Super Smash Brothers Brawl Delayed... Again

I don't mind delays. I prefer delays. But, like Erica said...there clearly isn't a reason for this. So, I just don't get it.

But, I don't buy into this "Nintendo's lying to us" fad. Nintendo doesn't have some secret agenda to annoy you for no apparent reason. Sorry to disappoint you. Delays happen. I'd rather have a delayed game than an unfinished game. They aren't planned or anticipated. When a game is announced...well that's just it. For the purposes of business and the media they can't just say, "Look we have a game that'll come out eventually". They need to announce a date.

The only actual reason I can see for the month-long delay is market research. They know when the game would sell best (outside of the holiday season). February always seemed weird to me because I haven't heard of many big name games coming out then.

Also, tone it down a bit guys. Calm down a bit and watch the language.

I don't mind if they delay it, but to me, their is a limit. II will eventually lose interest. If you dangle a carrot in front of a horse too long, he will eventually give up on it.

As I said, at this point, I'd expect the creator to make a video of him apologizing. You can only delay so much before people get po'ed.

Plus, I am in college. I must return home to buy the game, so I must make my schedule to get it. Now I gotta replan.

I agree with Arcanine: I don't see how a video just of him saying he's sorry would help. No, I would rather see gameplay videos over just a man (even if he IS incredibly important) apologizing.

No. At this point, I stand by what I said. I don't care about anymore stupid screenshots, and we know how the game is. It's comeplete. Now all they're doing at this point is hopelessley pissing off fans. Maybe not purposely, but he knows how highly anticipated this game is. I've seen that link on your blog, the fake Wikipedia link. It was nice. But at this point, I'd very much like a real apology, to at least quell some of his fans. Think what you want.

hmmm....i was thinking about the whole delay thing today and i came up with a theory they delayed it so that they can give time for no more heroes to sell
if you think about it it seems possible i mean they were coming out around the same time and everybody wants brawl so bad like me =] so if they kept that release date no more heroes would not sell at all everybody would be buying brawl
if you noticed the original release date for no more heroes was feb 5th and brawls was feb 10th
they pushed brawl back and no more heroes foward
current release date for no more heroes jan 22 this tuesday =]
current release date for brawl march 9th =[

I'd very much like a real apology, to at least quell some of his fans. Think what you want.
And it'd likely piss off more people then it'd make happy. What's he going to do, make a vid of himself saying "I'm sorry for pushing Brawl back. No, I'm not going to give a reason for pushing it back in North America, but for all of you Japanese people, have fun with Brawl in a few weeks.". No thanks, I think I'll be better off without a vid.

You'd be surprised how many fans think that he's doing it for the soul purpose of just pissing us off. You' be even more surprised to see how many fans feel forsaken.

For a game this hotly anticipated, many fans are just tired of waiting. I've seen a few saying "screw [for lack of a better word] Nintendo, I'm returning my Wii" or something to that effect.

I meant to add him making a video apologizing & explaining himself, but I forgot to add the latter.

No matter what the case is, if it is their intentions (which I highly doubt) or a big glitch of some sort, or an English translation fix-up, we have to wait. Look at it this way, this is Super Smash Brothers Brawl, a game we've been waiting for and much of the reason why we bought a Wii, it's my reason. I can understand the many fans and their anger, I respect that, but we just have to deal with it, it's a game that we all play in, life. Just find something else to occupy yourself until Brawl releases, this delay is for the good most likely. Even if Nintendo is actually doing this just to anger us or something, we can show them we can play the waiting game, just don't fall out and lose. Bleh, enough with the lecture. XD

Just keep yourself busy for awhile, play SSBM or SSB and warm up for brawl, it's what I'm doing. I know the movesets are different and all, but a Smash game is a Smash game.

We don't care about delays. It's usually a good thing.

But, the thing is, THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO ADD!

They are delaying for no coherent reason. Which is why many fans are mad.

If they WERE doing it to anger fans, which is not the case, they will lose many of Nintendo supporters. They aren't that stupid.
You are right--we will have to wait. But we dang sure need a place to vent, or there will be bloodshed, and I've been dying to try out my new "Rioting Kit"

I have an idea, let's just talk about the possible good things that could be helping our Brawl and such.

