When the screech resounds in your ears, you still all movement. No further sound comes, so you begin your shuffle through the room once more. You find the room is small, only about ten by ten feet. Rotting wood and small miscellaneous items litter the floor and you kick them aside as you carefully prod the walls. You bark your shins on metal; feeling around you find the obstruction to be a child-sized bed. You gingerly clamber over it, only jumping slightly when a stuffed animal squishes beneath your hand. You resume your search by touch along the wall and you soon feel the frame of a door.
You see a shabby wooden door leading from the backyard into the house. It is slightly ajar, so you gently push it open. It leads to a narrow, rickety flight of stairs. You begin to ascend into the dim interior, using the fragile railing for guidance and balance. The staircase twists around sharp corners and you soon lose sense of direction. You climb for perhaps three stories before you find a doorway. The door itself has fallen into the hallway beyond, which is lined with six doors, three on each side. The end of the hallway cannot be seen. What now?
