We have all battled it out in The Mall arguing over two different foods for weeks and weeks now. It's time to bring those brains and arguments to the General Entertainment section and adapt it for music.

Introducing: THE AXE FIGHT. Every week (or so, that's why I'm calling them chords instead of weeks) we'll put two bands, artists, etc against each other (or sometimes more, depending on the scenario!) just to see who or what will really come out on top.

    The first chord...

The Beatles... or The Rolling Stones?

    Let the axe fight begin!!

Also, if you have any ideas for future chords, PM them to me. As I said before, it could be band vs band, artist vs artist, song vs song, or even what is the best album by X artist/band, stuff like that. It doesn't have to be limited to two choices.

rolling stones ez. black beatles > the beatles entire discography

excellent thread idea. I'm more into the Stones personally. the feel their music has is completely unmatchable imo especially as they went on into the late 60s-early 70s with Let It Bleed & Exile On Main St. etc. I don't even know how to describe it. it's the fuckin Stones. that's it. and their earlier psych pop / mod stuff was also really fucking good at times (my favorite album of theirs is Between the Buttons on some days). "Ruby Tuesday" is one of the best songs of all time. so is "Rocks Off," "Gimme Shelter," "Sympathy for the Devil," "Paint It, Black," "She Smiled Sweetly..." etc.

for the most part I've never been able to get too much into The Beatles outside of Rubber Soul which is a marvelous album. other than that I can recognize what they're doing but have a hard time connecting to most of it. granted, I'd never say they're bad. it's just not really for me. some choice cuts (for me) include "Tomorrow Never Knows," "Norwegian Wood," "A Day in the Life," "Rain," "Strawberry Fields Forever," and "In My Life." among others.

I really, really, really want to say the Rolling Stones just because I find them more interesting in general. I like a handful of their songs but Mick's voice and I never clicked. I felt the same way about the Beatles until I was like, 20 tho. So there's hope.

I'll give this one to The Beatles. I've gone through at least 5 or 6 periods over the last few months where I've binged them. I think my favorite album is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

I like a few Beatles songs a lot ("Back in the USSR" and "Help" being my faves by far), but I've never really 'got' them in the way that their superfans do. I agree with Matt in that I can respect and admire all that The Beatles have done and influenced, but I've never felt as much of a connection to their music (which gives my brother a heart attack every time I mention this to him)!

Although I'm also not a massive fan of the Stones, their music on the whole feels a lot more vibrant and exciting to listen to. "Sympathy for the Devil" is one of my favourite songs of all time; "Gimme Shelter", "Brown Sugar" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are all kinds of great. Yeah, they've been on autopilot for well over half their lifetimes, but so has The Simpsons, and that's still the best TV show of all time thanks to the quality of its good years.

    Easy choice.

The Rolling Stones rock harder, faster, louder than the Beatles and they weren't broken up by some kind of horrid Yoko/Lennon nekkid-peepee-vajeen album with screetchy and scratchy 'vocals'.

    Trust me. Mick Jagger rocks.

    Jumpin' Jack Flash
    Sympathy for the Devil
    Start Me Up
    Paint it Black
    Gimme Shelter
    I Can't Get No Satisfaction
    Can't you Hear me Knocking?

Damn, them some solid gold hits right there, boy I tell you hwat.
