon that has 450 CP, you just wasted all that stardust on that one particular Pokemon. I've found that as I level higher the CP meters of the Pokemon caught drastically get higher. As an additional example, is that I was wandering around catching Pokemon and snagged a Paras with a CP of 410.

Here is what I'm getting at, if you dedicate time to play - you shouldn't spend any Stardust till you hit level 40 and are catching Pokemon at their full potential. Then when you get there you'll have like 500,000 (example) stardust to push them to MAX and then you'll have all the end game strong Pokemon.

Let me know what you think of this, but I'm truly thinking that early game stardust is absolutely pointless.

I used to use all the stardust immediately, but I regret doing that completely. I used quite a bunch of stardust to max out my Beedrill earlier, but man that thing was still terrible.
Currently, I try to have my Flareon's stats maxed out constantly (to battle Gyms) and save the rest for when I catch another decent Pokémon. Right now, I have 11069 dust.

I am level 21 and currently considering this as well.

However, I'm still using a "Wave" approach. Back around lvl 18 I felt like I could really, really compete at gyms if I just Powered Up a few of my best Pokemon. That worked well. I've earned more gold coins daily because of that.

Right now I'm in "Saving" phase again, but I expect to hit another wave (maybe around lvl 25?) where I'll be wanting to beef up a few more good Pokemon again for gym battles.

So while I understand and agree with your logic, I think it does come down to how competitive you want to be along the way. Right now, I'm opting for being competitive while still saving the vast majority of the time until the end game, like you said.

Woohoo! I'm about 19.3 million EXP away from level 40!

Anyway, I use dust sparingly in order to keep 6-7 Pokémon around the levels of the highest ones I see in gyms around my home/workplace. Otherwise save, save, save.

The coins I haven't seen much value as of yet. It may be possibly due to the masses playing the game in my region and their ability to dumping lures every turn I make. However, this same mass craze has caused the gyms to flip so much that, literally, I took a gym at 12am and by 12:15am that gym had already flipped. Literally, I had my Pokemon back in my luggage. Which somewhat indicated to me that Gyms at this point (in my area) don't have much drive behind um as its only a matter of time until someone cruises by with 5 peeps in the car to take it from ya.

I hear ya, but I won't be spending StarDust in my region for quite a while (55,000 atm).

I've started using my Stardust quite a lot and honestly I don't regret it. Whilst it is better to save it in terms of efficiency, it's been pretty fun training up a powerful Butterfree to join my team and having my new Lapras go completely over the top with his CP. I'll make sure to always have a decent amount left for if there's a crazily strong Pokémon that needs boosting up to insane levels again but I'm not being too picky with Stardust any more and it's been a lot more fun!

I have 6700 Stardust, but i'm being 'efficient' (read: boring) with it, and trying to save it until i'm a higher level.

I have over 160k stardust. I'm waiting till I hit lvl 40 and catch some perfect pokemons untill I use them.

Saved up about 43k Stardust now woo! Do you guys think it's worth using this to boost a 987 Arbok (Acid/Dark Pulse) or save it? I'd love to have him on my team but I think I'm looking for someone to tell me not to before I waste all the dust on something rubbish...

This is most definitely the optimal thing to do, but I still spend all my Stardust as fast as I get it, because I value having the stronger Pokemon now over having them later XD

Hatched Pokemon are maxed at Level 20 and wild pokemon are maxed at level 30 so if you get enough stardust to evolve a pokemon that you are unlikely to see in the wild then you can start splashing the stardust on it from level 20 but if its one where you should be able to catch then leave until you hit level 30 and catch a very strong one which would save a massive amount of stardust

Decided I'd binge out on my 80% IVs Tangela, let's see what happens:
    • Starting at 65k stardust, 29 candy, 966 CP...
    • Ended at 38k stardust, 4 candy, 1184 CP - hit max :(
Well that was quite underwhelming! Was really hoping he'd at least be in my top six with all of that dust and candy spent... Oh well, I'll make sure to use him regardless - may not be the strongest lil' guy but he's special regardless!
