I never really got into Inuyasha. I only really ever watch anime online, and I only follow one anime at a time. I don't know how so many people can keep up with so many anime series at once. I mean I know I could do it, but it's a tad overwhelming @.@
Consider for a moment the sheer number of animated shows produced, aired, and distributed in Japan every year. Just going by the charts here, it's pretty obvious that keeping up with everything is indeed quite the overwhelming task:

  • Summer 2008: 25 TV series, 8 OVAs (+4 continuing)
  • Fall 2008: 48 TV series, 12 OVAs (+8 continuing)
  • Winter 2008/2009: 25 TV series, 10 OVAs (+5 continuing)
  • Spring 2009: 42 TV series, 16 OVAs (+8 continuing)
  • Summer 2009: 24 TV series, 10 OVAs (+6 continuing)
Personally, I just stopped giving a damn for the most part after fall '08; my interest had been slipping significantly long before then, though.

Is Gurren Lagann a good anime? Could never find websites that provide free episodes..
If there's one anime you absolutely must watch, Gurren Lagann would definitely have to be it. To hell with everything else.

It's pretty good. Like most Anime's, it has a lot of plot holes, but the characters are cool. Not to mention Yoko is hawt.

The problem with the people that can't get into anime is that they rarely look beyond what's on TV, having then to put up with mediocre series or most of that Shounen Jump crap, which are aimed at kids and retarded people~

That is very true. But, most of the people who don't just do not care. Like me. :3~

I laughed at the last part. X3 It made me happy. :3

Woo! 100th post! :3

First of all. I dun't have cable so I don't get to watch the "so-called SJ crap."

Secondly, most of my fanboy stuff has been moved to the Internet. It's just that I can't access a computer with enough time to post here AND watch anime at the same time. ;;

Finally, I SERIOUSLY WANT MORE TIME FOR THE FANDOM THINGS. TT^TT

Sorry for the rant. XD

I'm gonna come out right now and just go ahead and say it. I hate anime.

Go ahead, let the flaming commence.

Saying sorry in the exact same post as the rant kind of..cancels out the sorry. In my opinion. It's like going "I HOPE YOU DIE SORRY!" o.o; It's probably is just me though..D:

Meh, like and dislike what you want.

...why would there be any flaming? Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not as juvenile as you seem to believe, so I wont flame anyone for their opinions.

Regardless, I still think that everyone can like anime- even if it's just one series. It's like that for books, no? You may hate reading, but if you get attached to a story, you'll end up liking that book.

edit; this is also a critique at the media, since they only make a huge fuss out of childish and/or senseless-action anime, very rarely giving any spotlight to more "adult" series.

Not a big deal. Even though lots of us do like anime, not everyone does, or necessarily has to. I know many people who don't like anime. It doesn't mean they're weird or different. Everyone has likes and dislikes, and that's what keeps us all going.

Uh, that's not really it. I don't know, it's not just the fact that most of the anime you see openly advertised is "childish," I just see it all as childish. I know this isn't the case in storyline, but the fact that it's y'know...animated just throws me off. I know there's a difference in genres, and I understand why some people like it, but I prefer seeing things portrayed as happening to real people, rather than just animation =/

I think you're confusing PC with Gamefaqs or 4chan. Over here we don't go completely crazy when someone states their opinion.

...Just for the record, I didn't actually expect anyone to cuss me out for not liking anime. But dude, just take a look around the forum: it's evident that the majority of PC members are into anime. I say this not only based on the fact that there the "Japanese entertainment" section is filled primarily with threads about anime, but also the fact that roughly 4/5 themes here are based on some sort of anime, or a similar art style D:

I'll probably spend tonight looking for some free episodes to watch Gurren Lagann. I'll say it I find it's good or not. :P

Yoko is hot. xD

Well, "Japanese Entertainment" is supposed to be filled with anime threads. :B It's the most common form of Japanese media, at least in the Ocident, so that's expected.
About the themes, well, take Mage, the member above, as an example- he said he never got into anime, yet his avatar features Saber from Fate/Stay Night. Liking Japanese-styled art has nothing to do with liking anime itself. My theme itself is based on a character from a Sound Novel (which -is- getting an anime soon, but that's beyond the point!).

So, just don't classify us all as the usual anime-fan stereotype. While there are certainly some of those around here, they're not all of us. :3

Yoko is hot. xD

PROTIP about Gurren Lagann: Yoko sucks. Nia's where it really is.

But Yoko's so hot D= *was mesmerized by the Yoko theme BLACK ROCK SHOOTER had at some point* Mm, I haven't watched enough Gurren Lagann, so I can't say anything yet XD

And I agree with Superfairy on this one~ I love Japanese-styled art, but it doesn't particularly mean I'm an anime otaku. Now, if you were to call me a VIDEO GAME otaku, I'd have to agree with you

So, yeah. Just 'cause we have a beautiful theme from an anime doesn't mean we like the anime or like anime in particular. One might have that sort of theme because they decided to Google random images, found what is now the render and their theme, and liked it so much they chose to use it in a request or make their own theme out of it.

I do remember asking a couple people what series the renders come from, and some reply they just found them and don't know what series they're from, if they're from a series at all.

But I don't want to argue, so... ^^'

You know what the problem with the anime industry is? It makes crap. Unbelievable, unremarkable crap.

Many of the major studios only got to where they are today through major cost-cutting and excessive pandering to the fringe audiences that promise reliable, if small, financial returns. The studios only get 15% of the money paid by sponsors to produce an anime, with the rest ending up in the hands of advertisers and broadcasters. Much of the grunt work is actually performed by domestic subcontractors and foreign labor in order for the production companies to save money. In the end, however, even with all their cost-cutting and their focus on small but proven audiences, the companies still lose money on every episode they animate (actual costs incurred per episode can range from US$100,000 to US$130,000), and they can't even afford to give their employees decent wages; 25% of all people in the Japanese animation industry only make about US$10,000 a year, if you can believe that. Finally, many of the final products that make it to the air are simply unsuitable for any real mainstream consumption; of course, the ravenous hordes of otaku will latch onto them like the leeches that they are, but they're only a very tiny fraction of the overall consumer base.
