Saphira jumped out of the passage way, only to find Alpha and a dragon engaged in battle. Cassie stood not far from them, lightning clenched in her hands. Before Saphira knew what had happened, there was a bright flash, followed by the roar of thunder. The cave shook, causing her to loose her balence. Saphira scrambled to her feet when Eclipse came closer.

Dagger-like peices of ice formed in her hand, sharp enough to peirce through even the strongest metals. She threw them at the black Dragon relentlessly. She wasn't going to let the person who had saved her from Chaos be injured if she could help it. And then there was Cassie... Could them combine their powers?

Eclipse roared in pain and rage as the ice spears tore at her flesh, her mouth, her eyes. In return, she loosed the blak lightning again, straight at the girl who had ran off and Cassie. I hissed at this, a sharp intake of breath as I saw the target. Before I knew what was happening, I was running for the two, then skidding to a stop in front of them, letting the lightning strike me instead.

Agony did not even do justice to what I felt. My mind was ripped apart by the blinding, all-consuming pain. It felt as though I was being dismembered, and I couldn't even scream for help. It had stopped, but I did not know, I was delerious from the attack. I collapsed to the floor, my vital functions so slow as to be undetectable.

"My work is done." Eclipse said, then vanished.

"No." Before she knew what she was doing, Cassie had gone to Alpha's side. It wasn't real, it wasn't true. But in her heart, she knew that it was. And he had intercepted the attack to save them.... "No," was all she could manage to say. Maybe, if she could have just thrown the bolt sooner...

But it was too late to think about that. Too late for them to do anything about it, anything at all. Too late. "No," she said weakly. She clutched the bolt that was still burning in her palm convulsively, a teardrop forming at the corner of her eye.

My eyes snapped open and I reached up, grasping Cassie's shirt. Pulling her close to me, I coughed a little and said, "Cassie, if... If I die..." I broke off, coughing again and fully expecting to be dead before the day was out, my voice reflecting my mortality. I continued in a harsh whisper, "Believe. I don't care in what. Just believe. That will keep you safe." I released her and collapsed into a coma, protecting my mind from the injuries my body had sustained.

"Believe?" she asked in a frightened whisper, worried by how weak his voice sounded. "But... how? In what? What will that keep me safe from?" He didn't answer, and Cassie saw that he had gone into a coma. "But you won't die," she said. "You won't die!" These last words echoed in the walls of the cavern, words Cassie herself didn't have faith in. At a loss for what to do, she buried her face in her hands.

Deep within my own mind, I dreamt of home. Of the peaceful mountains where I spent my days in meditation, where I honed my combat skills. I dreamt of Serina, my beautiful Serina, half-angel and half-vampire, of the way she smiled at me and the days and nights we spent in passion and love. I dreamt of our home on Hook Coast, wrapped in winter for much of the year. I then knew why I had had to do what I did, why I had darted in front of Eclipse's fury. It was not just my life, or Serina's that was precious. All of it was, and I would willingly die to save those two that I had just met. Looking over the worlds of my home, I smiled. Perhaps I would be home soon.

"I wish you a peaceful passing, friend," Cassie whispered. Friend. The word was unfamiliar on her lips. She turned to Saphira. "Come, let's get out of here. There has been too much pain in these caverns." And there had been. Saphira's pain, when Chaos had taken over her mind. Jasper's pain, when he had almost been forced to kill her. Eclipse's pain, for the person she was no longer. Cassie's pain, which no one would ever understand. And now Alpha's pain, the pain that had taken him from this world. She could only hope that he was in a better place now. She walked towards the passageway out of the lair, wondering if Saphira would follow.

Rings of greenish light began to surround me, filling the cavern and all in it. Magic, though wielded unconciously. That, I knew, was dangerous, though I couldn't stop. A layer of immense pain seperated my mind and my body, my actions. With a flash, I dissapeared, not knowing what had happened, if any others had been carried with me. I reappeared in my old bed in Hook Coast.

Suddenly, a flash of green light illuminated the cavern, reducing the anti-light that had been there before. "What's going on?" cried Cassie, but before she knew what was happening, the cavern, Saphira, and the eerie light vanished, to be replaced by an unfamiliar room, a bedroom by the looks of it. There, on the bed, she saw someone she'd thought she'd never see again. "Alpha!" she exclaimed, happy to see someone she knew even though she wasn't sure how she could see him. "Wh...what's going on?"

"My husband is home?" called a female voice, worried and perhaps a little frail. The figure that came up the stairs matched the voice, an angelic woman with two great white wings spreading from her back and silvery-white hair falling down her back. She looked a trifle emaciated and lines of worry crisscrossed her face. Bags lay under her misty grey eyes. She smiled to see my form on the bed, though I could not respond.

She said to Cassie, "He has been gone for so long. I have not seen him for half a decade now, only hearing the occasional rumor. I have missed him so. Was it you that brought him?" She smiled again, revealing delicate fangs and walked over to the bed, stroaking some of my hair and pushing hit off of my face as she asked, "What has happened to him?"

"He... he was hit by an attack by Eclipse. It's a long story, and I don't really understand it all myself. I'm not even sure how we got here." She looked over at Alpha, concern in her eyes. "I really hope he'll be alright," she said in a hushed voice. "He took the blow to save us. Saphira and I." She turned her gaze to the ground guiltily, unable to meet the woman's eyes.

"He will recover," she said softly. "With a little aid. He has been through worse, my dear child." She continued stroking my hair and said, "Though I heal rathern differently than he. I need a conduit for the pain of the injuries, and I am afraid I am too frail to take it all upon myself at the moment. Will you assist me?"

"Of course," said Cassie, looking up at last. "He saved my life, and I'll gladly help save his. What can I do to assist you?" She scanned the room around them, as though the answer would be printed there somewhere. What could she do to help? She cast another worried glance at Alpha, wondering how much longer they had.

"I would ask that you channel some of his pain into yourself," she said with another sad smile. "That will allow his mind to return to his body. The pain keeps them seperate." she held out her hand, placing one on my own forehead.

OOC: I'm a little lost, and I haven't seen nor' spoken to saphira in a few days... I'm hoping she's doing well... Well, Jake do you have any ideas on how to reinsert myself in the plot?

"Anything," said Cassie, taking her hand without hesitation. She'd do anything to save Alpha, anything. After all, he had saved her life. A burning, blinding pain flowed into her through the woman's hand, pain beyond imagining, pain that made her want to scream and roll on the floor. But she knew it was nothing compared to what Alpha had been feeling before, and knowing that she had lessened it for him made her feel better. It gave her courage, and the will to finish the job. She allowed more of the pain to be channeled into herself, unafraid of the results.

I groaned, the first sound I had made since my words. Exhausted, Serina let go of Cassie's hand and of me, whispering, "It is done." My eyelids fluttered open, the room coming into a hazy focus with two indistinct figures.

Instantly, the pain evaporated, and Cassie was free to think and move again. "Alpha," she called softly, watching him concernedly. "Alpha, are you alright?" She continued to watch him, waiting for him to stir.

"Hello Cassie," I said with a soft smile, finally recognizing the two figures by my bedside. "Hello, Serina. You look emaciated. Have you had enough to eat?" She shook her head. I smiled and said, "Give me a few moments. would you like to return home, Cassie?"

"Home?" Cassie turned away. "Nowhere is home," she said. "I've never belonged anywhere, and never will. So send me wherever you want, it's all the same to me." The uncomfortable thing about this statement was that it was entirely true. She gazed absently out of a window, lost in thought.
