"Okay" I sighed, relieved. I too, started staring at the sky, trying to find my birth star. strangely enough, I couldn't. None of the skymarks I used were even there. "Huh.."I muttered, more to myself than anyone else, continuing "That's odd, am I really that far north?"
Rose smiled back at Kiltheron, and then said "Well, I'm going to get some sleep now. Good night!"
With that Rose turned over to her side and closed her eyes, falling asleep right away.
I myself leaned back against a nearby tree, trying to remember the northern starmaps I'd learned back in Nessus. It was a partially futile effort, I was only able to chart out some of the constellations I'd always wanted to see. On the other hand it was one of the best ways I knew to fall asleep.
Rose woke up once again, but this time not by a sound. It was a feeling. Kiltheron was indeed right. The demonians were still lurking around, and by Rose's senses tehy were close by.
I was lost in a pleasent dream while all of this waas going on. I was an accomplished apprentice mage, almost ready to test for my journyman rank with a strong sixth sense, the tree was uncomfortable and the ground wet, but still I slept like a log.
Rose stood up slowly, and pulled out her knives. She caught a glimpse of a demonian through the darkness, and threw a knife at him. It cut silently threw the air, and soon enough stabbed the demonian in the heart. She looked at Kiltheron sleeping against a tree, and decided it would be best not to wake him.
A dweomer I'd set to detect any deaths actually did awake me. Jumping to my feet, staff in hand, I lit the tip of it, looking around to make sure Rose was safe.
Rose looked behind her to see that Kiltheron was awake. She ran over to the dead demonian and recieved her wooden knife. Then, just as quick she ran back over to Kiltheron.
"Do think there are more of them?" she asked him.
"Maybe." I said, dousing the ligght now that I saw she was okay. I focused on a simple detection spell. The only visible effect was what seemed to be a wind that ran out in all directions from my location. After extending it to the limits of my control, I ended the spell, saying "Not within a good 7 miles of here."
"Good....", Rose replied. "Now maybe I can get some sleep...."
Rose sat back down, but this time did not try to sleep. She had too much on her mind to sleep.
I too, couldn't sleep, though for different reasons. Family custom dictated that I go inform my parents of Laeric's death, a visit I knew would be unpleasent. Besides, protecting Rose was more important and she might not want to make the trip south. I resolved to bring the matter up in the morning.
