Someones name does not tell ones maturity. And, IMO, to use that logic is the very definition of immaturity. Its as if to say you're better than them cuz you don't have any numbers in your name? Maybe their names have sentimental value to them >.>

I used to be akaxrai. XD; I couldn't even take myself seriously when I was akaxrai (Oh, that name still haunts me now... D:).

Although, I do understand what you're saying, Xairmo. :>

I agree X, one's maturity shouldn't be measured by their name.
What if I changed my name to BeachMan, I'll be more mature? 8D
I'm BeachBoy, because the B's match. And TideTeen is TT, and that's just too different I guess... and yuck BeachMan sounds like some pedo/weird hero.

Anyways, I wont just welcome someone because they have a good name, there's nothing wrong with welcoming people based on their name, but that's just you all. Welcome whom you wish. These days, I avoid welcoming people that have bad grammar and seem to be the type of member that wouldn't be around long. (aka advertising types) I enjoy meeting mature people, I enjoy helping out immature people (to an extent), and I welcome a variety of people. ;D

And I clean my PM box every other day, no one has flooded my messages as of yet. xD

Yeah I agree. Thats actually stereotyping something im not very fond of. And you might have misunderstood me, all I said was that I also liked meeting new mature people. I never said people were immature because of their username. xD

I've only gone in NU a couple times, but never that often, only because I can never think of what to say without it sounding the same as what I said for someone else. :/ I mean, it's nice to welcome new users, and I do do it sometimes, but... sometimes it's hard welcoming them without sounding generic.

That was my problem when I worked in NU/W (yeah, I did -- I tend to forget it most days, tbh 8D;;). I'd feel bad if I didn't greet everyone, so I did with very few exceptions. If it was a generic hello message, it was really hard to give them something halfway original in return. >_<;; It was nice when they left me something unique to reply to.

I only reply to threads there these days with people I halfway recognize. Working in NU/W those few months really wore me down when it comes to welcomes.

I agree on some points. Names really shouldn't be held as noobish things. But on PC, it seems to make more sense to me that people come to the conclusion, I suppose?

Numbers can hold sentimental value -- for example, birthdays, important dates, lucky numbers, ect. It might be a necessity, too, especially on much larger sites on PC, like e-mails, LJs, ect.
However, on PC, there isn't that many mature members that I see that have numbers in their names. It might be me being secluded, but... it's just an observation of mine. ._.; I think there isn't because either they can get the name they want the first time, or they use other characters (~, _, and ., mainly) to get that name. And, personally, I'd rather have a symbol than a number. Symbols look nicer. ._.; Or they might have the number = noob thought...

BeachMan sounds like some pedo/weird hero.

HAHA. XD; I laughed at that for some reason~

Lucky you. D: I've gotten a bunch of people requesting for themes (when I clearly said I wasn't taking requests), a few people asking to be friends (when I've never seen them before in my life), and someone asked me to join their hack team... I've never hacked in my life.

How do these people find me? ;;

If this was directed at me, I didn't mean for it to come out that way. D:
I don't judge on there maturity level through names, it's more like a first impression to me.

I only post in newbie threads if I already know the person or if they have an interesting introduction post. But the title has to be decent for me to actually READ the post, so... yeah. :\ I can't greet everyone because otherwise I don't mean it and that's not fair. XD

edit: jeez I'm slow at posting. I also tend to think people with numbers in their names are a little noobier than others. D: I know some numbers are sentimental and have real meaning, but I sometimes just can't shake that disposition. D8 I have a lot of friends who commonly have numbers in their names though so it's not like I don't know any better... I just can't help it.

I only used numbers in my username if the username I really wanted was taken. Either that... or I'd just find a new numberless username to use instead.

Numbers can hold sentimental value, I agree with that. I had a bunch of old usernames at random places that had stuff like my birth year, birthday, the age I was when I joined that site, etc. But, over time, I just... the numbers... they just bothered me, and I'm not sure why either, but I honestly tend to think that names with numbers in them are a little nooby.

Then, there are the names that are only numbers... :D

I don't really agree with what people were saying about the numbers thing...

If a member signed up with numbers in their username, but yet made long... well... gramicatized or whatever posts, I would ignore the number part of their username... but because numbers are supposedly "different", as are fully capitalized usernames -coughminecough-, they're judged as people that just want to spam... though a username such as "bnafsihunfiashfasdhp9qwer" would obviously be a n00b... because... yeah.

THOUGH, I am glad I haven't used numbers in my usernames (besides one, but that wasn't my fault.)

I see where you're coming from, Nica.

I can usually take someone with numbers in a username a lot more seriously if their sentences are well-structured and they actually know what punctuation is. D:

Mind you, this pretty much goes for anyone. I'm a massive grammar freak, so whenever I see someone post something that's just.... yuck, I'm so compelled to quote them, reply, and correct their mistakes. :/

When I first joined the ranks of the internet, I used 11 in my usernames a lot since it was my age. XD; But otherwise I've stayed away from numbers. If my normal usernames are fully taken, I refuse to add numbers on. I'll always just come up with something new. D: Luckily I have a decent pool of usernames to choose from, so I don't run out too often. I did when I had to pick a Skype name recently though. x_X

omg, that reminds me of how I used to check my friends work at school and correct it... I liked their work to be perfect even if mine wasn't. XD

Online though... I don't care that much about wanting to fix what others say... except sometimes Rene... that guy can be hilarious. XD;;

I correct my IRL friends' MSN posts whenever they talk to me, like a cool kid does. :D I don't do that to PC friends or other online friends, 'cause they'd just get mad at me~

I usually have the same usernames for everything, usually either "Scarlet Lynn," "scarlynn," or "akaxrai," although I'm trying to stay as far away from the third one as much as possible. XD;

Oh, yeah... I'd try to correct my friends IRL on MSN, BUT, I'm sure they think I'm strange anyway for using a capital for "i" ect. XD

I use lower case alot on MSN now though so I guess I'm not so better than them.

It's fun to correct my RL friend's messages in MSN. Because they get annoyed so easily. Though I hate it when they type like dis, and their messages are filled with 2's and u's >.> Sometimes, it takes me about five minutes to understand what they're trying to say.

I only type in lower case when I get too lazy to press that shift button :\

lol I know!
That can be rather annoying.
Lazy Macy! >O

I struggle to understand my friends sometimes too... so if they say something random (just to make sure it's to me...) I IM back "whut", which gives them the choice to either reply and explain or just ignore me. I do that not just with IRL people though.

Caps lock > shift.

Not my fault if I'm lazy :x

Oh, wow. The same thing happens with me >.> I just go, "whut?" or "What in the world are you talking about?" then they go "never mind" in frustration, or attempt to explain it, but then end up going "never mind" in frustration anyway.

But when I type in capslock, unless I put a smilie on, my friends always think that I'm shouting at them.
