In the very first chapter, Houndoom isn't capilised.

I guess you're right. I did hear Val say that Pokemon names can be capitalised or uncapitalised, but maybe for consistency, I'll just capitalise every name then.

The rules go as such:

If you're of the camp that believes everything should be capitalized, capitalize everything.

If you're not of the camp that believes everything should be capitalized, capitalize only if it's a proper noun (i.e., name of an individual) or the beginning of a sentence.

There's no mixing. Ergo, if you don't capitalize in one instance and do everywhere else, it's an error. Likewise, if you don't generally capitalize but do for a word that's serving as a common noun, it's also an error.
