It's really, really irritating. I slammed the phone down on my friend from Kentucky once because she wouldn't stop laughing when I was talking.

In retrospect, I should have put the phone down on the counter and left her there, so she paid for more international call.
 
its just cause we americans arent used to it.

its funny to us! my friend also gets irratated, but we dont do it obssevily. we do it every now again when she sais a certain words.
 
I get that. In Canada, and I'm from England, it's always "Oh my god I love how you say that! Say it again!"

But the worst part is when they try and copy it, they either sound like the Queen (I'm from Yorkshire, they can't tell the difference) or a Scottish person.

And they always say I'm British. Ugh. I'M ENGLISH AND PROUD, DON'T GROUP ME WITH SCOTLAND etc.

I always say I'm English too. There's no such thing as a "British" accent =< (Scotland and Wales don't sound British).

Ah yes, one friend can't tell the difference between me (westcountry) and my best friend (Mancunian o.o)
 
I think it sounds kinda nice. Very different.;)

I know, Leeds (West Yorkshire) does NOT sound like the Queen!

It really annoys me.
 
By my standards brittish accents are awsome! there so cool, when i think of england or britain or whatev i always think of harry potter. ;)

ive always wished i could try a british accent.

How long have you been in the United States, anyway? Just give it some time, and you may eventually lose that accent.

As for who I associate the British with, the Special Air Service is what comes to mind first. Who needs wizards when you have the best special forces in the world?
 
I've never really thought of myself as having an accent. But I suppose if I went to Australia, Canada, or Britain they'd probably comment on my accent. But I'd probably say something like "What're you talkin' about, you're all the ones with accents." And then I'd probably get beaten up.

EDIT: I have quite a typical American mindset: Everything in America is right, normal, and original. Even though our entire culture and existence is borrowed cultures of the world.

The only read difference between American and Canadian English is that Canadians supposedly say 'au' sounds like 'u' but it's hard to really notice the difference. :\
