our college only blocks porno sites and music download sites XD but youtube?, why did they block that?, youtube is used a lot in class projects, even by teachers here XD

Wut's the current topic?

off-topic: I'm in the middle of a Pokemanz battle and doing pretty well :)

I'm guessing wiki and other sites and if your school college bans or accepts it XD

My school basically blocks everything. There's very few sites you can access. Sometimes, even the teachers give us sites to "study" from that end up being blocked.

However, don't think we don't find out way around things; Ultra Surf. Amazing program that literally lets you access any site you desire. Just keep it on the DL, and do not save it to your student drive; that would be disastrous.

My school is kind of trying not to block EVERYTHING, I think last year they got some kind of group of students together to figure out what sites to block [like MySpace and Facebook] and what sites to keep up [like Wikipedia], because before we had Bess, which just blocked everything that fell under a certain category ^^; We all hated seeing that freaking dog XD

School has Websense. Blocks EVERYTHING, even all my bypass sites.

Damn, they're good.

Our school has a ton of computers :/

We don't have any bans. We're just expected not to go to any social, non-work related websites.
Of course, we can sneak on when the monitors are gone, but you could get kicked out :3

No one really cares, though, when no projects or stuff is due.

My school too has many computers. But the problem is we are only allowed to access one site which is an interactive thing made by our school. The site sucks, all we can do is post articles and stuff like that. We don't care about that 'cause we only have 1 hour class in a week. During that time, instead of going to computer class we do something else with the permission of our principal. Anyway nowadays, when I reach home, the first thing I will do is login to PC!!

We have to do computer projects, but we do it with our computer only not with the schools.

lol owned.

We're generally allowed to access most sites, and each class has enough computers.

It's strange how like, our school doesn't know what exactly to block though, because they'd block lj and not blogspot... which is basically the same thing just less popular.

-at skewl in PC nao oh I'm sooo cool-

That's where the citations come in handy. If you need to confirm information in a Wiki article, just scroll down to the bottom and click the links given. Most articles do have them.

It's just that people tend to take the Wiki article at face value without corroborating the information given in the article with other sources. Again, that's why they have citations; you're supposed to check them to see if the Wiki article really is accurate.

Really though, you shouldn't be getting references online anyway unless it's in the form of an e-book or an electronic journal. The internet is too general and insufficient for actual quality research.

Ever since I've started Uni I haven't once used an online reference. I hated searching online anyway, it was always a bother.

Besides, some subjects highly advise against the use of online references anway, haha.

The internet really does suck at genuine, proper information sadly enough...

The most I use it for... Is to get book references from wikipedia, then search through them for my information... Otherwise... Who knows, it could be the work of some one who's done a PH. D, or someone thats just finishing primary..

I use the internet for absolutely everything, I never look in books for information at school in assignments or anything! Sometimes it lacks information, but if you search hard enough you should find SOMETHING at least!

Some internet sources are unreliable though and they might not tell you where the info is from or if it's true or not.

I don't know what i'd do without the internet to look up things. I never look in books for information, it's just easier this way to find exactly what your looking for.

Also, you can make sure that your information is genuine and proper by simply crosschecking it with other sources. Although i guess you still can't be sure :\

On a related topic, i have over 7 peices of homework due for tommorow, 6 of which are coursework (mostly overdue from last year). And i'm pretty sure that i'm not going to get that many, if any done today. -_-
Does anyone else find it incredibly hard to just, get on with ther work?

Procastination is your best friend. XD;

I always left my assignments or homework the day before they're suppose to be in. :\

I find it hard too just get down and do my work, most of the time I find a way to stall myself and then just get my mum to write the teacher a note saying I didn't do it, gives me another week or more to do it! I usually do my homework as soon as I get home though, so then I won't have to worry about running out of time and going to bed without it done.

Still haven't done any, the one i'm most likely to get done is my drama i suppose, but that is also the hardest! :(

I say that because:
1.
My Drama teacher is about the only one I respect.
2. She will most likely remove my testicles if i come into school having not done it.

Well then....#2 would set it for me, I think I would have done it about....5 weeks ago if that was the case!
