TES:IV Oblivion is (undoubtedly) the best game ever made ever. What are everyone's thoughts of Bethesda's upcoming?

I'm not sure about the engine change... but from the shot and vids I've seen it does look sweet and I'm very sure will be the number 2 game of all time ;).

Duel wield in this one too! Awesome.

The Nords have always been a kind of 'beginners' race I've always thought but have also been one of my favourites. In their homeland of Skyrim I'm expecting uber-Viking awesomeness. It's going to be epic, but will it be 'better' than Oblivion? I'm still playing Oblivion now and discovering new things all the time. I've got hundreds and hundreds of hours and there's still enough to keep me entertained. I can't say I've had that from many games.

Will Skyrim live up to this? It's already been announced that the map is smaller which may suggest there's going to be major DLC at some point... but I remember when I first started playing Oblivion and you could walk in a straight line for about a month real-time and not reach the edge of the map. That's slightly exaggerated but you get the gist.

    So Skyrim - thoughts?

I'm so damned excited for this game! The more I see about it, the more I can't contain myself. I heard the opening music. Dear gods, it rocked my soul.

I just hope Bethesda doesn't leave in all the bugs and **** like they always do. *sigh*

I watch the trailer atleast ten times a day.

And listen to the harry partridge video about it even more.

I'm pumped for this game. It needs to come out faster...

I had more fun with Fallout 3.

On subject, the game looks awesome and I will be buying this game for PC day one :D. Hopefully steam will have it so I can have it all pre-loaded and ready for play on day 1 like I did with Fallout: New Vegas (Which was a huge letdown from 3).

That trailer, man. If this doesn't shape up to be RPG of the year, I don't know what kind of world we live in. Ironically I'm A LOT more excited to see what modders can come up with after release.

Super Smash Brothers 64, Melee and/or Brawl, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Pokemon Sapphire and Emerald Versions, and (possibly) Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would like to contest that "best game ever" title.

I haven't played an Elder Scrolls game before, but The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sure looks interesting judging from the trailers. My closest experience would probably be RuneScape. >_>

I love that map reference you mentioned...nothing like a game chock-full of exploration. :)

I think Skyrim sounds better as a name than the name of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's location, Skyloft. :\

The 11/11/11 (November 11, 2011) release date is pretty neat...as long as they don't sacrifice development just for a cool number arrangement. If unforeseen problems are encountered, the devs can always delay it and release it on 12/12/2012 (December 12, 2012) if needed.

Finally, someone on YouTube had an awesome comment about horse armor being used as a pre-order bonus for Skyrim. :cer_laugh: Anytime I think of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, horse armor is usually the first thing that resonates in my mind. -_- Well, that and the Criminal Scum/Imperial Guard song. :cer_boogie:

Fallout 3 was ok... But it finished. Like, the game finished! No infinite after-play when the story is over - that's it. I didn't think it felt like Bethesda put much into it and it was largely overhyped in the UK.

With regards to Morrowind - again it was a great game but it lacked detail which I think sets Oblivion apart from the rest of the series. The expansions (especially Bloodmoon)were sweet though but the rubbish sword (or any weapon for that matter) skill in the beginning is unjustified! It didn't make sense to start off with child-like abilities.

Fallout 3 allowed for post main quest play with Broken Steel. Though it's not like you can't save right before you finish the game and continue exploring the world and doing sidequests. All the fallout games had finite endings and 3 and New Vegas are no exceptions, at least until Broken Steel with FO3's case.

As for TES, I have both Oblivion and Morrowind but I've never much been able to get into them. Skyrim looks interesting but I'm not sure I'll pick it up day one, and I'm totally rolling dual shields. :p