I think this delay is more to fix up the text of the game, so this way us English readers can read what's in brawl, even though most things in brawl are written in english, but maybe there are just a few other things they have to translate out. Other than that, they just put up a delay to fix up online play, because we all want smooth brawling when we are fighting against others online, right?

Sorry, but that's unlikely. It's a month delay. Everything that must be done, is done. The firat delay was confirmed to make the wifi seamless.

At first, they admitted that people in US might have problems connecting to places as far as Japan. They had to fix that. No prob. But now...I don't know.

As for me, my biggest issue is the fact that they are telling me this NOW. That is what kills me. I live on campus. I must return back to Brooklyn to get the game, & I must plan it out, as when I go, I spend the weekend. So this messes up my schedule.

I had to cancel my preorder mooonths ago since after December I wasn't living in the same city anymore. My terms alternate where I live, so if they give it one more delay, I might be able to go back to the same store and reinstate my preorder. How convenient. ♥

But yeah, I'd be content with a "sorry, but we had a manufacturing problem" video or something like that. I don't want an apology, I just want an explanation.

That's what I meant. I forgot to add explaination. But something to quell the fans.

An explanation would be nice enough for us, so most of us wouldn't have to blow out in anger. They should at least do that and create a video showing off the new features/characters in action, I would be pleased enough.

I'm starting to think that Sakurai is planning these delays out... It's a little strange that they would always get about month away from the release date, then change it. It's also odd that they show 2 characters right about when the delay happens! Kind of like that they know there will be more time to update. And what really makes me PO'ed is that Japan gets it set back a week, and we get an entire month.

Maybe this certain pattern can prove us something, it does make it seem like he's planning the delays out, now knowing this. Unless there were all just unexpected (and surprising) coincidences, but I highly doubt that.

Bleh, I've got stress and school to deal with first, then I'll be officially waiting for Brawl's release.

I'm very confused. This is bothering people a lot more than I would have imagined. You guys need things to do. :\

A video of him apologizing? Huh? We haven't been lied to. We haven't been betrayed. We haven't been forsaken - as one person put it.

Games get delayed. They get delayed for a reason. Even if they haven't told us what it is (or if we can't figure out what it is). Nintendo didn't wake up one day and say, "I feel crafty today. How can we tick off our fans? :O Let's delay Brawl"

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Don't take the delay so personally. It's most likely a business decision.

Well most of us here are actually fine with the delay (I'm for it) the only problem is the fact that there has not been any explanation on what this weird delay's purpose is. Japan only gets a week delay while here we get a month, that's the reason why everyone is getting upset.

That's a pretty arrogant thing to say, and a little insulting. We aren't allowed to be mad? Just because you can take this in stride, doesn't mean others must follow. As I said, I must make a schedule for when this game comes. I don't know about you, but I can't just run to the store & pick this up when need be.

A video of him apologizing? WTF? We haven't been lied to him. We haven't been betrayed. We haven't been forsaken - as one person put it.

Again, I stick by what I said. You'll see alot of people who takes this a lot worse than me.

These are from Gamespot.com
C'mon. I could it played it last year, now I waiting 4 February...NOW I have 2 wait 4 MARCH...... What next April....

Ok Ok... People don't seem to get it. They are not delaying this game to make it better. Do not be an idiot. They probably finished the game in September. The reason they delayed it past the holiday is so that it didn't have to compete with Super Mario Galaxy and the rest of the great holiday games. And the real reason that they are delaying it again is so that it spikes up the number of their next fiscal year.

Don't let them fool you they are not sorry for the delay... They know that the fanatic gaming population (me included) will buy it no matter how angry people get at delays. It is because of this reason that they are able to do whatever they want to market and release a game to the general public, without any consideration for the hardcore gamers. You guys should know as well as I do that no matter what we are going to buy the game.

Luckily for Developers we never get pissed enough to not buy it. I don't know about you guys but if I owned a business I would feel terrible about promising a client something then not delivering it. Does anybody want to tell me why developers seem to do this on even the slightest whim. Hell I deliver pizzas just PIZZAS not something people have been waiting for for years and I feel terrible when I get it their only a few minutes late, not only that but I also get paid less. I wish that game developers had the same thought process and results.

