"Team" villains. No poke Cops?

Random thought. Anyone else find it odd there are no like pokemon "cops" or dedicated fighting force to stop all the teams (gangs) from pursuing world domination and all that jazz?

Why is it always up to you, the random traveling, inexperienced 10yr old, to beat out an entire criminal organization? Why doesn't nurse joy keep their pokemon instead of healing them and giving them back so they can continue to harass you?

kind of along the lines of gun control.. there should be Pokemon control lol...

Also they're adults. They could just beat you up and take your pokemon instead of fleeing when you defeat them.

I find it strange too how the police force is so lacking in the Pokemon world. They DO exist, Looker is an Interpol agent and there's been a few cop NPCs to battle in some of the games, but you think that the governments of the regions would finally get their **** together and make a solid police force or something after villain teams doing **** several times. Stranger still is that there's a movie series in PokeStar Studios you can film called Full Metal Cop where the player plays a thief who is routinely stopped by a police officer called Mecha Cop (played by Brycen). Clearly the idea of cops stopping crime is an idea that they're all aware of.

Though if the police handle the villain team fine without the player, you sorta lose nearly half of standard Pokemon story formula so....

Aside from being a generic and convienent plot device there aren't really any governments in Pokemon to speak of, unless you count the Gym Leaders and Pokemon League of each region. I've never seen a mayor in Pokemon, let alone a govenor, matriarch, president, dictator or other traditional government leader. If we don't even have a mayor for Lumiose City how are we suppost to expect there to be an army or anything higher than a police force? Interpol itself may be more of a private organization than a collaberation of elite officers funded by the governments of the world.

And as for the restriction of Pokemon... I dunno if that's possible, much less feasible. Pokeballs can be made from Apricorns, so even if they stopped Pokeball production tomorrow it would always be possible to get Pokeballs to catch Pokemon with, and Pokemon can still be tamed and befriended without Pokeballs, as people have been living aside Pokemon without them for thousands of years. This doesn't even begin to go into trading Pokemon, or giving Pokemon away to people, or what to do with confiscated Pokemon. Regions don't even have governments so how are they supposed to muster up the resources to regulate Pokemon ownership? It's also haphazard given that you really NEED a Pokemon to go outside, as you can get attacked by wild Pokemon virtually everywhere. There's a reason kids are lent a Pokemon if they want to travel anywhere past their own town; even a small Pokemon can seriously hurt a person.

The pokecops seem to be very incompetent. It goes well with the lack of government the pokemon world seems to show.

Why do you need cops when a ten year old boy can take down organized crime? The cops are probably dealing with much bigger stuff.

I honestly fail to see how trying to end/rule the world with the power of legendary Pokemon doesn't count as much bigger stuff. No less than 5 times have major villains attempted to summon forbidden creatures and almost succeed in executing their evil plans, and at least two of those plans involve the end of all life as we know it. Though to be fair there's no way a bunch of cops could have stopped them. In Unova not even the Champion and the Elite Four succeed. You'd need a dedicated team of extremely powerful Pokemon trainers to even attempt to stop these guys, which is presumably why the player character and occasionally your friends and rivals are the only ones who succeed in stopping them. Though you really have to wonder why the Pokemon League staff DON'T get involved in games where they just leave saving the world to you. Diantha could have REALLY helped you there when Lysandre got within 2 inches of murdering everything.

Plot convenience. Game developers don't want to give the player a reason to think he/she isn't the solution to the world's problems.

If you think from a game development perspective, it's what makes sense.

If you try to compare it to real-world situations, rarely will anything in a Pokemon game make sense.

You're better off accepting the fantasy for what it is and treat the game like what it is. A game.

Well there's another great idea to add if they ever willing to put together a real Pokemon MMO... have some sort of Militia faction or police force you can join up with.
