Someone is 1-starring every story listed on there. I'm not sure if they're doing this for a laugh, but I'm pretty sure not all of them are completely terrible.

If someone can find the culprit and deal with him/her, it would do all the fanfic writers a great service.

An alternative would be to remove the rating system altogether.

There's really no way to tell who's doing this. I've seen it happen before on another forum, where the only solution was to remove the star ratings until the Monostar Phantom admitted who they are. I was already planning on requesting to remove the star ratings.

Don't worry. I'm aware that someone or some people are being obnoxious trolls, and I'm going to keep a watch on my section to ensure that everyone who posts there and has followed the rules aren't made to feel uncomfortable.

Thanks for your concern. I really do appreciate it.

Maybe make it so they have to sumbit a report or something before rating? That way you could probably tell who is giving 1 stars. And im sure most people wont bother to be stupid if they actually have to write something and if people really want to rate it they can just say it was good or something. I dunno might be a stupid idea. Hard to explain :s.

I didn't know this was going down because I don't really frequent that part of PC anymore but this... isn't even remotely funny. Not that anyone should take THREAD RATINGS as serious business, of course.

@ shot571 - that's a good idea. Anything that will give us information on who rates stories would help a lot.

@ Astinus - I've begun VMing writers, telling them about this problem and that they shouldn't be discouraged from writing their stories. Is this ok?

@ Rekky - Well, story ratings are a different matter. It could hurt some authors' confidence and deter people from reading stories they think are rubbish.

Well in this case, the writers will most likely not take it seriously because someone had been 1-starring them All, without any recognition or any idea what the story was.

Good point. Still, it would be nice to have an honest rating and not have fools like this one tarnish good stories.

Oh, I completely agree. I just meant that nobody needs to really get worked up over that much it if there's a solution in sight.

A solution is currently being worked on.

If one would like to help writers not feel discouraged because their fic has been rated one star, you could always review the story and let the author know what you think of it. That will mean more to the author of the story than just a star rating, which anyone can give. It tells them more and feels more personal.

Thread ratings have been removed in the Writing forums, so hopefully no similar issues can arise. :)

@Starr- I'm not sure it's really something that needs to be thrown out as a warning. D:

Yeah, it's annoying of the person who's doing it, but even if they lower the star count to 1 for all of the fics, it won't reflect the quality of the fic itself. What's most important is the views a fanfic has, and the reviews it gets, I would think. I wouldn't worry about the rating for now. ><; Not that it won't be looked into, but just sayin'.

    edit; Beaten by Lightning. XD

    Glad the problem's solved ^^
