So we all know that the Pokedex records information about the Pokemon right, but what else does a Pokedex offer that the internet and encyclopedias can't (logically)? And why do the Pokedex entries make not a lot of sense? It's supposed to record information about the Pokemon?

Offers easy identification. Recalls an XKCD comic (#1425) for something similar:
[PokeCommunity.com] The function of a Pokedex

Records information about the specific Pokemon (height, weight, color, and maybe current behavior?). Submits that data for mass analysis (such as a range of heights). Tells you where to find a Pokemon that you have seen. Appears simple enough for even children to use well. Provides a fast warning for angry Pokemon (see: Gyarados).

Interesting that the Pokedex has blank entries for various Pokemon until you encounter and catch one, then it somehow knows all about the details on that particular mon. If it's only seen one, how does it know what the others are like, maybe those are different from that one? I know that's picking things apart a bit, but still.