Well A couple things. First, for those who believe this game is already live and people in Japan are laughing as their personally created character named USA and Europe are getting rocketed in the face by Japanese Snake, I live there and the game is no where in sight. Gotta wait a few more weeks.

Second, delays like this happen with Hollywood releases all the time. Nintendo is delaying SSBB just to spite you cowboy Americans who deprive the Japanese of Jessica Alba movies the same day Americans get to watch her. I mean Japanese men can procreate with American women, thus making them of the same species. So if you guys want SSBB the same day, give us Jessica Alba the same day. It's only fair
(WTF? I think he insulted us, but I can't tell...)

Aww, I worked extra these past couple weeks to make sure I had enough money to by it by Feburary, and now its delayed? Crap...

If they didn't have a site that showed the development process of the game, I would say that this is becoming the next Duke Nukem Forever.

OK, maybe I'll overexaggerating just a little.

& if you thought I didn't make sense, THIS is crazy talk:
Maybe a petition is should be in order?

So understand, this has a bigger fanbase then you thought. Many fans DO indeed feel betrayed, and even forsaken. We are very weary of games being unexpectedly delayed out of nowhere, so often, especially for high profile games. I just about gave up on GTA 4. As I said, just because you can take this easily, doesn't mean others can. Sure, delays are unfortunate, we all know, and they happen for a reason. But simply stating that a hotly expected game is being delayed, with no explaination, will indeed turn fans sour, to the point where they just lose hope on it.

Don't take me as a ranting fanboy. I am just upset, and it seems as if I'm not allowed to be. I am more than willing to wait an extra two months if necessary. I am upset, however, that the news was given SO LATE. We were less than a month off, and they tell us this now? I must change up my schedule, as I said, cause I must pay 20 dollars to get home, and must spend the weekend there.

This is my favorite post:

A few things that amuse me....

The game is finished. 100%. It's been gold in Japan for a week now. Famitsu has already reviewed the final version (and, unsurprisingly, gave it a perfect score). There is no development. There is no "well maybe they can use this time to make the game better". People don't 'better develop' games in 30 days, especially when in 14 days it will be hitting store shelves in Japan. And if one more person thinks that adding Sonic the Hedgehog is some gateway for obscure 'no one gives a rats ass' support characters from his dreadful 3D sequels, I swear I will reign vengeance upon this earth (sorry, but someone wanted this delay to allow the inclusion of "Silver the Hedgehog", which made me vomit slightly).

The delay for Japan (one week) is to allow additional copies to be produced to fill ever growing pre-orders. Yes, this is due to massive hype generated for this game by Sakurai using very un-Nintendo tactics (when was the last game made by the big N that had daily teaser updates). The delay for North America is both to allow additional copies to be produced and yes to translate an entire game (and if taking one month to translate a game shocks the hell out of you, you've never met Square-Enix). As Nintendo stated, ALOT is being added to this game. As such, ALOT needs to be translated. Hell, swap Melee over to Japanese sometime. Aside from menu text, you're looking at the exact same game. As all of us true Smash Bros. fans know, Melee's scope fits into 1/10 of Brawl. Subspace Emissary alone will occupy him for 2 weeks.

The other thing that's beyond amusing is the conspiracy theorists (i.e. ones who either don't own a Wii or can't get one). Such common theories of their little minds are often viewed as fact.

MYTH: Smash Bros. is being delayed to generate hype.
FACT: Generate what hype? The game is already larger than Jesus (yes, I said it).

MYTH: Wii shortages are deliberate to generate hype.
FACT: The only ones that create shortages are consumers. More Wiis are shipped weekly than both Xbox 360s and PS3s. But a lower price tag + post-holiday ansiness = flying off store shelves. Now to further add insult to injury, GameStop partnered with Nintendo before Christmas to offer pre-orders on the Wii. Pay it off, guaranteed a Wii. No one took it up because they "wanted one now". Many of these people are still without Wiis, and the ones that did pre-order them got theirs this week. The reality: There is no shortage. People just don't try anymore.

Yes, this is sad news. But the real fans who've been waiting for 6 years now are more than ready to give Sakurai one more month. The man has yet to disappoint on what we're in for, and Famitsu seems to agree. And if you really need something to keep the Wii warm in February, No More Heroes will easily fill the void
