[Suggestion] Group Coloured or Altered Names

Since Group Memberships were added, I thought it would be a cool or neat idea to allow anyone who is in one to have a coloured name, or like a + by their name.

Since most of these new groups have to be approved before joining, this would allow users to see if someone is in a group or not.

The members list is already like a rainbow, your idea is unnecessary. Besides, each group has a list in the first post of their thread.

Though, we could add a character to their names if they are in a UserGroup.

it doesn't always have to be an colourized name.

It's fine as is. They are just members that's in a few usergroups.
And if this was set up then what would happen if someone was apart of more then one group? What color would their name be?

That wouldn't work very well. If somebody was in 10 groups they'd have 10 +'s beside their name, which would probably stretch the page on lower reso's.

I liken eople going around with names with a color corresponding to a group they belong to to people walking the streets with gang tattoos. We're trying very hard to make this new feature one that has no divisive side effects. Also, who would really want extra characters added to their names anyway? Group memberships are going to remain low-key. We've utilized the area in user profiles that displays them, and if anyone wants a certain membership of theirs to be more prominent, put it in your sig like many people do with clubs that they belong to.

Just for the record, I ment having only *one* added character for any amount of usergroups you would have joined.

I didn't mean for people to assume, that everyone you would join it would add an character.

And, the reason I brought this up is because Usergroups can be unitilized if you add on the right hacks which I will suggest in the future.

I'm not sure if that's even possible with vbulletin coding. And even if it was, it'd be so cumbersome with new groups and new user groups to have to create and edit and new colors to go with each and yadda yadda yadda...

You can do it with the adminCP. On a forum I go on, an admin is going around with a silver username that comes from a group membership. (Unless you meant something else, then forgive me.)

I agree that it's not a very good idea. There's just too many usergroups right now, and there's going to be even more at this rate. @_@ You would have alot of colored usernames, or you would have alot of +s. And then you'd probably run out of colors, or the colors would be so close to each other. And then you'd probably have to get the groups to vote on colors and such... it'd be too much work to do, and it wouldn't be a very good result.

Well, since the colored name won't work out, what about giving group members special user ranks, like a small symbol under their username?

Why do groups need to be distinguished, anyway? It's not mandatory to know every member. Putting them in sigs would be a good idea, however, if that desirable.
