A lot of people know french, even my dad knows it, I was pretty surprised by that. XD

But I would assume English is the easiest language, we only have 26 letters in the alphabet, while other languages have like... more. XD;;
Actually English is the hardest language to learn supposedly.

Oh really? I guess I wouldn't know, since english was my first language. D:

But, I mean I guess that's true, since my parents have been in Australia for like... 30 years or something, and they still don't know much english. :\

to be honest, there are a lot of harder languages, like chanese, japanese, all that stuff, I mean, I speak perfect english, and it's not even my first language XD

Chinese is a biznotch to learn. Seriously.

yeah especially cause the words mean different things depending on the tone you speak them on, and don't even get me started on written language, try conjugating those things, you'll never make it XD

English is the most awesome language in the world >:<
EVERYONE SHOULD LEARN ENGLISH OR SUFFER!

But really, did you know that French is the world's official language? XD
WHAT?! I didn't! I thought English was, holy crap! I don't like French, it sounds weird XD

French is a very pretty language, IMO, but verb conjugation is killer. *__* They have so many tenses for everything, and so many exceptions that the basic conjugation rules become difficult to follow.

Call me weird but I find French verb conjugating fun. ._.;

English words and letters are derived from other languages though, like latin and all that.

So English wouldn't really be the official language.
LOTS of languages are derived from Latin. XD Like German and French and Spanish =P So I guess those can't be official either, by your standards XD

So what IS the official language? I'm so confused now. D:

No, it isn't.

Of the various international organizations that use French as an official, administrative, or working language, only two of them exclusively use French. The rest use it alongside other languages, mostly English.

Actually, German has more in common with English than it does with French, Spanish, and the other Latin-derived languages.

Depends on where you come from really.

English is world wide, because majority of the people speak it, or people have been forced to learn it, because all the good jobs are in english speaking countries.

The official language of the world is French.
It has been for over 300 years.

@Jack: I don't count Wikipedia as a 'valid source'

yeah, I applied to japanese, everything was going smoothly, until the kanji kicked in, they're a lot and they're hard, and they're necessary o.o

Lies, German and English are Germanic languages.
English just /borrows/ stuff from Latin, but most of the original words were of Germanic origin.

French, Spanish, etc. are Romantic languages <3

ROFL@borrowed.

Ohhhh, my teachers all told me everything came from Latin. *shrugs* I decided to go with them, because they're usually right. XD Especially if they ALL say something is right. Then again, it is Maine... we don't know a whole lot about the rest of the world XDXD

We could argue about this all night x.x So let's change the subject! XD

My favorite language to speak is Spanish, because it's fun to talk in. The way the sounds flow together is just so... cool. It's still really hard for me to understand it if someone is speaking it too quickly though. D=

That's true, and then the argument would progress to whether or not Wikipedia is a valid source of information. After about half an hour of bickering about that, a genius will more than likely link us to a Wikipedia article which states that Wikipedia is indeed a valid source of information. Once that happens, the thread will die, only to be posted in a day later by someone who asks what Wikipedia is and then the cycle shall continue. Joking, of course.

My favourite language to speak is English. Why? Because I'm pretty well-read when it comes to English, something I don't share in common with other languages I speak. French and Irish are okay, but my French teacher has made me dislike French and Irish is Irish, two valid reasons as to why the two of them don't outrank English when it comes to my favourite languages.
