I cannot stress enough the importance of EV training. If you want to be even half-decent at battling, you're going to have to know how to do this. It's quite simple once you get the hang of it since there's things like Pokerus and the Battle Tower's Power Items which really speed up the process. What's really complicated and boring is IV breeding due to... I just realized I was about to have a geek-out. XD

Oh. Heh, that wouldn't bother me. I like randomness (even Internet memes) both IRL and online. In fact, one of my RL friends is incredibly random.
