    Hi All
I am after some advice please, my son (13) has recently got into collecting and playing Pokemon TCG, I have decided at the ripe young age of 47 I would get myself some cards and play with him for a bit of fun.
Now the big question is I really dont know which packs to buy to start my deck and which is the best value for money.
I live in the UK and I know I would get better deals online but i thought it would be fun go shopping with him to get them on a boys trip out.
Where do you guys recommend and what would be a good starter box to get so I can start with him.

Thanks in advance for any help offered and Happy New Year.

My top recommendation is always a local card shop, especially one with a Pokemon League. You can find Pokemon leagues near you using the League Locator: https://www.pokemon.com/uk/play-pokemon/pokemon-events/find-an-event/

As for solid theme decks to start a deck around, if you can find them, here they are ranked in my personal opinion:

    1. Relentless Flame
    2. Torrential Cannon
    3. Laser Focus
    4. Hydro Fury
    5. Leaf Charge
    6. Unseen Depths
    7. Towering Heights
    8. Imperial Command
    9. Mach Strike

The rest aren't really worth building around, IMO. Generally you'll want to buy two copies so you can pick the better cards from each and eliminate some of the chaff.

Thank you guys, there is a Cosmic Eclipse theme deck at Smyths toy shop near me and they also have the Cosmic Eclipse Elite trainer box, do you think they would be ok as they're the only ones I can find together in any shops near me ?????
Thanks again, even though I dont understand all your saying at the moment being super noob I am so very grateful 😉

Thanks again everyone, I picked up the Cosmic Eclipse elitemtrainer box and a Cosmic Eclipse theme deck to start, now I've just got to learn how to play it 😁 thanks again for all your advice and help.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game Online app does have a tutorial at the beginning, but it's kind of designed to teach 8 year olds, so it'll feel like it's treating you like you're 8. https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-tcg/play-online/download/
