I mean, I certainly appreciate that it brought us our move tutors, and gave us a good egg-hatching location complete with nearby Day Care. But did I enjoy it? No, not particularly. Egg-hatching isn't a particularly engaging activity (and even with the 6th-gen conveniences, it's still more tedious than enjoyable), and the Battle Maison can easily be replaced by online battles--and those two things are the only activities you can participate in at the Battle Resort.
The Battle Resort serves as a sort of "preparation hub" for competitive play, with the Day Care, tutors, and quick access to the Battle Maison (aka "battle practice"), but it doesn't fill the void left by the exclusion of the Battle Frontier. The only reason why I'm at the Resort so often in-game is because I had to take up competitive play to give myself something else to do with the games since the Resort doesn't offer any new features or facilities, which means I have to be there to hatch a lot of Eggs.
