I guess I was an ok student. I sometimes neglected my assignments, used rhetoric to obscure lack of content on my English papers. Music and friends were my life; I had a boyfriend, and argued with my parents.
It was difficult to get me to do anything; I did things for my own reason. I was rash and blunt, never thinking before charging into action.
I was an average highschooler.
Almost. There was one thing that separated me from everyone else.
I was a mutant.
No, seriously. I had scales down my back leading to a long tail tipped with a spade. I couldn't wear shoes, because my feet were scaled with black and too big. They were also digigrade, meaning I naturally stood on my toes, which were tipped with sharp claws that had to have plastic sheaths over them during school. My hands were mostly human (lucky, because obviously I needed to be able to hold a pencil), but they were also black scaled and clawed (ugh, more plastic sheaths!). Huge wings with membranes that fluctuated with the colors of the Aurora spanned from my back (which made it really hard to put on clothes, let me tell you.) And yes, I could fly! Basically I was part dragon.
Of course I had human characteristics too, such as my raven-black hair that flowed down to my lower back. I had normal skin in areas other than my limbs (my face and neck for example). My eyes seemed to be a mix of human and dragon- they were a lovely shade of violet (obviously weird for a human).
Strangely enough, I wasn't the only mutant person in my school. My boyfriend was also one. Not a dragon, though, but a white lion.
I had met him over the internet, actually, on a forum. His name was Byakuya. He moved to where I lived (which I will not disclose) when he was fifteen. Already we were in love, though a little cautious about each other until we met in real life. Oh, I would never forget when I actually looked into his amber eyes for the first time, though I was surprised he was telling the truth when he had told me over the internet that he was also a mutant.
He had black hair that was a tiny bit longer than mine was. His mane was on his shoulders and extended to his chest, and it was also black. His fur, though, was white. His feet were digigrade like mine were, and they also had claws that were sheathed with plastic. His hands were also mostly human, though covered in fur (and they were also tipped with claws.) Unlike me, who had normal skin along with my black scales, Byakuya's entire body was covered in silky, white fur. His eyes, as I said before, were deep amber. His tail was long and tipped with black fur that matched his mane.
My other friends were also half-animal. Their names were Moonlight and Darkmoon, and they were twins.
We were different, yes, but we were able to lead normal lives.
Almost.
